LSU wearing purple jerseys with gold pants today against Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

I know, I know tradition and all, but man LSU’s purple jerseys are such a great look and should be worn more often. I hate LSU, but it’s always a welcomed surprise to see them in the proper purple uniforms.

It would take a long time to look  and confirm but this may be the only time LSU has worn purple in a bowl game.

  2. I think the 17th game should be altered a bit. You could do crosstown  or instate rivalry automatically every year like Jets Giants, Bucs Fins, Texans Cowboys. I would also suggest if not a designate rival have the game played at a neutral site and not just England. Why cant the Steelers play at State College? Or the Seahawks play in Vancouver?  You could also test future potential markets if you ever were to expand like Austin, San Antonio etc.

Allegiant Stadium most likely needed a roof that wasn't clear because of it being in Las Vegas. The desert heat would have cooked the players and the crowd. It's funny how Sofi Stadium has a translucent roof that isn't even connected to the building, so there's no air conditioning and they have to worry about the LA heat. That's what Stan Kroenke gets for being a dork.

Also, the natural light gets in Allegiant just fine in my opinion.

Also the complaints about the Superdome being dark is funny because I loved how dark and grungy the Oakland Coliseum use to look for night games.

I was just at Allegiant Stadium for the first time a few weeks ago for Jets Raiders. When you look at the roof it looks like shiny plastic especially at night.  Although it is not as great as the US Bank and SoFi roof atleast it is bringing some sort of light, it isn't like you are sitting in the super dome you can get a feel for what time of day it is. The one touch that separates it from the teflon dome is the window that allows you to look at the vegas skyline.  The roll in grass is a great feature but I have to say it stunk like onion grass. As far as the Raiders field paint looks I understand they use their official font in their end zones but I always felt this font was way more on brand for them. spacer.png

I’m very intrigued and curious about this. Is it green in general that they hate, or the particular shade as opposed to other greens? Or something else about it?

This is all 100% coming from a place of pure curiosity, as I’m mostly just surprised to hear of a team’s traditional primary color that gets flak from its fanbase. I haven’t heard many cases of that before and would love to understand why that is (or see if I’m misunderstanding this altogether, which is totally possible haha).

I think it is the new shade of "Gotham Green".  When we were hunter green nobody seemed to make a stink until it looked like army green with the new nike template. As far as  the gotham green I don't mind it but find it looks different depending on lighting. Without a doubt when I go to games the gotham green jerseys are rarely seen amongst the fans. The entire look as a whole just reminds us all of the Gase years.

I also hate that the black jersey and pants are a thing for the Jets, but do we wonder if the Jets rarely wear the green jerseys because it doesn't match the helmet green?

As a Jets fan I can tell you the fanbase hates the green. Whenever Woody tweets about uniforms everyone moans and groans everytime we are set to wear green. I assume the only reason we wore them vs the Eagles was oddly so they could not claim our color at home? Just speculation. Lets just hope we bring back  the 80s set full time. Personally the only aspects of the current uniform I dislike is the "new york" on the front and the pant striping.

It was already mentioned that the Giants will be wearing their Color Rush throwbacks against the Bills, but I didn’t see anyone mention that they’ll actually be going with the proper throwback navy shells:

Last year they still wore the royal helmets with the CR uni despite having the throwback navy lids in the rotation:

Now if they could just wear blue socks…

The Navy helmets are gross. They are so dark they almost look black and they don't match any other part of the color rush or the throwback uniform.

Black/gray/gray. The black lids have the same white buff decals that they wore against Nebraska, while the “new” gray jerseys are really just their old Elite 51 tops with white numbers and white NOB’s put on them.

I wonder if they stripped the old numbers from last years uniforms and put on white ones or just purchased new ones. Does nike even make this template anymore?

There are some stadiums around the world that use giant grow lights that they roll onto the field. That could be an option.  Tottenham's new stadium has them integrated to where they don't even have to be rolled, which could maybe be standard in stadiums moving forward.  I don’t know what would be involved in installing such a system in existing stadiums would be or if it's possible at all.

I think something like this would have to be utilized. Reliant in Houston used to bring grass in on trays but those also presented their own issues. I know the Rogers Centre tried to have grass about 5 years ago but it wasn't plausible due to the concrete floor. I assume a few other indoor stadiums like the Superdome might face this issue. I think it would have to be weighed if the tray system is safer than turf. I agree every stadium should have grass, but growing up in the 2000's  everyone always wanted to play on field turf. The real horror stories were from the astroturf days.

No, the goal was to get it closer to the team's official shade of blue, Panthers Blue (or Process Blue), that Nike was unable to properly recreate when the NFL made the switch in the early 2010s, whenever it was. Presumably Reebok had been able to properly produce Panthers blue so the new blue jerseys look more like the pre-Nike set.

