  1. The NFL has sent University of Houston cease and desist letters related to the Cougars' "Luv ya Blue" inspired uniforms and merchandise. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/college/article/nfl-tells-uh-cease-and-desist-oilers-jerseys-18455963.php
  2. College basketball is a huge priority for the shoe companies. Its why programs like UCLA and Kansas get apparel deals well beyond schools that are just strong in football. But you're right that the track program usually gets no say. At Texas A&M, the track coach was able to negotiate staying with Nike for T&F while the rest of A&M sports are with Adidas as he felt Nike's track shoes were far superior.
  3. I hate how the NBA strongly urged teams to have a basketball in some form in so many of their logos. 23 of 30 NBA teams have a basketball in their primary logo.
  4. That doesn't seem like it but there could be a filter on the image throwing the colors off. The Rockets already did an oilers tribute uniform. I can't tell what these are paying homage to. I don't recognize the font from anything locally related. EDIT: I saw a guess on reddit that it may be a tribute to University of Houston Phi Slama Jama
  5. You're right that maroon pants would have looked nice to clash against Arkansas' white pants. The maroon pants were shown in the graphics when this uniform set was unveiled, but everyone was under the impression they never got busted out due to supply chain issues in 2020. Now I'm suspecting they never were an option and we're just stuck with white pants until Jimbo decides to do something special, which could be never. I like that we have toned down our alternate looks since the Sumlin days, but it would be nice to have maroon pants to wear on the road or a white helmet again.
  6. More looks at Rice's Oilers uniforms
  7. Georgia Tech unveiled black glow in the dark uniforms called their "Ghost uniforms." As a kid a I always thought GT was a black and gold school so I was confused when they started wearing navy accents.
  8. The Oilers did play at both UH and Rice prior to moving to the Astrodome so I'm ok with both teams honoring the team they used to share a home with. Now all Houston needs is the Astros to come out with columbia blue alternates and we'll officially have every team in town having worn that color or something close to it at some point.
  9. It definitely isnt going to be an orange jersey for this weekend as they are on the road against A&M and I'd bet my house on A&M wearing maroon jerseys saturday.
  10. herder to peel off a sticker and make it part of a trading card for the league to profit off of
  11. Everton third kit which is meant to celebrate Hummel's 100th anniversary by copying elements from Denmark's 1986 world cup kit.
  12. Its PJ Fleck's fault. He likes to make his teams have as many alternate looks as possible and to insert HIS brand into the program rather than let the team represent the school.
  13. Mississippi State to wear 1998 throwbacks against Kentucky for homecoming
  14. New Purdue uniforms. They look like copies of the Drew Brees era unforms from 2001
  15. Clean solid looking uniform. My only gripe is the fact that chose to put the city name as the main identifying feature of their uniform when they havent had a team in over 80 years. I get it. Its the same thing that SMU has done with their Dallas alternate uniforms. But you would think you would want the name of your school on your jersey if you're going to have a wordmark at all. Especially when you havent had a football uniform since just after WW2. Its not like Centenary will ever be on TV and Shreveport residents will see the jerseys and think, "Hey, this is my hometown team."
  16. Did they just look at USF's choices from the past decade and said "GIVE ME ALL OF THAT!!!!"
  17. Hold on, they removed the bridge because it reminded fans of traffic? LOL I'm glad its gone for the reasons you previously mentioned in that it has nothing to do with Zydeco. I also agree Zydeco is a terrible name for a Baton Rouge based team. It just reeks of someone coming up with a brand and idea with the assumption that all of Louisiana is the same.
  18. To add on to this, in the late 80's Bud Adams demanded the Astrodome be updated to add more seating as the Astrodome previously sat 50,000 as it seating layout was more similar to Shea Stadium with the baseball outfield being the giant scoreboard. He siad if the county didnt update the stadium , he would look into moving the team. Harris County spent $67 Million to renovate the Astrodome by ripping out the scoreboard to add upper deck seating that wrapped around the entire stadium and to bring seating capacity around 60,000. 6-years later, the local area was still coming out of a oil market recession and at the same time he just dismantled the team he goes to local leaders demanding a brand new stadium. This time they told him no and he instantly had a deal struck with Nashville which resulted in the 1995 and 96 lame duck seasons where people didnt want to come watch a last place team that was leaving town. Harris County still hasnt fully paid of the $67 Million bond for the renovations to this day. In hindsight, perhaps if Adams just would have waited a few more years he probably would have gotten his new stadium as the Astros also were unhappy with the dome. I don't know any details about the financials with the Astrodome. Since the stadium was owned by the county and managed by the Astros, I wouldnt be surprised if the Oilers didn't get to keep as much ticket and concession revenue as their peers in the NFL. So financially, I get why Adams wanted his own place. But his timing and personality wore thin here in Houston.
  19. Especially with the Texans allegedly trying to adopt as much of the old Oilers colors for the upcoming new uniform. GIVE US OUR TRUE IDENTITY BACK!!!!!
  20. I'm glad the shoulder/UCLA stripes are back. I didnt realize they went away until I looked at their uniform from last year. I'm conflicted on the stripe pattern. On the blue uniform, the stripes used to be W-R-W with no gap in the colors and now they are W-B-R-B-W. The road uniform stripes match the helmet strip so thats neat, but it just looks off on the home uniform. I also miss their red helmet. It made them stand out much more than this white helmet. Below is how they should look in my mind
  21. huh, i wonder if Adidas "owns" the font since it was a Reebok creation
  22. Oh neat, a phrase no one in Tennessee ever said.
  23. And before that it was the Red River Shootout
