This meaningless exhibition game is acceptable to get hurt in, but if he'd been wearing a USA jersey in a meaningless exhibition game we would've had problems.

This is how I found out Justin Turner was on the Red Sox now.

    And Austin Nola yesterday..

Juan Soto also strained his oblique in a B team minor league game, talk about a meaningless exhibition.

Too bad it's still the crappy blue-numbered green jerseys. I really hate Under Armour and their stupid insistence that all green uniforms across all sports have to have blue numbers/script outlined in gold. It sure would be nice if ND were the next team to announce their departure from UA.

Totally agree, the blue ruins any green uniform they have. The Under Armour deal does end in 2024, I would love to see ND switch to Nike.

But it's not going to be up to the players. If owners tell them they can't play next time send, they won't.

Look for the next WBC to look similar to Olympic hockey, where it's composed of amateur and retired players.

    Eh doubt it.

Doesn't MLB own the WBC too? No way they'd let that happen.

We've reached the half of the series, and I'd like to thank you all for the feedback and your support!

Now, let's start group C with Canada:

The set features their new wordmark (in a normal size) with an extra border in black, with matching piping on the sleeves of the home and road jerseys, and a thicker retro-ish trim for the black alternate design:

Another homerun here, love how you modified the wordmark. Only thing I would change is matching the trim on the black jersey to the rest of the jerseys trims.

I think the black works very well for Canada in baseball.

Not to rehash this because I've said this numerous times, but Berhalter is a tactically poor coach and promotes soccer terrorism. The US only scored 3 goals in 4 games (worst offensive output by the USMNT in a WC since the 2006 WC debacle) and his system was ill suited for the pool the US currently possesses. NT coaches, especially the successful ones, create systems that best utilizes the skills of the player pool instead of forcing players to fit into a system that not only do they have little time to actually learn but also just didn't fit he players.

Furthermore, IMO, US Soccer needs to get rid of the nepotism that plagues the federation. Retaining anyone from the Berhalter era whether it be Gregg, or anyone else involved in this embarrassing ordeal (especially Reyna's parents) would be a mistake. US Soccer needs to move forward, not backwards. The fact that Reyna's parents felt like they could attempt to manipulate, bully and intimidate the federation into doing what they wanted is proof of the nepotism in the federation.

I'd like to see the US begin hiring from the outside. Hire qualified general managers and coaches with zero ties to the federation.

I didn't have a problem with Gregg before this whole situation but I agree with you, gotta clean the slate and start fresh for Copa America and 2026.

  6. The Athletic just posted this article today..

NHL expansion scenarios: 6 cities the league could consider next - The Athletic

Houston, Atlanta, Toronto, Quebec City, Kansas City, Halifax in that order. Not sure why the author even included Halifax when he calls it a pipedream and that European expansion is more likely. Portland or Milwaukee would of been better to write about.

I think it's dumb that the NHL is already talking about expanding again when they just got to 32 teams and equal divisions/conferences. I say relocate a team to Canada (either Quebec City or Toronto) to get to 8 Canadian teams, exactly a quarter of the league. Then relocate another team to Houston to get your massive market and call it a day. My relocation candidates are Arizona if their arena doesn't pass, Miami, and Carolina.

To be fair, the A's are already the fourth fiddle in the Bay Area. At least in Vegas they'd have a proper stadium.

And the rush of pro teams popping up in Nevada isn't exactly unprecedented. Los Angeles got the Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, and Kings in a span of less than 10 years.

Except that in 1960 Los Angeles was the third most populated city in the country with about 2.5 million people and that's not counting the rest of metro area. The Las Vegas metro area is currently the 29th biggest in the country with 2.2 million people, which is less than just the City of Los Angeles had in 1960.

Meanwhile the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area have about 7.8 million people, good for 4th or 5th largest in the country if it was counted as one metro area.

Time to close pool B with South Korea!

This time I wanted to keep things simple, using Korea's current wordmark. I know it's been around for 13 years or so, but I think it's got a lot of character and it feels quite unique. Regarding the colour choice, I took inspiration from the soccer team's 2002 World Cup home kit, going for vibrant hues, specially for the red. The idea would be to use red undershirts and socks, in order to create a more distinctive look, drifting away from the current navy + dark red scheme, which, in my opinion, is too close to Japan's.

I've also used thicker cuff piping (like the current Brewers' home jersey) whose colour order matches the wordmarks'.

I'm a graduate and alumni for ASU. I Can't be happy for a school in the same metropolitan? I don't care about the politics and when they do play, it'll be for the right reasons. Sounds like you're trying to make this something bigger than it it ought to be. I have always been a huge fan of Grand Canyon University and love to see its growth over the years.

