  1. I'm surprised more people aren't asking questions like that. But my guess is that some negotiations would take place and this breakaway mega-conference alliance would end up being football-only since any other championship it tried to decide would automatically be disputable. In every other sport there's plenty of teams that either don't have football or aren't in BCS conferences that are perennial contenders for the national championship like Memphis, Gonzaga, Butler, a handful of Big East schools (basketball), Long Beach and CS-Fullerton (baseball), or Johns Hopkins (lax). Or they could end up having two separate tournaments with the final being a game between the champion of each alliance. At least those are the best case scenarios... the sad reality is that all this elitist dick-waving over football could end up killing the significance of every other college sport, whether intentional or not.
  2. I think it would make more sense for the Texas and Oklahoma schools to move to the SEC instead of the Pac-10, but geography seems to be less of a concern now more than ever. One good thing that could come from this is the default reformation of classic conferences as divisions. If the Pac-10 does expand to 16 teams, the original Pac-8 will likely form one of the divisions. I could also see a division in the ACC/Big East mash-up containing all the original ACC teams depending on whether or not the SEC targets any of their schools.
  3. I'm hoping that somehow this super-conference alliance could somehow become football-only and allow for the creation (or revival) of smaller, more closely-knit (geographically) conferences for basketball and other sports. I've felt for awhile now that each individual sport should have its own governing body so that schools like Louisiana Tech don't have to break themselves by sending their volleyball and soccer teams to the mountain states just because the football team didn't have anywhere else to go. Also, if the super-conferences end up breaking away, I see the NCAA getting rid of the FBS/FCS designation, thereby (ironically) deciding the Division 1 championship with the already existing FCS playoff. The bowls might also still be around since technically, they're exhibitions that are played after the season and aren't sanctioned by the NCAA anyway. Somehow, I don't see the teams that missed the playoffs giving up an easy paycheck.
  4. Wow... I thought I'd already seen every uniform the Brewers ever wore. Even though Tuscan lettering would look generic for most teams, I wish the Brewers had gone with it. It looks like something a beer company would use without being a thinly-veiled ad for a particular brand.
  5. If I am not mistaken, that's the same script as the Brewers used on the road in the Ball-in-Glove days. I'm surprised that the Bucks were considering using that. Though it would have been a nice jersey. I believe it was intended to be an homage to their older road set (seen here). I'm not sure if that's the same script the Brewers used. Might be slightly different. It's the same script, only difference is the version the Bucks used in the 70s had a drop-tail. Even though I'm glad they switched back to their original colors, I could've tolerated the previous identity if they'd made this their full-time roads. Switching to purple ranks amongst the dumbest moves the franchise ever made... and that's saying something!
  6. Your Big 10 and SEC seem plausible, but everything after that falls apart. Why would ANY school choose the Big XII over the Pac 10? Especially Boise when they're in a state the borders two Pac 10 states, but none in the Big XII?
  7. Ah, the whole "blow a smokescreen over my douchebaggery by claiming I'm conducting a social experiment" retort... haven't seen that one before
  8. Why should/could the NCAA, an organization made up of the member schools, dictate what or which schools do/can to organize? They (NCAA) already lost a case taken to the Supreme Court with the CFA in 1984 concerned with who controls college football telecasts. Why get beaten down again, 30 years later when the damages would be enough for those schools who file class action to split? They got busted for trying to limit "trade" in terms of the number of games aired and the money which schools receive, so why now try to restrain organization? If they "limit" the size of conferences, then they may violate the Sherman Act, again. For those who want to read the SCOUTS decision in 1984, look here: NCAA vs. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma I'm no attorney, but I'm pretty sure an argument can be made that the practices of these power conferences (and... apparently... soon to be "super-conferences) being monopolistic and non-competitive. The mid-majors were able to sue their way into the BCS on those grounds.
  9. What I wanna know is, why the hell doesn't the NCAA step in and limit the sizes of these conferences? It's bad enough that they caused them to cannibalize each other by making that idiotic "12 teams for a football championship" rule. 8-10 is the ideal size for a conference. There's no reason any of them need more than 12 teams, and even that should be reserved for conferences that cover areas with low population density (such as the Mountain West).
  10. You're right that it doesn't make a difference to the casual fan (or even some hardcore fans). But it does weaken the Big East's political power within the NCAA.
  11. Not to burst your bubble but Idaho, Boise State, UNLV, Nevada, Colorado State & BYU will never be admitted to the Pac-10. I can guarantee that. Colorado & Utah probably to maybe. NO WAY should any of the Colorado schools be a part of this discussion... even the Utah schools are a reach if you ask me. This is just another example of how greed is ruining college football. How can the government be so authoritarian about stepping into other rackets that don't even need their interference, yet be so lax on collegiate sports where it obviously is?
  12. He "affected" his Sox fandom throughout his presidential run too and I have a hard time believing he expected that to win him any votes. Maybe he just really REALLY likes the Sox? That said, Scott Walker (A-1 sleazebag and candidate for Governor of Wisconsin) was outside of Lambeau a couple weeks ago decked out head-to-toe in Packers gear in a sorry attept to show what a "regular guy" he is. I'd be shocked if he could actually name a single player on the roster besides Aaron Rodgers or Donald Driver, but it doesn't make me cringe because I understand he's a politcian doing what politicans do... pandering to morons. What does make me cringe is the idea that someone may actually be stupid enough to think "I'm gonna vote for Scott Walker because Aaron Rodgers kicks ass!!!" or just the idea of Walker being Governor at all really, but because he happens to put on green & gold every now and then... seriously?
