  1. If the goal for every team is to develop the Forever Look that makes you known instantly, you tweak and change it until it's achieved. The throwback did when it came out, but the modern version falls victim to template issues. Some teams got it on attempt 1 (Raiders, Packers, Chiefs). The Blue Jays and Padres got theirs by modernizing an old look. The 49ers and Bills did similar. It's even ok to go backward and admit, we had it and messed up a rebrand like we saw with the Bucs. I never stated it as a law or as gospel. I can state that a throwback is decent and uses pictures for why. I have my design principles like everyone on this board has their own and it's what the forum is for. To discuss them and say I like A, I don't like B. I don't like the "Just promote the throwback" argument because there are issues with some teams translating it to today or a lack of uniformity in stripes, etc. That was all I said.
  2. Completely fair. Modern doesn't make it amazing and it can be used as a cash grab all the same. If we're going case by case, I've stated my reason for not liking the Rams throwbacks used on today's template. For other teams (Broncos), it shows a lot of inconsistencies that we dismiss because it's a throwback, but would have issues with today. If we're going to compare designs, you have to keep the scale equal and critique it the same way. It's lazy and cheap because it doesn't advance a brand/look and settles for decent. It settles for "Ah, people used to love this. Just bring it back". The Rams throwback on Dickerson looks great because the bigger sleeve captures the desired look of the swooping horn from the armpit to the sleeve. In the picture I used, you can see on the O-lineman that the design can be messed up quickly and takes away from the desired look. The design starts at the shoulder and loses the same swoop or gets cut off in this uniform. When players wore bigger sleeves like Bradford in the Throwback, it worked and captured what the Throwback was. Players aren't doing so, it makes a solid look worse and I would rather modernize it so a uniform works than just say old look is good when it doesn't translate the same.
  3. That's basically what I said... The only difference is there's no gap in the horn design and a different shade of yellow. I can live with that. I just don't get the high praise of the throwback because as I said, it doesn't look great on the modern uniform template. This pushes the essence of their throwback but makes it work with the current template and a better pants design.
  4. Arizona: They are great, but I think the white stripe gets lost with the silver, especially on the black pants. Keeping the pattern of letting the fabric color be the second stripe would help, but it might create a disconnect with white outlines on the jersey. Atlanta: Looks good. The black numbers on the Association does make the look a little dark.
  5. I'd rather take the current uniforms. Sticking to throwbacks or going to them because they're "classic" is lazy and cheap. Throwbacks are nice to think about for a time, but the only reason these get steam is nostalgia and the Rams' look was horrendous in the first years back in LA. They hit on the white version of their current uniform. Replicate it as the blue with no gradient and remove the Rams patch and you have a modern look that doesn't just feed on the "Good ole days." To even use the recent rebrands, I will take the Lions trying to transform an old look over the Jets just pulling an old look (for them to lose in them and want something new again).
  6. Except it doesn't look like that on the modern template. The number and horn get squished in a way that's unappealing and with a more modern camera, the differences in the royal blue jersey and navy helmet look awful. While the Rams didn't get everything right with the current uniform, I appreciate the attempt. Get rid of the name tag and replicate the white jersey as blue and they have a current interpretation of this that works
  7. So, the stripe gets cut off by the Texans logo WHY?
  8. Arizona's uniform with White pants. How we wish to see you on the field. The Texans uniform is a pretty horizontal move. It felt stale, but the new home doesn't change much
  9. This is the 2nd rebrand with a car tie-in...
  10. It's been said that New Orleans will get a new "Icon" and "Association" uniforms
  11. I'll wait until the full reveal, especially since we don't know the pants details for either team, the red alt helmet for the Texans, and at all for the Broncos but I don't hate them in concept.
  12. I don't know how I feel about these new Lions uniforms. The home is a slam dunk and looks great, but something about the helmet striping looks off compared to the pants. I want to say it's the thickness of the center line on the helmet looking thinner than it does on the pants. The away jersey is solid, but pairing it with stripeless white/blue pants is bleh. I'm not one for stripes automatically making pants better, but the Lions are a team where stripes would only improve the look. I also have an issue with the Detroit on the uniform because it just doesn't go with any element of the block font. This alternate is mediocre at best. It's not terrible enough to be offensive, but it just doesn't add anything. They could have gone with gray again, but taken a step from the Seahawk's old wolf-gray look as a road alternate or reason to have two silver pants with different striping.
  13. Might be the reason we've seen the Blue Jays only wear their alternate for the entire series with the Rays
  14. Seeing the Diamondbacks' new home uniforms with the red helmets is interesting. The color balance with the uniform is great, but the logo just gets lost on the helmet with the teal outline.
  15. Are we sure every alternate helmet is a completely new helmet and not just a logo change? Jacksonville would make sense for a Throwback this season.
