someone just learned how to use beveling. I just got a headache looking at it.

Not bad, although I'd prefer if they just beveled the "I" or "State," not both.

I agree completely. My only other problem with this logo is that it just doesn't say "Iowa" to me. There's something about the style of this lettering that looks more like northern California or the rust belt to me. The uber-beveling and the modern, open shape of the A are what makes this look so un-Iowan to me. Call me old fashioned, but I've always preferred university logos that speak in some way to the location and identity of the university, and this logo just isn't saying "Iowa's agricultural and engineering school" to me. Or even "Cyclones."

Hmm... now that you mention it, it does look a little "urban" for an Iowa school. Although Ames is part of the Des Moines metro area and that's somewhere that's desparately(sp?) trying trying to become a player in the urban midwest (or at the very least, a "Mini-Chicago"). So that might be where it's coming from.

Try imagining this logo contained within the shape of the state of Iowa. That made it look more "agrarian" to me.
