If they had just added a black outline, I'd probably have been okay with it.

But white/gold/black? Three outlines? Too much, and it diminishes the size of the logo. I think it minimizes the punch, as well, since it's busier.

That's what they did. It always had the white outline, and the gold one is just the helmet color showing through because the black outline is separate from the white. If you mean they should have just added the black outline right next to (i.e. touching) the white one, I agree.

Yes, that's it. It's not just a clear patch, it's an actual third outline.

It is especially noticeable when they use the gold fleur de lis:

Three outlines is just way too many for that logo. Great logo, before they busied it up. Now it's still a good logo, but not as good as it was.