May be just lighting but I think last years blue looks closer to the  Reebok blue than the current blue. Could need to take a look at the color palette though.

And against the Lions, who have very similar colors. They seem to view it as primarily a *home-team-is-wearing-white* uniform these days, regardless of whether the heat is a factor or not. I miss when they'd wear them at home in the regular season either in primetime or in late October:

Is it just me or is the blue  from last season closer to the reebok electric blue? Wasn't the goal to do the opposite?spacer.png

Seems to me like all teams should have a current H/A set and a throwback H/A set.

    Just makes things easier

I think this would also help in situations like the Jets where we have two different helmets that are pretty equally beloved by fans. The bills could also keep the standing Buffalo alt and their red helmet. Im sure there are many other examples like the Chargers, WFT, and others but this was what came to mind first.

They didn't wear these ^^^ throwbacks in that game, but what they wore was better than the current throwback. They stopped wearing the gray facemask after the 1979 season.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I know all throwbacks with block numbers and stripes look good but at a certain point it gets repetitive. Thats why I have always preferred the logo on jersey sleeves. I think the best solution is the Cowboys stripe stripe with the star on their navy jerseys.

  13. As a Jets fan the entire fanbase is hankering for this full time and I think Woody is going to bend. In my opinion I think they would slide the Jets logo in between the sleeve stripes similar to how the Bears use GSH. I could also see the current number font transferring over. If it were up to me I would go back to the 2000's uniforms with the current green but as long as they ditch the awful stripes on their pants and jerseys i'm sold.  Also the NEW YORK on the front is terrible. Also nothing against your concept but my one gripe with the throwback is I think the pant stripe stinks.

Sans helmet, I do really like the Colts new jersey. It has a good place amongst alternates. I hope it sticks around for a while.

Every part of me wants to hate the Colts alt but for some reason I love them. I also love the Lions lanky lion helmets but they look awful with the charcoal uni.

I'd add the Niners too, since the throwbacks they wore for their last Super Bowl win had some significant differences from their usual look.

Yes but that was just a rare situation where they kind of ran with the NFL 75th anniversary promotion. Their primaries that year and the year after were the classic unit they won the other 4 super bowls in.

Just to back up with the Jets throwbacks, it is nice to get the 80s and 90s logo on the helmet and overall it looks great. The bad news is, that's now guaranteed to be two less opportunities for the Jets to actually wear any green below the neck right off the bat and the throwbacks don't replace the black alt. So already down to just 5 times the Jets might actually wear their actual primary color, and you know if they get off to a fast start they're gonna ride the WAH once again like they did last year

For green tack on at Dallas and likely at Cleveland when they wear their White throwbacks. I don't know what the rules are because they always change but right now they listed 2 Legacy games Vs Buffalo and KC as well as, Black Friday Blacks vs Miami.

Why does that argument apply to some teams and not others?

Not arguing but making a point  how many teams have  won a super bowl in two distinctly different looks? I'm not talking the Packers  different sleeve stripes or the Steelers block numbers. The Giants and Rams are the only teams that come to mind and I'd even consider the Rams a modern take on the 99 look. At the very least no franchise has won a super bowl in two different helmet colors. Most of this is championships being won by historic organizations who prioritize history over fads.

Yeah I don't get why the Titans are doing this either. This seems like throwback for throwback's sake. At least with the other teams they're bringing back looks from their past that fans and their city have connected with. The Tennessee Oilers were a complete joke that couldn't get anyone in the state to care about them until they moved into a new stadium and rebranded as the Titans.

To me it seems like they are doing it just so the Texans cant lay claim to the identity in any way. How will they look now if they introduce a faux back similar to these?

  19. 2 hours ago, DCarp1231 said:

Should be, but doesn’t mean it’s better.

This is where we have the battle of historical accuracy vs looks. I think the Giants throwbacks look terrible because the helmet is so dark it almost looks black.

On a retail site that sells a lot of mini and full size hemets.  Five new alternate helmets and two tribute helmets are available for pre-order. No images yet though, just “coming soon” place holder graphics.  The alternates are for the Broncos (confirmed), Eagles (confirmed), Lions (confirmed), and Browns and Colts (confirmed by Andrew Lind).

The other helmets labeled  “tribute” are the Bears’ striped helmet (current shell with throwback stripe decals) and the Dolphins throwback helmet (current shell with throwback decals).

Sounds like there will be more than seven new alternate/throwback/tribute helmets, as the “coming soon” selection doesn’t include Buccaneers, Seahawks, and Titans/Oilers, and maybe others.

I still wonder if we are going to get this Jets "Tribute" helmet with a throwback uniform. Seems late to hear this little murmurs.
