Royal blue and navy are historical colors for the chargers. Ever since Color Rush, historical colors aren't contained to just throwbacks.

The exact shade of the light blue isn't the issue for the Texans, it's that the color would not be present on the home and away, and is not part of franchise history. But also, the Oilers Titans can't claim exclusive rights to a single shade of blue, no matter how much they want to. They can own the name that they call it, but the Texans could use the same shade and just call it something else.

But it's a rebrand (or refresh if we're being more accurate) so they could switch to purple and green in theory and there would be no rule against that, would there?

Would the Texans even be allowed to use light blue on an alternate? Isn't the rule that alternate colors have to be present on the primary home or road, or be a historical color? And the league has been very clear that the Oilers are NOT part of the Texans' history. So unless they sneak a bit of light blue onto the home jersey, I don't think we'll see a red and light blue alt, as good as those colors would look.

Chargers have 2 different blue alternate sets that aren't on the primary uniform or primary logo.

Also I would guess like someone mentioned its a shade of light blue but not the same shade as the oilers.

BLUE COLLAR, because marketers will have you believe that every city is BLUE COLLAR and that everyone in every city BRINGS THEIR LUNCH TO WORK IN A PAIL.  If you'll excuse me, I'm off to my management job in a downtown office building where I'm going to post on blogs about how certain athletes aren't "philly guys" because they're not BLUE COLLAR like me.  Hopefully my assistant doesn't disturb me by bringing me my coffee while I'm in the middle of posting.

It’s gonna be hard to top the time Nike matched the airport carpet for some basketball team.

As a non Oregonian, that carpet is seemingly iconic, and I've definitely known about that carpet for years. I wanna say Dame had shoes that had some carpet elements too..?

Unless an entire fifth organization has been able to keep a secret, there are only four teams getting new uniforms. That's why I don't trust this guy. I think his sources are straight up bad.

The Broncos looked to the fans for guidance on the new uniforms, and the fans preferred WHITE helmets OVER royal blue? I'm not buying it. I think the color scheme remains largely the same with a 68-96 throwback.

This white helmet nonsense is this year's Cardinals getting a maroon and orange makeover. If it ends up being true, I'll be shocked (and bummed out).

Did we ever get a backstory to the maroon and orange? This one actually sounded like it had legitimate sources.

Was it just an initial option that ended up not making the final cut?

I'm still very curious about that whole debacle.

What examples have we ever even had? 1996-2008 49ers, or does metallic gold even count as dark? Cardinals’ black alt maybe?

Honestly I mean almost generally speaking a colored facemask doesn't look good on a dark/black helmet.

I think these would both look better with black facemasks.

I feel like I'm going crazy, but I hate red facemasks on dark helmets. It gives generic high school vibes.

It always looks worse than a solid dark colored helmet to me.

I want to be extremely clear that if these shoulder horns extend across the back of these jerseys, it will be the exact opposite of 'cool'.

You can see in the reflection that the horn stops at the sleeve cap - thankfully.

So is the stripe truncated, as Nike has been known to do, or is he wearing an untucked navy undershirt? I don't think this phrase has ever been said before, but... I'm hoping his shirt is untucked.

It is most definitely a stripe. If that were the swoosh then it would be backwards, too far down the sleeve, and too far forward. The blue spot above the horn is the swoosh. You can see it in the reflection.

It looks to be a truncated stripe with the Texans logo in the gap.

I'm very happy to see the default road uniform uses contrasting socks.

I know plain white socks aren't for everyone, but an ABAB pattern for a uniform works in terms of color blocking. I wish these had more red, but I don't really have serious complaints otherwise. I'm a fan of the font on first glance, will have to see what the other numbers look like.

I'd prefer some color on the socks, but I agree - if you're gonna do solid socks, this style of color blocking is the way to do it, with some thicc boi pants stripes no less.

I hope they stick to it, last year they did a lotttt of all white from the waist down and all navy from the waist down with no white sock bottoms. (not holding my breath but a return to white bottoms for the texans would be awesome.)

Sadly Texans you have gone mid but that's because we expected you to at least go red helmets... and then you kept that bar low by disappointment.

From what's been gathered a red helmet is still strongly in the mix. Whether red will be the primary helmet/jersey choice is yet to be seen - but I think  a lot of the fan base is hoping for that.

As someone who thought the last set was near perfect, these arent bad so far. I was expecting a lot worse - and they still feel like an evolution of the old set instead of a complete overhaul. The absence of chrome so far is a good sign.

An abandoned warehouse seems like a very, very odd choice to have a professional football team's uniform reveal.

I'm pretty sure it's the interior of a building called Post HTX which has one of the best rooftop skyline views of the city.

