Don’t know if anyone is watching the US-Ghana friendly, but they are dominating Ghana who just look utterly outclassed.
Berhalter is finally playing Gio centrally behind Balo and flanked by Pulisic and Weah which I feel like we’ve been begging to see for a while and it’s exactly as good as we thought it’d be. It began with the first half of the Germany game, and it’s continued through the first half of this game, but it’s clear as day that the US needs to start Gio as the 10 every single game.
Credit to Berhalter for actually trying it out and sticking with it. The US has looked better in these two games (the first halves primarily) while playing the 4-2-3-1 than they have at any other point with Berhalter as the coach. -

What the hell was that before halftime? He's just not used to having timeouts, so he doesn't understand how to use them.
He’s prematurely using all of his timeouts in the second half.
Can’t have poor time clock management if you have no timeouts to use - Probably Mike McCarthy
EDIT: No need to make a second post. Dak was sensational tonight despite McCarthy and Gallup actively working for the opps. Defense showed up on the final two plays, specifically Micah and Gilmore.
McCarthy needs to give up play calling. Hopefully that change will happen in the bye week (it won’t).

Probably. At the very least I thought it.
There's no denying that he's had a good record as a head coach. But seeing him week-to-week there were always concerns. One if his most notable 'flaws' was his insistence on trying for a big play too often when he was facing a third and short. His explanation was that it was a favorable matchup and it should work.
If I heard his crutch buzzwords 'pad level' and 'we're gonna fix that' one more time ... well, it was too late for that
He also had his famous quote when asked a question that begged for a better explanation "Well, I am a pretty successful NFL coach'.
I had to come back to this tonight because Mike McCarthy, once again, is calling a horrendous game. He’s costing the Cowboys points with his abysmal ability to call plays.
I think he’s fine as a head coach (not the worst but not the best), but he needs to give up play calling if the Cowboys want to have any hope this season. It should have been a massive red flag that he only managed to win one Super Bowl with one of the greatest QB’s ever.

Were you the one who wanted me about McCarthy when he became the Cowboys Head Coach? His play calling was horrendous tonight. Just awful, awful, awful.

49ers are clearly the cream of the crop
They should be far and away the Super Bowl favorites. The Cowboys limited McCaffrey to arguably his worst game as Niner, Aiyuk and Deebo were relatively held in check and the 49ers still won by 32 because of their ridiculous elsewhere talent lmao -
I love Dak, and I think he’s good enough to win a lot in this league, but the Cowboys need to pair him with a play caller that makes it easy for him similar to how Shannon does for his QB’s. He’s not a force multiplier, meaning a QB who will elevate the play of his teammates, but he needs help schematically (McCarthy has called a poor game tonight too).
He also just hasn’t looked consistently good since the awful leg break in 2020. He’s lost his throwing power and his mobility.
Cowboys need to have a conversation after this season about Dak going forward, and more than likely McCarthy too. Can’t be consistently outclassed at QB and HC and hope to win a Super Bowl.

I don’t think this says as much about the Cowboys as it does the 49ers. This Niners team is probably one of the best teams I’ve ever seen.
To be fair, they are really good but it’s also a matchup thing with these two. The 49ers are just a stylistic match up nightmare for Dallas.
Watch when the Eagles play the Niners and how much better they’ll play versus San Francisco because they match up way better with them than the Cowboys do.

I had this as a Cowboys loss before the season started, but man I thought they’d show some more fight and be more effective. They are playing worse than the Divisional Game last year.
Maybe the 49ers are truly the Cowboys kryptonite or boogeyman. They’re the only team to have consistently made the Cowboys look this bad in the last 3 years.

With a sentence I’ve only ever heard on a FIFA video game, Newcastle United beat PSG in a Champions League match.

Wanna re-think that one?
Nahh. Dallas always has at least one stinker every year against a team they should have handedly beat. The Cowboys are still very good and going to be one of the best teams by the end of the season.
That game was a true stinker though. All-around. They were missing crucial 3 starters on the OL including two future HOF’s, but still they played terribly. No excuse for the defense either. Credit to Arizona because they played really well, but Dallas also played poorly.
If the Cowboys have a few more games like that throughout the year, then I’ll rethink it but as of now, I can’t change my opinion based on one poor game in September.

As a Niners fan, I'd like to do the same for my team.
The semi-home opener was a pretty decent win for the Niners. The Rams certainly have more spunk to them than the Steelers, but I'd wait on calling the Niners a legitimate contender. Purdy is gonna have some regression to the mean (as we kind of saw yesterday) and the injury bug will return, it's just a matter of when.
For me, I have zero issues calling the Niners legitimate contenders. Their biggest question mark, IMO, is the QB. I still don’t really trust Purdy to make the throws that are needed in big time moments in the playoffs, but the rest of the roster is super nasty. Just loaded with talent all over.
A lot can change over the course of the season but the 49ers and Cowboys are clearly the two best teams in the league currently. They both just look like a step above everyone else.
I’m really excited for that upcoming Week 5 showdown. Both teams should be 4-0 heading into that game and the Cowboys really need to have a good showing against the Niners (who are kinda of their boogeyman/kryptonite at this point).

Well, that settles it. Cancel the rest of the season and just give them the trophy.
Works for me, that way we can avoid the usual Cowboys’ January playoff collapse.- 1

The Cowboys have allowed the 2nd fewest points through two games ever in their franchise history. Utterly ridiculous start defensively.
I know they haven’t played the stiffest competition yet and it is only just Week 2, but for the first time in my lifetime the Cowboys not only look like one of the clear top 2 or 3 teams in the league, but there’s an argument to be had that they are the best team in the NFL.
I’ve never had reality and my usual blind Cowboys homerism be this close to each other in terms of accuracy.

It feels utterly bizarre to have a consistently good Cowboys’ team from year to year. What a way to start the season and what a statement made tonight.
FYI, Micah Parsons is going to win DPOY this season.

He's the backup. The speculation I read on PFT is that this gives Dallas another option if next year's required* renegotion with Prescott doesn't go well.
*Required in that his cap number would be BIG
Always take Florio's word/opinion on anything with a grain of salt.
Word from the Cowboys' beat writers is that internally they hope Trey Lance can become Dak's backup instead of Cooper Rush. Hypothetically, if Dak had to miss some games because of an injury, the thought is that the offense under Lance wouldn't look that different from Dak (meaning they wouldn't have to limit the playbook) whereas they can't run the same offense under Rush. Obviously this is about the future as Trey is clearly QB3 at the moment.
Basically the Cowboys simply took a flyer on a player who they rated highly because he still has a lot of upside in terms of potential and there is almost no downside because they only spent a 4th rounder to get him.

The AFC lost 13 straight SBs in the 80s/90s.
I know this stat is correct, but it still baffles me that a streak like that ever happened between the two conferences. Even through the AFC's relative dominance over the NFC during the late 90's and early 00's, that kind of streak never really came close to being repeated.