  13. I'm a ChiSox fan and that sight makes me cringe every time. Do you have any idea how many ignorant rednecks are Packers fans? grow up dude... Wow...no need for the racism, "dude"! Ignorant rednecks are now a race? Or, did you mean that packer fans are now a race? There was no racism in what the poster said about cringing after seeing Obama in a ChiSox jersey. People need to get off the "everything is racist if you say anything about Obama". Maybe he cringes because Obama's left-handed. Who knows....? That is just as silly a statement as saying the OP is racist because he cringes seeing Obama in a ChiSox jersey and cap. Grow up. Figured that since this thread got back to the top, I'd explain my point... Basically, I think it's rather petty and ridiculous to "cringe" simply because the politics or culture (or lack thereof) of someone else who happens to be a fan of the same team as you. If I can still manage to be a Packers fan despite being much too aware that it puts me amongst the ranks of MANY northwoods dwelling hicks who drop the n-bomb like it's still 1929 and think killing is a recreational activity, then I don't see why the OP should care that Obama is a Sox fan.
  14. I've had that exact same beef ever since they came up with that idiotic rule. The only rationale (albeit a weak one) I can think of is that the minimum number of teams allowed for a conference is 6, so conferences with 12 teams can technically be considered "double conferences" and therefore justify a bowl-like matchup (told you it was weak). But since all signs are pointing towards the Big Ten looking east, I'm hoping for Pitt. It wouldn't stretch the conference further than it already is (Central PA to Iowa is way too much ground for a college conference IMO) and it would restart the Penn State-Pitt rivalry as well as make them natural travel partners. Only thing I don't like about it is what it would do with the Big East, but I would think it would just be more motivation for the notoriously petty Big Ten to raid the conference that dared to eat away at its relative exclusivity over the Milwaukee (Marquette) and Chicago (DePaul) markets.
  15. Doesn't this come up every other year? First off, as long as Notre Dame has their NBC deal, they'll never become a full-time member of any conference, so we can scratch them off the list. Of all the schools on that list, Iowa State is really the only one I wouldn't have any complaints about since the state of Iowa is already in their territory. Missouri I would have a slight beef with, but since it's still a midwestern school and borders two other Big Ten states (Iowa and Illinois) I could live with that. But knowing the Big Ten, they'll be more than willing to fugg up the geographic continuity of the conference (even more so than Penn State did) and go after Syracuse or Rutgers. Especially now that they have their cash grab... ahem... cable network and would love to tap into the NYC market. Now the fun part... if this happens, what chain reaction of realignment will this set off? yea yea yea... I know... STOP REEL LINE MINT. But until the NCAA gets rid of that idiotic rule about conferences having to have 12 members for a football championship game, we can expect it to continue.
  16. I'm a ChiSox fan and that sight makes me cringe every time. Do you have any idea how many ignorant rednecks are Packers fans? grow up dude...
  17. What font is "Atlanta?" It looks almost like a lot I've found in various sites on the web, but nothing exact.
  18. As a native Wisconsinite... I think that's a beautiful sound. I give those redneck fanboys two weeks into the regular season before they let go of their "I'm no longer a Packers fan" stance and go back to rockin' their hunter orange ballcaps with the oval G on the front with pride.
  19. Really? Ever hear of Sam Bowie? LaRue Martin? Len Bias? Michael Olowokandi? Darko Milicic? Andrew Bogut? Back on topic, here's Robert Parish with the Bulls... Hit a nerve with Len Bias. Had Bias not killed himself, Boston would've won at least 5 more titles. I mean you would've had Bias, Bird, McHale, Parish, Johnson. Need I Continue? I am way too young to know this but I do know my NBA history and I may be correct when I say the Cs would have at least 20 NBA championships cuz no one could've matched up with that roster... I agree. That's really pushing it to say that Len Bias was one of the Worst Picks in NBA History (even if his death was drug-relatd). Nobody knew he was going to die soon after draft day. And Andrew Bogut? He's not that bad. He is, somewhat, a bust, but not comparable to Sam Bowie. In fact, no one will ever be comparable to Sam Bowie. And I have a contribution; Cleveland Browns Great Brian Sipe with the USFL's NJ Generals: I don't think Bogut is necessarily a bust... it was pretty widely acknowledged that he game from a weak draft class and might not have even been top #5 in a more "typical" class. In other words, I don't think any Bucks fans were expecting him to be the next Kareem...
  20. Sheff's hatred of Milwaukee always got compared to Kareem's alleged hatred (contrary to popular belief, Kareem always spoke well of the city and its fans)... Nice to know it was (apparently) nothing personal... seeing as how he hasn't stayed anywhere else for more than 3 years
  21. This might seem obvious to some, but what font is "Milwaukee?" All the scripts I've looked at are either too thin or doesn't have a few letters (usually including the M) right. It looks as if the Montgomery Biscuits might be using the same font:
