  1. I get that the athletics money does eventually trickle down to academics, but even with weaker academics, Boise State would be a natural fit for the PAC-10 and a win-win for both the school and the conference. Boise State is right there in PAC-10 country, they already have a rivalry going with Oregon, they draw big ratings, wrestling is already in the PAC-10 and they have a consistently winning football program (plus a vastly-improving basketball program), which increases the prestige of the PAC-10.

Plus, the school gets an even bigger stage in an AQ conference, and since college athletics can be seen as a form of advertising for universities, Boise can use it to advertise more, get more students to come, and since PAC-10 money is a much bigger amount than WAC money, more money can eventually trickle down to the school's academics.

Bottom line is, if the PAC-10 really wanted Boise State, they could make it work without even considering academics, despite their academic chest-thumping. Besides, every FBS school can't be Stanford or Vanderbilt.

  2. If Boise's academics are that far below PAC-10 standards, then please explain how they're already a member of the PAC-10 in wrestling. Yes, I realize it's a non-revenue sport, but if the PAC-10 is really that strict about academics, schools like Boise State would be left out in every sport, revenue or non-revenue, right?

Of course, that reminds me of how stupid it is for schools to be able to join a conference for only one sport. If I ran the NCAA, there would be an "all or nothing" rule in regards to that - either take all the schools' sports, or take none of them at all. Cherry-picking just creates needless complications and confusion.

  3. And before any Boise fan comes in here complaining, get better academically and then maybe you can talk with the Pac 10.

Oh no, not this condescending bullcrap.

Thank you! It's not about academics, that's as much of a fraud as the idea of the "student athlete" in this day and age. It's about money. TCU's football budget is in the $20 million range, Boise's is in the $6 million range (and that's being generous).

  4. Slavery was widespread in Massachusetts, among other eastern states.

Actually, in Massachusetts and New England as a whole, the rockier soil meant that farming was mainly for sustenance because growing your own food was tough enough without growing an endless amount of cash crops too. The lack of true commercial farming discouraged the start of plantations in New England and New Englanders turned to codfishing as a primary industry. Rhode Island was involved in the Triangle Trade for slaves but IIRC, they were sold or traded to southern plantations.

And in the Middle Colonies, the atmosphere of equality and democracy led to a widespread anti-slavery sentiment.

But yeah, how 'bout them uniforms?

  5. For the 6th time, we (you and me specifically) aren't supposed to be arguing on the forums, as per moderators request. But, since you responded to something I posted (which wasn't directed at you at all)

And for the 6th time, that's not true, we were asked to stop the mosque argument. Please stop bringing out that old line everytime your views are debated.

...At the expense of behaving like tyrants towards the natives, on the natives' land.

The damage to the Indians was done long, long before the Constitution - from the early fighting in Jamestown to King Philip's War in New England. Therefore the Founders aren't at fault for English/Indian tension.

    See: slavery.

    Not in the east.

WTF is your obsession with the mental hospital these days? I didn't go to one. You're very misinformed anyway if you think a mental hospital lets those in need of their help out after two days.

  6. I mean when it comes down to it, they are generating profit and success for themselves by exploiting masses of people, and doing so illegally.

Did you learn any American history at all in school? The Founding Fathers were all about freeing Americans from English tyranny and creating a small republican government that wouldn't act exactly like the king did. As far as profits were concerned, they wanted people to be able to keep the fruits of their labors, but they weren't interested in sucking every dollar out of Americans to make money like you're suggesting.

Granted, some of the Founding Fathers owned slaves which would fall under the exploiting people part of your statement, but that has nothing to do with their motives for breaking away from England.

  7. Randall Cunningham always looked out-of-place in a Vikings uniform to me, as well. Let's face it, the Eagles will always be his real team.

One of my favorite QB's of all time, but I'm a sucker for multiple-threat quarterbacks - I also liked Kordell Stewart even though I hate the Steelers, and I like Michael Vick other than the whole dogfighting thing.

    Speaking of Kordell...

  8. Ok, honestly.. at this point, I think a lot of these posts are hyperbole. Or just who can come up with the most absurd/ugly uni they can find and then claim they "loved" it just for the sake of being (in their mind) funny.

I actually like all those Ducks jerseys, first of all. The Wild Wing in particular is so outrageous and bizarre that it's actually good.

Second of all, this is the "Unpopular Opinions" thread. What were you expecting, popular ones?

  9. Sorry but the powder blue Chargers jerseys are crap.

    Sacrilege! :P

Seriously, how can you hate these beauties:

They need to be the full-time home uniforms.

Back on topic - more unpopular opinions of mine:

? I hate the Yankees' whole uniform set. Same goes for the Colts, Cowboys, Raiders, Penn State, Alabama, and the Lakers.

? Gold really works with the Celtics.

? Teams that refuse to use alternate uniforms or participate in uni-related special events are really just being pretentious. There's no good reason why the Yankees can't have fun with their look (for example - when they refused to take part in TATC), other than the very self-congratulatory reason of "tradition."
