C David Baker basically gave a team to anyone who could pay the expansion fee regardless if they could continue running the team and what a 5-year old would expect to happen out of that did. Since then, arena football has sort of become a version of minor league football without any official relationship to professional teams.
Let's back up a little. This wasn't an ABA 2000 situation; the Arena League charged comparatively exorbitant franchise fees...which is where they got into trouble, because league revenues and franchise valuations did not come close to matching what the newer owners were kicking in. Ownership groups weren't undercapitalized though-with the possible exception of Austin.

Given that Brandlose is involved, Norwich Killer Tomatoes is almost too perfect to use.
IP's too expensive.
They'll roll with some made up bull two-word term for tomatoes.

I disagree. Having the same name as the parent club is boring and lazy to me. Having a unique branding with a local connection is great if done correctly.
And yet they rolled with Brandiose.

What about the big sky?
Big Sky's kind of big and kind of full of public schools of regional significance. Denver's academic profile isn't exactly a fit. Also no football could be an issue.

Notice that the football teams are earning roughly ONE HUNDRED MILLION more in revenue per year. Granted, football has A LOT more expenses. But even the 25th ranked team for football revenue (Texas Tech) is raking in $60m per year. And remember that schools in the Big Ten and SEC are earning about ~$50m/year just for existing. Indiana might make $23m in basketball (and an untold number from football), but just for playing in the Big Ten they rake in another $50m annually. In other words, Indiana as a Big Ten "brand" is more financially lucrative than actual Indiana Basketball.
Hush, Indiana's living-in-the-Knight-era AD might hear you.

I know that Football is the cash cow for college sports, but Baylor would be a nice addition for the Big 10 in Women's Basketball.
And the sex assault issue and related moral bankruptcy would make them a perfect fit in the B1G East.

Last year MiLB reported $70.8 million in merch sales among the 160 teams. That's an average of $442.5K per team and up from $68.3 M in 2016. Obviously not every team is not making $442.5K in merch and newer teams/names are more likely to be the ones making more than that. If you look at the top 25 teams from last year, Brandiose is responsible for 7 of the identities. I don't like a lot of their recent work, but they know what they're doing.
Query: What's Brandiose's retainer fee again?

You don't understand, those ten thousand or so one-time merchandise purchases pay the bills for a team in a gate-based revenue business that has ~70 home games a year.

Gonna assume nobody thought to sanity-check the heavy usage of outdoor activity-related fire in iconography for a place that is less than a decade removed from multiple devastating wildfires and at a time when massive devastating wildfires are in the news.
I figure that type of research is boring for Brandiose's crew of morons.

Look at the bright side... Brandiose spared us from its overdone trope of "mascot swinging random object as if it was a bat."
What do you think the prairie dog buried in the ground is doing underground?

Mexico has made the quarter-finals of the World Cup exactly twice, in 1970 when they hosted and in 1986 when they hosted. They’ve never gotten past the round of 16 outside home soil.
Sure, Croatia is a small country, but it’s a small country that’s now made two semi-finals in the six years it’s been an independent nation eligible to compete in the World Cup, and before that, it was part of Yugoslavia, which reached two semi-finals itself and six quarter-finals (well, technically five quarters plus the second group stage in 1974, which consisted of the last eight teams).
Croatia in the final is a lot more natural than Mexico in the final would be.

Barstool and Deadspin are having another dumb slapfight because Deadspin exposed the identity of PFT Commenter (he's, uh...some guy Drew Magary was friends with, it's not like the Fire Joe Morgan guy turning out to be the creator of Parks & Rec) and now all the Barstool drones are all mad about it. PFTC, to his credit, told everyone to leave the writer of the piece alone. Deadspin tried to frame it as needing to expose his name so that he can't make money for himself and for BAD PERSON Dave Portnoy without sullying his own name but no one's really buyin' that. It's really just Deadspin flailing out of professional jealousy because Barstool is making good money selling crap and Deadspin is probably about to go out of business once again.
Also, didn't Mose Schrute out himself on Fire Joe Morgan?

Any chance Conference USA or the Sun Belt would reconsider taking them? Is it just the religious aspect?
Religious aspect, poor quality education in some very important fields, the fact they are a for profit dot com hiding behind technically non-profit status.

They're also looking into shedding that for profit label by becoming a non profit school once again. Also, the evangelical label didn't exactly stop them from adding Pacific to the fold.
Pacific is Methodist (sort of). Grand Canyon was started by Southern Baptists. That's....a major difference.
