A random twitter account said the new Utah Jazz jerseys will be released on June 17th.

    🤷‍♂️

That's too bad. I'm still going to be thinking about this travesty on my birthday. Kind of ruins the whole thing, which is impressive because it's already ruined since my birthday just reminds me of my lost youth as I circle the drain of eternity.

I've been vocally anti-Warriors for a while, but that's transitioned from annoyance to begrudging respect. They had a death star roster, fell off for two years and, just like they did in the early 2010s, hit on pretty much every single draft pick.

They're the model NBA franchise and if Steph and Klay stay healthy, they might win two or three more.

I think I'm in the same boat. They're a team that got good, became all-time great, and then added an elite talent which made the league boring. I remember being so excited for the inevitability of a Warriors vs. Cavaliers III until Durant signed. Then it just became hammer vs. nail instead of a really cool rivalry. Then that faded and they quickly rebuilt. Imagine if they had just trusted the process though.

Since I still haven't managed to get a better answer as to why everyone hates them than "they win too much" I'm really hoping the Warriors win this thing going away. The fact that it'll annoy everyone who seems to be coasting on general pettiness makes me want to be petty right back.

There isn't a better answer. That was the point. 99% of sports hate is based on being wronged. Nobody is alive to remember the time the Vikings wronged anybody which is why they're pitied rather than hated.

  3. Memphis played really strong defense and made Golden State look incredibly beatable in the last game. The difference was that Memphis (especially Dillon Brooks) weren't hitting shots. I figured last game would be the Warriors worst performance of the playoffs and they got bailed out. Nevermind I guess.

Probably doesn't help that Steph hit himself with such a powerful jinx.

The Grizzlies were great this year, but they just aren't there yet. They might need an additional piece or two, but I think a little more experience would help them.

Still, I can't believe how much of a contributor Morant is; New Orleans really missed out in the draft.

He's a lot better than the Grizzlies' previous #2 pick of Hasheem Thabeet. That dude had so little chance of being a success that even I knew he was doomed the moment he was drafted and I'm not an expert in anything.

I am worried that I'm going to survive the summer. That's too bad, I guess.

Grizzlies are one of those teams I  know next to nothing about except for the fact they used to be the only NBA team to play in a Pyramid. That's cool.

My first Grizzlies game was when they were still at the Pyramid. It was always unsettling how high up the ceiling was. I kind of wish they'd stuck with the teal, black, and red color scheme.

Now it's a fancy-ass Bass Pro Shop because Memphis is the Redneck Nexus where Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi meet.

The main thing to know about the Grizz is that Ja Morant is legitimately one of the most exciting players in basketball. I'd watch him play even if he were with a pointless franchise like the Knicks.

    I'm rooting for them!

Welcome to the bandwagon! Best case scenario, I'm dead by the end of June from partying too hard.

Also, man it's weird rooting for a Grizzlies team that's legit fun to watch. The previous Grit N Grind teams had their moments, but I could see a lot of people finding them off putting in the way the Spurs often were. But also the Spurs were more fun to watch than NBA dorks that were desperate for the Knicks to matter would have you believe.

Ja is for real though. If you watch that dude play ball and don't get hyped you're either a nerd who hates sports or he's kicking your team's ass. In the case that it's the latter, I get it.

  7. Changing to two stripes in the first place was such a weird thing. It seemed like it was done because they weren't fitting the three stripes onto the sleeves properly and instead of just making a slight alteration to that, they just threw one of them in the garbage, which is super strange. Also glad to see a return to the saloon mark. Small but good changes all around.

Probably not his idea but there is no way that it happened without his approval.

I'd bet a few bucks that it was AD Terry Mohajir's idea. He used to be AD at Arkansas State and was always coming up with wild ideas. He was the one in charge when we auctioned off the coaching job for the spring game, for instance. Also, spring games don't matter.

The Nuggets are on that level.

They've definitely changed a lot. It's always been variations of shades blue, gold, and red outside of the rainbow look. I think the Jazz go beyond that. We've had green and gold, purple and gold, purple and blue, double blues, green and blue and gold, and now black and highlighter.

The Hawks and Cavaliers are pretty good candidates now that I think about it.

Where are the fans to boycott that rebrand? Leeds fans and some other football fans can force their clubs to ditched changes so Utah fans could try this also. I know, I know in US all merchandise are probably already made so Jazz, nike, NBA, etc. will loose money if they change minds and stop that rebrand but pluck it.

Current Jazz brand is their best brand since 90's one and they should keep that (change unis if you want).

Yeah, generally the best hope is that there's a major fan revolt and it's fixed in a couple of years or so, similar to what happened with the Chicago Fire's branding disaster a few years ago. The old days of fans stopping the 49ers logo change before it actually happens are gone.

Teams are allowed to pick any name and any color scheme they want. If this is the brand they want, go for it. If they coe out with this and still run throwbacks or the red rocks, its criminal.

The issue people have with any given branding attempt isn't that a team can do something, it's whether or not they should.

Has anybody changed color schemes more than the Jazz and now had more disparate changes? I was hoping for their last shakeup that they'd go all the way back to green and gold, but oh well. NBA branding at this point is just whatever you want whenever, so I don't understand why they feel the need to completely overhaul the color scheme. Just have one of the ugly jerseys as the special jersey, whatever it is that they're called.

  12. And since then we've let it play out with the WFL (less than two seasons), USFL (three seasons), XFL 1 (one season), AAF (less than a season), XFL 2 (COVID cancellation so we'll see later I guess). It's not exactly a mystery as to why people expect the worst. Our most recent example of a supposedly successful alternative league was the USFL which was rife with turmoil and financial issues even before the ill-fated attempt at a fall season.

You ask why they keep trying these spring leagues? Because there’s enough compelling evidence that it could work that people keep trying to unlock the formula.

Is there compelling evidence that spring football could work long term? We've been chasing the high of the original USFL for decades with diminishing returns. I'm certainly not wishing for failure, but the crown jewel of spring football was a league that lasted three seasons nearly 40 years ago.

I thought the playoffs had to be in Canton because the stadium wasn't available.

Can anyone confirm that (too lazy to google).

This is correct, the 2022 World Games are going to be there. Maybe it'll draw more interest locally just by virtue of being somewhere else. This is a really weird setup.
