Black Strip on Clemson - Florida State Jerseys

As I was watching the Clemson - Florida State football game on Monday night, I noticed something unusual to me. Just above the ACC logo patch on the right side of the jersey there is a small black strip on the jersey. This black strip could be found on both the Clemson and Florida State teams. Why is it there and what if anything does it stand for. I have also occasionally noticed this black strip on various NBA jerseys. Thanks for replying if you have an answer.

Boston College, too. Look just above the ugly new eagle head on the sleeve.

The black patches are being worn by all ACC member schools.

Weaver also said each of Virginia Tech's 21 athletic teams will wear a patch with the Virginia Tech logo and a ribbon this season. Each of the teams at the ACC's other 11 schools will wear a black bar on their uniforms.
