  1. The NFL strictly bans any and all other ownership groups from having a Packers-style setup. There's a reason there's only one.
  2. When you add in that most "authentic" Reebok NHL jerseys are now second-rate Indonesian sweatshop jobs, and true authentic jerseys are only available at limited outlets where only the jersey-obsessive are likely able to discern the difference, the level of botchery is really something to behold. For what it's worth, my Premier jersey is an AHL replica, which means it's made in Canada, and it;s still not very good. The material reminds me of those thin replicas from the 1980s.
  3. I bought my first Reebok "Premier" hockey replica recently, and my goodness. Flimsy. As. Hell. Now, again, I neither condone nor advocate the purchase of counterfeit jerseys. But if an uneducated consumer is presented with the options of this $130 replica or a $60 "authentic", I can see why they'd go for the latter, even if it does look shoddy to the trained eye. I feel the key there is "uneducated consumer". It's on the manufacturers to make a competitive/superior product to justify the price point. And it's on the leagues to get the message across as to why fans should purchase non-counterfeit merchandise. Buy airtime during sporting events and say something more than "come to our web shop and buy buy buy", because while you're doing that, countless people have eBay or superrealjerseys.us in their hand and think they're getting the same thing for 75% less.
  4. I know it's a low bar to clear, but putting the majority of the burden of the arena management fee on actual patrons of the arena is arguably the most logical concept we've had in this entire saga.
  5. You don't have to be rational. The Coyotes sure as crap aren't worth $170M or $220M - the recent sales of other, more viable teams prove that. So you charge what the market will bear, regardless of its relevance to the market value of other teams. Quebec's pinned itself in a corner with its new rink and Markham wants to be GTA2 more than anything. You charge whatever both can afford.
  6. I understand why the NHL isn't moving the Coyotes to Quebec City. They're trying to play the long game. Quebec is building a $400 million arena with no promise of a team. They *need* an NHL team, so there's no reason to sell them the Coyotes for $220 million now when you can charge them a $400-600 million expansion fee in a couple of years. The problem is that, for expansion to be feasible and for Seattle to succeed, multiple things have to break their way that the league has no control over. The path they've chosen seems very high-risk.
  7. This is the Cleveland Barons all over again, only with a worse arena situation.
  8. The decision whether or not to move the team comes a week after the draft. Eight letters go here.
  9. BREAKING: League-Owned Hockey Franchise Purchased By Alberta-Based Ownership Group, Will Not Move
  10. Some of us remember when the AFL Las Vegas Gladiators held their practices in a casino parking lot under the midday Nevada desert sun, occasionally next to where circus animals were kept, and once played a regular-season game on a non-holiday Monday afternoon on a surface patched with duct tape in some spots. And by "some of us", I mean probably just me and rams80.
  11. Just my opinion but I think the Devils will stay put in North Jersey. I still feel like the team that will move to Quebec are the Panthers. How that team has survived as long as they have in South Florida is beyond me. The Panthers operate as a loss leader for the arena, and the owners face a severe penalty if the team breaks its long-term lease.
  12. If you believe the Blackhawks, the mighty, sold-out-five-years-straight Blackhawks, are actually losing as much as the Phoenix Coyotes every season, I've got a great business proposal to offer you. Cash only. Rocky's pushing paper and crying poor to justify ticket hikes, and he's posturing as Rahm tries to build a competing, taxpayer-funded arena in the Sloop. Either that, or he's a worse businessman than his dad. You tell me which is more likely.
  13. Not all opinions are worth respecting. Dumb ideas deserve to be called out as such. Welcome to grown-up time, pony-boy.
  14. Ever think there's a reason everyone keeps ignoring you?
  15. Say, what is the Goldwater Institute up to these days, anyway?
  16. Fox Sports Arizona has a good chunk of details, as well. Here, literally, is the money quote: Spending $6 million a year to bring in $1.5 million in revenue? You just got Glendaled, son!
  17. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/coyotes/articles/20130613nhl-peppers-glendale-power-play-over-phoenix-coyotes.html So now a Glendale says a new mystery buyer has emerged to save the team and he's totally going to have an offer ready later today and I can't even with this sh
  18. So, calling four straight meetings while Glendale's City Council walked through a revolving door to circumvent quorum got noticed.
  19. The Coyotes are worth $45 million. Great jorb, Gary. Great jorb.
  20. That's what they've been doing for four years, so yes.
  21. I smell a promotional night! "Donkey Show Wednesdays" at spudlust.com Arena! (This whole thing is just an elaborate work to promote the chip wagon, right?)
  22. Indiegogo doesn't collect unless - and until - the full amount is raised, I believe. At least, that's what Gawker said the deal was with their Crackstarter campaign. Also, "these jerks" are Lee.