Footy Headlines is claiming these are the new US shirts.

Not sure how I feel about them. Something about the images just looks off, like the material is cheap and they may be a fake. I would bet the final product looks like these shirts, regardless. I think the home shirt is a cool idea that was poorly executed. From more than 10 feet away, it will look like a super bland shirt. As for the away shirt, I’ve never loved the US in royal and much prefer navy. The stripe is bizarre and it makes me scared for the shorts. I’ll fear the worst that they’ll be red, like a 2014 bomb pop kit on steroids.

I miss the US Nike kits from about 2006-2014. We’ve had a good kit here or there, but lack cohesiveness and have had a lot of bad kits in between. I much prefer the traditional designs and hope we get something good for 2026 as hosts.

I don't mind these, but my concern is that the Homes look really similar to our last qualifying cycle kits, albeit a little more boring, and the sleeves might look pink from a distance. Although I think we've been rumored to get a throwback kit for the olympics, so maybe they purposely avoided going too navy heavy for that reason.

The away is actually kinda cool. I grew to love the "bomb popp" (hate that nickname still) so I actually look forward to hopefully red from the waist down.

I also feel like nike has strayed too far from cleaner jersey materials. Idk if it's to combat counterfeits, but the heavily textured kits have almost become distracting, and it's odd when it becomes a design element that translates to the pattern being sublimated on replicas.

In the NBA, Zach Lowe had an article a few years back about the Heat refusing Nike's City Edition concept, and instead designing the well-received Vice jerseys in-house.

NBA has normally given teams and option for an in house design or a nike led design for city uniforms.

  13. 10 hours ago, SSmith48 said:

I'm gonna go off on a tangent here that will make me seem like a conspiracy theorist, but what if the NFL/Nike's prerogative is to design bad/mediocre uniforms on purpose so that they can turn around, pull them 5 years later, and milk more money from fans with a new, more popular set? It's happening with the Jets and Lions where they introduced generally mixed or unpopular uniforms, only to scrap them relatively early on in their lifespan in favor of more fan-favorite looks (i.e. Jets' modern "collegiate" look to the "Sack Exchange" throwback uniforms). The last couple of redesigns from the Cardinals and Commanders seem like they may be set up for the same fate. There have been rumors swirling around the Titans too, although its for sure not gonna happen this year.

The reason why I say this is because if the description of the Broncos uniforms that we have seen is legit, I can imagine some fans just liking it anyway, as is always the case with something new and fresh, but there will be a lot of visible discontent. In general, the white-heavy look seems gimmicky and overdone, especially with the obnoxious "icey fresh" jargon we have seen with the color in football in  recent years. The Broncos did a fan survey at the beginning of this process, and I can tell you without even looking at the results that they were in no way reflective of what they have (allegedly) decided to go with, just knowing as a Broncos fan myself. Seems like its a ripe opportunity to get fans to cash in on the early hype with a trendy new set, have them grow old of it quickly, and then bring back a throwback look full time to rake in even more money. It's easier to convince fans to get new jerseys if they are actually a new product, and not just carried over to a new brand or template.

I don't want to rush to conclusions just because we haven't seen what the Broncos new uniforms will look like, but given recent design trends and how they've been received, it just seems like Nike and the NFL have found a way to get fans to spend more on jerseys through planned obsolescence. And again, this may all just be all crazy talk, but there has to be an explanation for all the new designs that we already know will be outdated and tired within a few years.

I don't think they purposely design bad new uniforms to be obsolete in 5 years...BUT I have had this theory that they make existing uniforms look a little wonky in hopes that the teams will want a redesign.

Ex: the Saints color rush uniforms look much tighter than their primary uniforms. Their primaries always look a little bit "off".

Also, I'm tired of everyone parroting their line about "xx% lighter/engineered/etc". It's simple: every millimeter of fabric saved, every patch printed, every fabric swapped is multiplied by millions. It's not bad enough they pay slave wages, More for the bottom line. We complain for a few weeks and then just eat the slop.

FWIW I think NBA Authentic jerseys (now) are good quality and feel like a well thought out garment. It has zonal ventilation and nice quality embellishments, finished with a rubber/silicone nba logo. MLB quality just looks a mess.

And I hate to admit it but i've come around to the truncated shoulder stripes.

Oddly enough all jersey trim is  placed over the jersey body and sewn on as opposed to it being separate from it. Which is the opposite of what nike did in baseball. They went from trim on top of fabric to separate trim - and so far it does not look good.

I think it was Eric Bodamer who designed for Adidas/NHL who said that when Adidas took over the league they took into account how fans perceive the look and feel of authentic jerseys. You don't want a heavy jersey, but you want embroidery and twill and just overall materials that feel substantial.

