A True World Series

I think it would be difficult to generate hype for this sort of event. I realize there are people who would tune in, but I don't think it would draw a huge crowd of baseball fans. Trying to make fans of the MLB care about whether their beloved (Insert team here) manages to defeat a Japanese team they've never seen play just doesn't sound that compelling. Fans want to see whether the Yankees will best the Red Sox in the play-offs. They want to know whether the Dodgers will end up winning the World Series. I don't think they're so concerned with how their team does against a Japanese team completely unknown to them.

Another issue that's already been raised here is that of players putting in effort. What incentive is there for any MLB player to give it his all? Heck, who's to say any of Japan's stars will even give it their all? Yes, there's always chance someone in the MLB will end up wanting to sign that player --- but who's to say that even matters to them?

It sounds like a nice idea that won't result in anything spectacular.

Hmmm, who's going to win? The Yankees or a team from a league where Alex Ramirez has won the MVP the past two years? <_<

It's interesting in theory but an NBL team is equivalent to either an exceptional AAA team or the 2009 Washington Nationals. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

Good point. Marginal MLB talent seemingly crushes over there. The great NBL players are about 50/50 here.

Now here's an idea: the NBL takes on either the AAA champions or a AAA All-Star team. That would at least be a fair fight, IMO. Then again, that would also be kind of a slap in the face to Japanese baseball to say that they couldn't hang with an MLB team so they should try playing a team from the minors.

They could always just take the guys from the Sacramento RiverCats and put them in A's uniforms. They're basically the A's anyway, so what would be the difference?
