If the Big East / C-USA Dominoes Were to Fall

Of course everyone is forgetting about one football school in the Big East who does field (well, exluding last season) a Division 1 Bowl Series team - Notre Dame.

I've long thought that the Big East should get tough with them - give them the ultimatum that they are either in or out for all their varsity sports. Frankly, Notre Dame should think about it - even with all the subway alumni, another season or two like 2007 and I don't think NBC will keep coming back with that fat TV contract that helps them stay independent. Besides, being in the conference would:

(1) guarantee they compete for a BCS game every year, which would enhance their recruiting; and

(2) boost the prestige of the Big East vs the other BCS conferences (assuming ND returns to their winning ways)

Alternatively, Notre Dame could be the 12th team for the Big 10 - they are in the midwest, have a huge football facility, and have the national reputation in both athletics and academics that would be attractive to an expanding Big 10.

Honestly, they probably have a better shot at a BCS game by maintaining the status quo (guaranteed bid with certain ranking) than they do with joining the Conference.

Only in football, and I'm not sure that Notre Dame gains all that much from that.

The Big Ten would love have them, but I'm not sure if it will ever happen.

The Big East is pretty much fine the way it is, even with a ridiculous number of schools that don't play either football or baseball. Some other conferences could use some realigning though. Louisiana Tech has no business in the WAC. TCU in the Mountain West makes no sense.

Temple should either downgrade in football or drop the sport all together.

Denver should leave the Sun Belt for the West Coast or Big West, Sacramento State belongs in the Big West (Great West for football) and the Dakota schools would be a better fit in the Big Sky.
