Also, you have to wonder if, at this point, how quick can teams really throw anything together? Unless they already know, and have the designs ready.

To reinforce your point, such a late announcement would not fit within the standard uniform and equipment ordering lead times so even pre-existing throwback designs seeing the field this year does not seem likely.

Speaking of the Buffalo, I love this font they use on the practice jerseys... just not for the Bills

This font conjures 2 thoughts: Baseball and heat pressed.

It’s not too boring to be a primary logo. It’s strong, dynamic, invokes both football and motion, and would make for a great helmet decal.

It's better but why the oval? If you want to evoke the jet imagery without a plane, the '78 logo is a perfect start as it really evokes  era of jet-set era airline logos.

Inside sources have confirmed to me that the Las Vegas Raiders will wear black jerseys and the Minnesota Vikings will have horns on their helmet for the upcoming season. I know you guys won't believe me but I expect you all to grovel before me when the season starts

did you get that off reddit?

Or you could just see it for what it is as a nice looking football uniform that has absolutely nothing to do with Ole Miss or the freaking Confederacy. It’s not that deep.

I did see it for what it was and made the mental connection rather quickly it's not a reach to think that the concept is not a good fit for a franchise named the new england patriots.

This is exactly what I’ve always thought! Red stripes on a white jersey are kinda covered by the 49ers and Giants, but the blue numbers help a lot (and the Giants should change anyway).

I think it's a nice cleaned up design but I get too much of a ole miss vibe from the gray pants/white jersey and given miss' past association with the confederacy I would go a different direction.

Yeah since teams don't put the helmet maker mark on the bumper anymore, the helmet makers have to distinguish their models by the shell design.

The only maker's mark since the late 80's early 90's was riddell because they paid to be the official supplier. Also for a couple decades you only had 2 shells on the field, riddell and schutt so the schutt's were either unbranded or had team branding on the bumpers.

  8. Unless there are some major player transactions one the veteran side I don't see too many number changes at this point due to the retail timing. Rookies on the other hand will be in play for college numbers.

Rugby still does this, which is why there are no names on the back of international uniforms. In fact, if you wanted to order England jerseys with a number other than 1-15 it had to be a multiple of 5 (20-100), for an anniversary year. Pro leagues allow NOB now, but some leagues still stick to the number being determined by position.

The rugby system is rigid but kind of neat. Imagine the starting 22 in the nfl using a number system you could do a position centric numbering system using the first digit.

    Example:

    • QB: 10's
    • HB: 20's
    • FB: 30's
    • TE: 40's
    • C : 50's
    • G: 60's (odd left/even right)
    • T: 70's (odd left/even right)
    • SE/FL/WR: 80's (odd left/even right)

Obviously a system this rigid would imply very limited substitution and rather static lineup/formation (impractical with modern gridiron) which is more common in rugby/soccer but kind of an interesting hypothetical.

    Nothing.

    1) with the bigger covid rosters, teams that retired a lot of numbers had issues

    2) young WRs don't want to wear "old guy" numbers in the 80s, even if they're available.

Neither of those is the fault of the numbering system... which has already been expanded to give more options to WRs, TEs, and LBs.

I think the prevalence of the spread offense and the fact that so many players fit into a hybrid skill player mold these days has pretty much made the traditional system obsolete. With that being said, I did appreciate the fact that the nfl over the 20th century brought some additional structure to the pro game that set it apart from college. With the uniform guidelines being heavily relaxed and now this, the visual distinction from college is becoming less and less which is a bit of a disappointment.

I think those are delayed, but some of the bigger Nike schools are supposed to move to the Vapor Fusion uniform this year.

Oregon's ice cold uniforms vs. rival Washington

nike vapor fusion uniforms online -

I'd like to think if Cincinnati is going with a shoulder/sleeve cap stripe design, these may be the best way to show them off.

texaslonghornsfootball🏈🏈🏈🏈🐂🐂🐂🐂 Instagram posts (photos and videos) - Picuki.com

It's also been getting used in practice by Texas, Ohio State and Tennessee for the past year at least.

I've lost track of the naming conventions for all of their templates but this design is a step backward with the added seams and panels. Minimalism has never really been nike's think but the current fusion something or other really is peak uniform template. With that being said, you can definitely shoehorn a 00's miami hurricanes design into this.

It also makes it easier for him to sell the team.  I'm not sure there's much more driving into the ground that he can do with 80% that he can't do with what he already has..

These are relevant points but snyder seems to have the inate ability to double down into negative space so I think this is going to be one of those it will get worse before it gets better scenarios.

I find it difficult to believe that they would really just stick with WFT.

    Because it's stupid.

You know what's even more stupid? Allowing the colossal a-hole owner to buy out his owners and take full control of the franchise and drive them further into the ground. Just disband them already and start anew.

Not quite. That’s what it’s evolved into and makes for a really good excuse (and maybe a valid one, too). But the original rule was a bit more complicated than that, and had a lot more to do with marketing than safety. I’m not saying safety wasn’t a part of it, but it wasn’t the primary reason until CTE. The one helmet rule predates the better understanding we now have of CTE by probably a decade, at least.

I will say that safety was not a part of it as there is zero empirical evidence backing such a policy. This OHR was intended provide the media a meaningless factiod that they could amplify to he public because it was overly simplistic and made it sound like the league was taking head injuries very seriously. It's no different than setting up a fake initiative complete with website/branding etc. or saying you are committed to X cause because you dedicated an unknown % of proceeds. It's optics and nothing more.

Agreed. In fact, the football has enough space to where 'Monsters of the Midway' could be placed on there and it'd look great on the backs of sideline jackets and t-shirts.

nike made a t shirt with that logo a few years back...not sure if they sell it now but the bears team store in the past has had a wide array of retro logo merch that was really nice...this was all pre-fanatics mind you.

    geez, I miss those uniforms...

This should be the 1st question when before ever accepting a redesign. Is it an improvement over what we currently have? More often than not the answer is NO. In the case of JAX they got it right year 4 and have been thrashing around ever since.

The fact that there’s clearly room for the three stripes on the shoulders but Reebok chose to cut them off at the cuff annoys me extremely.

Any idea who is wearing 7? I tried looking up the roster and I'm clueless.

  18. 1 hour ago, oldschoolvikings said:

But the fact that the 49ers consistently wear them with those stupid white socks means that they think of them as Color Rush uniforms.

It's just the same with the Giants and Saints CRs.  The white socks screw up what would otherwise be nice throwbacks.

They should have just brought back the '94 home throwback. Such a missed opportunity.

I assume the major implications of this will have to do with the combine, which won’t even be happening this year. Also would players still be allowed to wear UA cleats and gloves etc.?

Combine gear and any shoes/gloves on field. They must really be hurting financially than publicly known and it seems awkward that they will only have a cfb presence which may lead be no presence over the next year or two.
