Nike had its beginnings in pro sports in the 80s (I think Edmonton Oilers wore Nike jerseys in the 80s), then a huge push in college sports in early-mid-90s, but its real push didn’t come until 1997, as it saw what Wilson, Champion, Starter, and Russell Athletics were doing.
And because of the success of its shoes, it had the money to invest in uniforms. I wonder if seeing Jordan wear Reebok uniforms during the Barcelona Olympics compelled them to get more involved with uniforms.

The '59s might be my favorite Sox uniform of all time, but I wouldn't want them becoming a regular alternate, given their similarity to the team's everyday home uniforms. The 1917 set looks completely different yet still distinctly "White Sox."
Yep, I agree. That’s why it will probably never be used as an alternate. Too close to the current brand.
That said, I wouldn’t be upset if they modernized these and brought them back as either a Sunday fauxback or a new primary set.

Gimme these:

Agreed. Monochrome navy is a great look for the Cubs; never mind the fact that they wear their royal blue alternates with pinstriped pants as it is.
In spring training, yes. But since the Ricketts took over they’ve worn the blue at home maybe five times.

The Saints and Niners should swap shades of gold. I always liked the more silvery-gold the Niners wore in the 80s, and the Saints need the more vibrant shade like the gold on their color rush.

Do you think the browns just may be doing an alternate helmet with numbers on the side again? I think any departure from an orange helmet will be too much of a culture shock. Their helmet logo is no logo and their graphics usually is the helmet. I mean how many people actually know they wore a white helmet? I can see them reviving their throwbacks cause the bengals had to revive their old color rush to use their white helmet. I don’t see so much a brown helmet, but who knows. Maybe they go brown with an orange grill. The nfl made this helmet rule weird. I think the saints and panthers both wanted a blackout, one got it and the other got a Franken-throwback
If the Bears can wear orange helmets, nothing is off limits.

I came here just to post this.
No way it means nothing. These events are highly choreographed.

The Eagles need a change so badly. But another SB berth in this set - and maybe a second win - probably kills that possibility. The “midnight” or whatever they call the green is so drab and lifeless.

The Cubs’ road grays were designed to go with a red-brimmed hat. The blue wordmark/name and red numbers look awkward without it.
I’d like to see the old road hat return, and for the Cubs to redesign the blue alt. Nix the NL logo, put the walking bear on the left sleeve and add the cap logo to the left breast. Then for a Sunday home alt, bring back the 80s road uniforms. Done and dusted.

The teal and white have the same fonts
Nope. The teal is effectively a throwback to before they tweaked the uniforms. It’s a different font treatment.

Yikes. The M’s have such a mismatched set. The home whites have one font treatment, the road blues another, and the teal yet another. And then the alt fauxback has a different color scheme. Not good.

Is it an unpopular opinion to say these are vastly better than the “classic” set? I also think they should create a pants stripe with the sleeve pattern. It’d really complete the uniform.

All the Commanders had to do was use the old uniforms with the current helmet. They wouldn’t have been #fresh or #icy or #fire, but they would’ve had good uniforms.
Instead, their mascot is now better dressed than their players.

Why is this (ridiculous) Commanders mascot wearing the old uniform?

Half of the board will love this, the other half will hate it.

I’d be surprised if Tennessee ever wears the orange lids again after how the South Carolina game went.

I wish the B’s would bring them back as an occasional alternate for special occasions and Original 6 games.

When I play against the Twins next year in The Show, they will never use the M cap. I love the rest.

There it is. Orange socks included.

The Bears’ orange helmets are a big deal in Chicago.
