What's the gap in level of play between FCS and high-level D2?

I'd put if like this. If you ranked FCS programs into 4 tiers, I'd say the top tier  D2 teams can beat the 3rd and 4th tier FCS teams most times. D2's top tier can be competitive  with, and occasionally beat 2nd tier FCS. Top tier D2 usually can't compete with and rarely ever beats top tier FCS schools.

I feel there's a bigger overlap in the talent level between FCS and D2 than between FBS and FCS. There's many FCS players that should be at a D2 school, and many D2 players that could be at an FCS school.

  2. As a Washington fan, I'm a little worried that all those logos appear to be using a darker shade of burgundy than the team has worn in my lifetime (with the exception of those anniversary uniforms in 2002, which I hated) . Needless to say, I want the colors to remain as is 🤷🏾‍♂️

Don't think that Baylor is going to the PAC-12 if this tweet is anything to go by:

I think some may be underestimating the cultural/political differences between the PAC-12 and Big 12 member schools (and their donors). The potential of money being made doesn't trump everything.

I heard rumors of there being some resistance within the conference in inviting Utah to join the (then) PAC-10 back in 2010/11.

College sports as we know them are gonna change for the worse. It's one thing to have unprecedented dynasties, it's another to obliterate the regional aspect of conferences to jam as many good programs as possible into a conference

This is a big reason to why I began following the lower divisions of college football in the last decade. Don't get me wrong, I still watch FBS ball.  After all that's where all the elite players are. Now following the FCS, D2 and D3 season has filled a void (for me anyways) that FBS has lost due to the conference realignments.

They played for nearly 50 years in LA before moving to St. Louis, and never used anything but a block font.

The STL era jersey numbers are considered a block font?

    Cannons back to Boston?

Robert Kraft recently became an investor in the league, so one could easily assume that whenever the PLL is ready to switch o the city based model that the Cannons will wind up back in Boston. Although I personally think we'll see them become the New England Cannons joining the Kraft sports family along with the Patriots and Revolution

    Do they draw decent crowds?

Are the games on at seperate time slots?

    Do they televise it?

    1. Depends week to week. Some cities draw better than others. Things like major youth lacrosse tournaments in the area have been said to effect attendance. In addition to that, they're still dealing with COVID restrictions in some states.
    2. The games are at separate times. This season with 8 teams they've decided to have 5 games per weekend. A Friday night game, 2  games on Saturday & 2 games on Sunday. The Sunday games feature the 2 teams from Friday night's game against different opponents. For example this past weekend, the Friday night game was the  Whipsnakes vs Atlas. On Sunday (today) the Whipsnakes played Chrome, while Atlas played the Cannons
    3. The Premier Lacrosse League has a broadcasting deal with NBC Sports. Their games air on NBC and NBC Sports Network, and streamed on Peacock.

Like someone else already mentioned, recently  one of the league execs has publicly stated that the league will transition to a traditional city based model at some point. With Lacrosse being primarily popular in the northeast states and the  Denver area, the PLL adopted a tour based model as a way to bring high level lacrosse to others parts of the country as well.

  8. New white/light uniforms for Chrome debuted today.

SN: I don't know when PLL's uniform deal with Adidas ends, but it may be safe to assume Champion will become the official uniform provider at some point in the future. The current deal with Champion covers every other clothing and apparel aspect of the PLL outside of the game uniforms and practice jerseys (players have been wearing Champion shorts and undershirts in practice). Adidas used to be the all around provider for the league until this season.

I know Champion is a fashion brand for the most part these days, but at one point in time they were one of the old big three of american sports uniform providers (Champion, Wilson and Russell Athletic) before the shoe companies got involved and took over. Outside of that fan controlled football league, does Champion still even make uniforms at any level? I know their old fitness apparel brand C9 was sold in Target stores for a long time, and now is exclusive to Amazon. So they clearly still make athletic apparel. But I literally haven't  seen a Champion brand sports uniform in about 20 years.

Wow, surprised they haven’t gotten sued yet. They even have the same segmented horn.

Division 2 Winston-Sale State had a similar front facing ram logo for years and (to my knowledge) never got in any legal trouble over it.

  10. If there's one thing I'd change about the PLL, I'd limit the teams to just one set of helmets. Helmet color choice can drastically improve or ruin how a team looks week to week.

Like today. The Whipsnakes always look bad in their white helmets!

    Image

If it were up to me, the PLL helmets would be...

    • Archers: navy blue
    • Atlas: Honestly, they're the only team in the league who's look isn't effected by the alternating helmets IMO. Could go with either the white or powder blue for them.
    • Cannons: gray but change the facemask color to red
    • Chaos: red
    • Chrome: black
    • Redwoods: white but change the facemask color to green
    • Waterdogs: purple
    • Whipsnakes: teal, but change the facemask dark green (the masks could already be dark green, but they always look black on TV. If that's the case adjust the shade of the mask to look closer to the green in the logo)

I wish they'd just run with the brownie as the primary and be done with it.

That would be cool. Though I was personally fond of the football logo. Not sure if it was ever the Browns' official primary logo, but it's what I remember being used on TV for a while. The helmet as the primary logo needs to stop! Between the elf, the mastiff (dog) and the B football they've had some damn good secondary logos but refuse to ditch the helmet logo smh.

I understand (and even at the time understood) what they were trying to do in preserving "color continuity" with Rocky the Red Ranger still being the "group of 5" leader (see what I did there?), but it never worked on any level.

Once again, I think most fans would've accepted Billy becoming second in command. Would have been real cool seeing him get "promoted" to Red Ranger while Rocky became the new Blue Ranger.

By the start of season 3, I was Tommy'd out.

Tommy becoming the focal point took me out of it too. Pre white ranger the show gave all the rangers moments to shine. After he became white ranger it was like the other rangers became his 5 sidekicks. Tommy being named the new leader of the rangers while Jason was still there, rubbed me the wrong way as a kid.

Billy not rising up to second in command after Jason, Zack and Trini left also rubbed me the wrong way as a kid. He was the smartest ranger, and his fighting ability improved tremendously by that point. Made no season for Rocky and Adam to leapfrog him in the chain of command  (ESPECIALLY ROCKY). I think most fans of the show at time would have accepted Billy as the #2 ranger. He earned it

this is  the ultimate compliment. everyone knows tommy as green ranger > tommy as white ranger.

I always considered them to be 2 different characters. Tommy just.... changed after he became the white ranger in a way I could never explain.

Also an alternate logo that I didn't know existed.

    premiere_lacrosse_league_team_whipsnakes

That's pretty much just the head of the snake from the primary logo.

Much bigger fan of the front facing snake head featured on a Whipsnakes t-shirt from the league's first season. That would be a much better helmet logo that the "whips" word mark IMO