It should be easy to understand how and why there are people who don't like the kit, it's not like they haven't stated the reasons for that. The colour mismatch between the logos and the shirt, the use of too many shades of green and blue, the main sponsor, the shade of green used, that it's supposed to be a 50th anniversary kit yet doesn't really hark back to the NASL kits the team wore, the solid green back, the "retro for retro sake" design that doesn't recall the NASL kits and the striping layout and colours are all reasons given to why people don't like the kit.

They stated multiple times that it's a modern interpretation of past sounders kits. Pinstripes from '83, dark green and light blue from '74. Solid green back is a rule, not a choice.

Also the green is supposed to be the updated rave green. I think the photography and different materials may just make it look a little bit off.

They made no mention of it in the kit unveiling, but within Adidas Seattle’s new kit is apparently dubbed “The Macklemore Kit”. It helps to explain the nauseating stripes and the ridiculous hipster shoot. This is straight from the head of club football apparel at Adidas:

Now why didn’t the club make mention of it during the unveiling? Probably because they’re saving it for a future tie-in or someone within the club realized how embarrassing it was.

It could be a conflict of interest being that he has his own clothing line and it didn't clear through legal?

I feel like a hipster shoot is appropriate for Seattle, y'all are probably the third most hipster club behind Portland and Austin.

Idk how this kit is getting any hate, it might be the best of the season for me. Looks like a very classic kit but the colors are uniquely Seattle. I thought they hit it out of the park. Even the promo photos are really high fashion in a good way.

  17. Is anybody else surprised that the new jerseys didn't carry over the same diagonal texture pattern from the WC template?

I was fully expecting to see that with the new releases. I guess its a slightly different template.

I'm praying for Fanatics' downfall. They've been a walking disaster in this market.

It rubs me the wrong way when Michael Rubin has these extravagant parties with people dressed in high end clothes meanwhile Mitchell & Ness no longer uses actual stitches in their jerseys, just a single layer nearly transparent fake tackle twill while charging more.

The M&N quality has gone so far downhill. At least the fanatics branded fan jerseys never had a reputation of quality.

I'm not a huge hockey guy, but I don't have high expectations for the new gear.

Even this small change with the striping could've helped with the Namath era uniforms

This is great. I never understood why reebok/nike/etc insisted on the triple w/g/w shoulder stripes, when it just needed to be one stripe insert paired with capped sleeves.

Random gripe: I wish more teams went the Raiders route with widened TV numbers. Every team that doesn't, especially in the Nike area is left with tiny numbers that look like little stickers.

I wish the Cardinals lies had been Cardinals truths. That sounded like such an interesting set.

Did we ever get to the bottom of that?

I know we had legitimate sources/info...was it something that was on the table and scrapped?

Did any legitimate leaks come from that?

I'm still curious as to what that would've looked like.

2016 was definitely a rough year in terms of uniforms (and in terms of the play on the field) because it was just all over the place with a bunch of one-offs and a lack of a consistent design direction. 2017 was better, but still sort of a mishmash of different pieces. Although the 2018 set had its issues (numbers that were too large and an insistence on mono combos), that really was the start of the Ducks getting back on track. Last year’s set fixed the issues of the 2018 set, and was essentially getting back to the basics, while also retaining some flashy elements like the winged helmets and the unique number treatment. I suspect the next set will be a bit flashier and more experimental, but the current set was/is a necessary retreat back to something simpler and more cohesive IMO. Last year they actually wore 12 different combos in 14 games, and they were all what I would describe as “good” combos (some better than others, but all good). Last year they essentially rebuilt their uniform foundation, with tasteful mixing and matching and a set that was fairly simple and cohesive. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I can tell you that for most Ducks fans we are pretty satisfied with the current direction, with the hope that they’ll build on the current set and get back to something that’s not as barebones but that is still cohesive and unified. Just for fun, here’s a chart showing all the combos worn last season:

    spacer.png

Now I will say I absolutely agree with @oldschoolvikings that they need to focus more on the apple green and yellow, and wear the dark green or black sparingly in comparison. I don’t agree that they should get rid of those colors altogether, though.

I actually like the nightmare green but i won't argue that bright yellow and kelly green is arguably the best color combo in college football.

But i do like how cohesive this new set is. They finally gathered their footing and aren't trying to reinvent the wheel anymore and instead are just focusing on what works for them. The seasons following the Mariota years were dark and frustrating from a uniform pov.

But now, if they wanted to pair nightmare green with kelly it wouldn't look all that out of place if done right. I like the simplicity of just letting their unique color scheme speak for itself (granted i loved the tonal wings they wore in the rose bowl prior to the inaugural playoff).
