If the Wizards change their name, all of their big 4 sports teams will have a Washington-esque identity.

Also it is kind of interesting that everyone other than the Capitals changed their name at some point. Bullets--> Wizards, Senators---> Nats different franchise but you catch my drift and now this.

Except we know that's not the case because of the material that got released from Washington's proposed 2009 rebrand. For example:

These proposed alternates, which are now 13 years old, already had a lot of the same ideas as the Commanders' new uniforms. All three options obviously have BFBS. Option 1 has stripeless pants. Option 2 has an oversized wordmark on the front (like their new home jersey), stripeless one-color socks, and pants stripes that are similar to their new home jersey's sleeve stripes (thick outlines, thin center). Option 3 has a pointless collarbone patch like their new alternate jersey. And this whole process was playing out with Reebok, not Nike. Different manufacturer, different designers, same franchise, same owner, similar results.

I have a hard time believing that Snyder would let Nike do whatever they want without meddling when he won't even let his own football executives do that. In general, I don't think the ultra-wealthy egomaniacs who own most NFL teams can resist the opportunity to put their stamp on their team's new uniforms, even if the result flat-out sucks because they have no taste and/or no idea how graphic design works. As a former Chargers fan, you should remember the decades that the Chargers spent wearing boring navy uniforms because the Spanos family hated powder blue and they didn't care what the fans wanted. I think that's the kind of mindset at play most of the time in these uniform changes.

I have to say that set on the left is better than any of the uniforms in the new set. In other news im deeply going to miss the split stripe. God knows why they couldnt just have that on the pants, jerseys, socks, and even the helmets it was an iconic look. Was thinking they couldve just did the DC flags on the sleeves instead too. Oh well you get what you get.

I am actually glad they did not go with anything that starts with 'R' to further distance from the old name. I know the military motif can be an eye roller, but really, it's the nation's capital so it blends in. It would be great if the President shows up for the next Kansas City at Washington game.

What does it matter if they went with Redhogs?  Changing the name is distancing it from the own name I mean lets not act like its not the same exact franchise in the same stadium with the same colors. Changing a name doesn't blank anyones memory.

  4. I feel like these sets every team moved towards just mashing up generations which is an interesting concept. Outside of the sixers nothing really reflected anything in the city like they had in the past. Also surprised to see the Lakers ditch the legacy uniforms as they still had not made a jersey for Jerry West, Kareem, George Mikan, or James Worthy.

2002 (Black jersey and black pants with stripes introduced. Black pants paired with all three jerseys. Worn for next two seasons. Team also alters collar for NFL Equipment logo.)

It is madness that they used to play on astroturf. Have to think that contributes a great deal to CTE

I think the Jets new uniforms have actually really grown on me. Besides the status quo logo change and BFBS (that I can live with), I think it's an upgrade over the butchered Namath-shoulders and ugly shade of green...

As a Jets Fan I am very indifferent about these uniforms. I think in the right lighting the colors look amazing. Particularly that matchup against the Rams but the New York on the chest is just downright corny.

I guess we agree to disagree. B)  As I think the yellow from LSU would have been nice looking within the black end zones.

But then we agree on the fact that the Superdome seems to HATE painted end zones. They seem to never have them painted in. Laziness, I guess.

The only time they ever paint them is for a super bowl. I cant think of anywhere else that refuses to paint them. Even the old georgia dome painted them when it was their chance to host a playoff semifinal.

Worth mentioning that this game was originally scheduled for last night, so the plan was for them to be worn for a night game. I do wish we could’ve seen them under the lights, but they still look absolutely gorgeous even in the overcast Eugene skies today. I truly believe these are the best one-off uniforms (excluding throwbacks) that they’ve ever worn. Certainly not the best uniform in general, but I think they’re the most thoughtfully and meticulously designed one-offs they’ve ever had. The details are absolutely spectacular, and the design as a whole is just special IMO. Here are some good pics from the game:

I’ve said before that I really like their current regular set, but I definitely do hope to see some more flashiness like these Ohana uniforms with their next set. Just find a good balance between the simplicity of their current regular set and the flashiness of these Ohana uniforms.

Seahawks should use this shade of green.

Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium are still among the best stadiums in the league despite also being some of the oldest. Renovate, Don't Annihilate is the best path.

I agree but for the majority of the stadiums being replaced in baseball were multi-purpose stadiums or just stadiums that reached the end of their road due to improper care like Comiskey Park. The last two cases of new ballparks in ATL and Dallas were forced as well as the Mercedes Benz stadium.

Hey, it’s better than demanding a new stadium all the time. Heck, I’m pretty sure this is how most clubs in Europe handle their stadium situations. They’ll work with the old building as long as you can, getting into a Theseus’ Ship situation after about fifty years of doing this.

  11. I do not know if this is unpopular for sure but the Tennessee Titans should have kept their name the Oilers even in Tennessee.  That was one of the best brands in the history of sports and it is a shame it is no longer used. They could have even switched to the name Titans with the original colors.
