Whittier S
Answering bits from all the posts above:Dominica uses a tiny bit of purple in its flag, because the flag depicts their national bird, which has a bit of purple in its plumage. The reason purple is so rare in flags is that, before the rise of synthetic dyes, it was notoriously difficult to reproduce.I read that, if depicting an animal on a flag, that if the the animal is facing away from the hoist, it indicates running *away*, ergo, retreat, which is not an idea one wants to associate with a national flag. Therefore, the animal is pointed toward the hoist, as above. But it's been a while since I read that, and I don't remember where, so it's possible what I read was wrong. kw11333
When Canada ditched the Union Jack in the 60's it was FAR from a popular decision. It's popular NOT, but it took a decade for the nation to be fully behind it.It would be the same for Australia.
