United And Vodafone End Shirt Sponsorship

Manchester United and Vodafone have agreed to end their shirt sponsorship, effective from the end of this current season (May 2006).

A joint statement reads: "Manchester United have agreed to end their shirt sponsorship. The Club believes that the shirt sponsorship market has greatly increased in recent years, while Vodafone wishes to build on its successful sponsorship of Manchester United in new, exciting areas.

Both Vodafone and Manchester United are keen to continue their successful relationship and the parties are exploring an ongoing sponsorship deal."

A statement from Manchester United confirmed: "The move sees both parties agreeing to pursue other sponsorship opportunities.

Manchester United believes this development presents an exciting chance to pursue a lucrative partnership with a new sponsor. Initial discussions with a number of world class companies, coupled with recent deals in the sport sponsorship market support that view.

Announcing the decision, Commercial Director Andy Anson said: ?Vodafone has been a fantastic partner for the Club since 2000. The impressive success of the launch of our MU Mobile joint venture in over 30 countries has been matched by the brand awareness generated by the high value relationship with Vodafone.

?The Manchester United shirt is the most iconic in sport. The Club feels that, in the current market, there is a genuine chance to attract significant additional investment.

"Initial soundings and discussions with a number of world class potential partners have been very encouraging and we are confident of securing a new deal in the coming months."

I dunno, but for some reason I see a huge Swoosh on there next year.

Whatever major corporation sponsors the team, its a good move on their part. The exposure that ManU gets, deserved or not, is quite impressive.
