Rex
What is the story behind them having that "U" as a primary logo? I've always wondered this. It doesnt make sense to me with my limited knowledge of Miami history.
JamesCraven
It dates back to the 1960's when the school adopted the "U" logo to differentciate themselves from the Miam Dolphins, who have the "M" on the helmet of their logo.
sc49erfan15
...Which really doesn't make that much sense to me, because obviously, the Miami Dolphins' helmet has the dolphin logo on it, and the dolphin has a logo with the "M" on it. (Confusing much?)I've always thought it would be cool to put the actual Dolphins helmet on the dolphin, to create a sort of infinity effect. bosox
http://hurricanesports.collegesports.com/t.../mifl-name.htmlIn 1973, UM?s Athletic Federation, the fund raising arm of the athletic department at the time, commissioned a local public relations expert to develop a distinctive logo. The University had gone several years with a variety of helmet and uniform changes and the Federation noted that a number of major colleges have the initials UM. Miami designer Bill Bodenhamer suggested the "U" idea, which lent itself to slogans like "U gotta believe" and "U is great".
