Though at the time they were held, they were not formally recognized as the Games of the 1st Winter Olympiad. They were retroactively called the 1st Winter Olympics years later. The first Winter Olympics to be held expressly as Winter Olympics were the '28 Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it...
