I'm pretty sure Minnesota fans have a fondness for green and gold more than Dallas fans do.

You know this for a fact?  I've seen plenty of fans at Dallas Stars games wearing North Stars jerseys over the years.

The Wild are the ones that brought back a heritage jersey with a recolored version of their crest with the classic colors. A lot of fans still do love that scheme. I'm not against Minnesota having a green and gold full-time alternate that links back to their roots.

The Wild having a Green, Yellow and White alternate doesn't prohibit the Stars from using  a Green, Yellow, Black and White one.  It's not like it's an overused colour combination.

When the Stars were a part of the Winter Classic, what they decided to go with was a victory green and white jersey with brown gloves and beige pants.

That questionable decision doesn't erase their history.  And those Winter Classic Jerseys were horrible.  The only interesting thing about them was the type of felt material they used...

The Dallas Stars never won the Stanley Cup in North Stars green and gold.

They won the Cup in forest green, bronze, and black.

    Never said they did.

But if the team had stayed in Minnesota, they would have likely darkened their palette like just about every other team in the mid 90's...  The additions of Black and Metallic Gold happened gradually and well before the team moved.

Therefore, it would be disingenuous to call it a completely separate colour scheme.

I might just be done if they do that. I'm so sick of changing based on whatever direction the wind is blowing. Mickey Mouse operation for over 50 years.

I won't stop cheering for them but if hell freezes over and they actually win a championship, it will be less special for me if it's not in Blue White and Green.

Calling it now, the Messier era Orca returns in 2034 as an alternate...  Two years later the #freewilly movement is started and the original Orca is regarded as the teams most iconic look.

I don't know what's going on in your thought process, but neither did the original black jersey nor their current alts represent the Dallas skyline.

I don't know what was going on with my thought process either.  It's almost like I read the official press release from the team...

The uniform features a bold new color in 'Skyline Green' inspired by one of the most iconic skylines in the world, Skyline Green is synonymous with the city of Dallas.

Alright, I guess I'm in the minority, but what's with the hate? At least it's something different.

Well, besides the fact it looks like a "Black Ice" fashion jersey with a gaudy colour taken from the team's Mascot, it just isn't a good fit for this kind of franchise.

No matter how much people wish the team never moved from Minnesota to Dallas (I'm one of those people for the record), the Stars are still essentially a second-six franchise with a rich history in Green, Black and Gold.  A history that includes a Stanley Cup Championship.  It is absolutely ridiculous that all of this history is swept under the rug in favor of an up-to-the-minute, trendy design with no historical precedent in the team's 57 years.

Am I saying that one of the designs below needs to come back stripe for stripe?  No.  But you could certainly look to any of these jerseys for inspiration and come up with something infinitely better than the Skyline Green sweater.

And speaking of the Skyline...  Their original black jersey did a far better job of representing how the Dallas skyline looks at night...  They can refer to that gaudy neon colour as "Skyline Green" all they want, I'm not buying it.

  6. If the Skate is going to be worn in the playoffs, it likely means a switch to it full-time is on the horizon 😑.  They finally got their uniforms right when they removed the arched wordmark and now they want to ditch, or at least minimize, one of the league's best colour schemes for something that looked dated in 1994...  This team is never going to have a proper identity.

  8. Replacing the current logo with the Fin would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater.  I agree the logo is in dire need of an update but the fin is not strong enough to be their primary logo.  It's the perfect shoulder patch.

What they should do is update their original logo...  Make the Shark more realistic, give it the teal highlights of the current logo and fix the hockey stick.  It's hilarious that both versions of that logo got the stick so wrong.

  9. The striping is what will make or break this design...  Hopefully it has more in common with their 2007-2017 alternate than their "stealth jersey."  That re-coloured Northern California shoulder patch looks great.  Hopefully it's on both shoulders.

IIRC with those DALLAS jerseys, there was some level of an attempt from the Stars organization to pull from college hockey.

Those Stars jerseys were just abysmal.  Thin piping where stripes should be and little consistency between the home and road.  Green was the most prominent colour on the white jersey while being completely absent on the black version.  Double outlined numbers on one, triple outlines on the other.  In recent years some interesting prototypes have emerged on Ebay...

You've got the home version with a proper logo on the front (big improvement)...

...and an earlier version of the alternate, that eventually became the road, with single outlined numbers

I'd imagine that the Reebok Edge disasters soured everyone on that color scheme.

It was certainly looking dated even before Reebok ruined their jerseys...  Lightening the green to what they have now was definitely the right move.  Maybe they could make an alternate based off the cup jerseys but with the new shade of green and with the gold retained.

I love the Stars current uniforms in a vacuum but it's disheartening how far removed they are from the look associated with the franchise's pinnacle.  Having an alternate with some gold would go a long way to fix that and bridge the gap between the two era's...  Whatever they decide to do, those Skyline Green monstrosities have to go.  They looked dated the second they were released and are not fit for a pro team IMO.

Those jerseys are the perfect example of a modern classic (Dallas' template improved on it). It's a really simple, bold design. Just a few stripes and big solid blocks of colour. The Teal and Purple were definitely a product of the 90s, but they still looked amazing

I don't know if I'd quite call it a modern classic (the way the logo lines up with the star template is kind of awkward) but it is perplexing how the team completely ignores the design that coincided with their peak.  It would certainly make a better alternate than what they use now.

I’m calling it now, give it 30 years and these will be seen as beloved classics.

Is any All Star Game jersey really revered as a classic?  Minnesota's get a lot of praise but I don't think anyone would call either of them a classic design.  Maybe the Orange and Black ones from the early 90's?

    That looks very unresolved.

    The logo or the jersey?

Many Reebok Edge jerseys did due to how empty the hem was. It felt like the designers just left that space blank.

It's because the Reebok Edge jerseys were originally designed to be tucked in.  Fortunately, many owners rebelled including Peter Karmanos who insisted the Hurricanes retain their warning flag striping.

Never let Bieber/Toronto cook again. Absolute monstrosity. They've lost all kitchen privileges after whipping up those piles of :censored:

They should have had their privileges permanently revoked after that reversible alternate.  If there was ever a jersey to sum up everything wrong with hockey design in the 2020's, it's that.  Miraculously, these All Star jerseys are even worse.

The lettering is hideous. It splits the difference between writing out the full name and not writing the name at all, which is very awkward. The bolt is just plopped over the circle instead of coming out of it as it did on the original. Overall, just a poor update to a logo that was bad in the first place.

The colour scheme alone makes it an improvement over their current logo but I agree with your criticisms.  The Lightning have never had a good logo but they did have a fantastic colour scheme which is why the current identity is so frustrating.

Didn't Phil Esposito draw it on a napkin?

He did and it shows.  But again, the colour scheme still makes it an improvement over the current logo.