No you can, who am I to tell you that what to be happy about. Just thought that it was funny considering the “beef” that was there for a bit. ASU seemed to be the only ones that cared about GCU which was odd. Obviously the fans don’t care.

Happy for GCU, always had a heart for the Lopes. Was going to attend Grand Canyon. But decided ASU. So I have a soft spot for them. UofA on the other hand, I hope they earn the right to be the first round upset...

That’s kinda funny since ASU refused to play GCU in any sport for many years due to its for process status.

I, for one, chuckled at the visual of the Pirate Parrot being surrounded by a circle of all the other team mascots right on the pitcher's mound.

To stay on topic - regarding first team to move, I know it sounds ridiculous right now, but wouldn't it be the Golden Knights?  I know they have good support, and the one game I saw on TV looked like a great atmosphere, but 1) there's no way the Raiders are leaving for 20-30 years after that stadium was built, 2) if the A's get a stadium, they'll be locked in regardless that they won't get good attendance, and 3) the NBA (IMO) would thrive there.

Not saying the VGK are likely to move, but of the four, they're by default the most likely.

Yeah it’s probably the Knights, or the A’s way into the future.

I think if Vegas gets an MLS team it’d be a complete disaster.

If they want it to look like a global event, then it should look like an American one.

I know that's not exactly what you said, but it kinda is (and what others have said).

Some of the designs absolutely suck - Great Britain's tiny wordmark, Canada's everything, Taiwan's logo, Italy, and even Cuba.  But again, different parts of the world have different established aesthetics.  I thought it was cool that Cuba seemed to always wear mono red in international tournaments.  I think it's cool that the Latin-American countries are bright and colorful, which reflects aspects of their culture that are in stark contrast to the relatively conservative North American way of things.

To look like a "global" event... it should look like a global event.

Here's some photos from the Venezuelan* major league.  Why shouldn't Venezuela's national team reflect the aesthetic of its major league?  I don't think anyone else should be held to the baseline that the US has set.

Ironically, the US's cap logo and flag-S are, IMO, just as silly as some of the other designs.  I'd much prefer a Yankees-inspired design, or some variation of some of the classic White Sox logos that intertwined S O X, but with U S A.

*just using Venezuela as an example - the point applies to all countries.

I agree, seeing the different baseball cultures being reflected on the uniforms is awesome. Whether it be the colors and brightness of the Caribbean teams or the more curved bill/low profile hats of the Asian teams.

But, the issue for me is the plethora of uniform manufacturers that look so cheap. This is the biggest international event for baseball and the quality of most teams uniforms look worse than high school teams here in America.

I turned on the Colombia-Mexico game yesterday, and for a few seconds I saw Mexico and thought “now THAT’S a professional looking baseball uniform.” And then the player turned around and I saw the cheap-ish looking NOB on a single line and a lacking number font. Mexico was SO close to nailing it! At least the rest of the uniform looks good enough for it to still stand out among a sea of bad ones.

This may ultimately be something the WBC doesn’t care all that much about, but I do view the poor quality of the uniforms across the tournament as a real problem for legitimizing the tournament. If they want this to truly be treated as a big, global-stage event, it needs to look like one. This isn’t a matter of big-name manufacturers vs. little-name; the FIFA World Cup has all sorts of manufacturers too. It’s about craft, execution, and quality, and no team participating in a major world baseball tournament should have a wordmark the size of an index card on the front center of the jersey or look like rec league teams. The single manufacturer uniforms of past tournaments looked so much more legitimate.

Yeah Mexico was so close. I think they look their best with a green jersey so that the word mark matches the hat logo but for some reason they didn’t do that this year.

What’s surprising to me is that there’s only 2 Nike teams (USA and Great Britain but GB is worse than a high school team), 2 Adidas teams (Puerto Rico and Colombia, both meh), and 1 Under Armour team (Canada who also looks like a high school team). You’d think those big 3 would want to be more in this tournament or actually do a better job with the teams they do have. Mizuno (Japan and China) and New Balance (Australia) are cool additions to that group but they screen printed their jerseys which make good uniforms look cheap.

Uh, because Seattle is just not a good city? Never been to the city but haven't heard good things about it. (Very rainy, people seem to be unfriendly towards visitors, fans in all sports seem to have a grudge against every team in their leagues). I mean, don't get me wrong, Cincinnati isn't exactly Versailles either, but from what I've heard, the two cities are almost polar opposites politically, so it could also just be Rednecks being Rednecks. Eh, whatever, it's Soccer, I hardly care.

    Wtf is this post 😂

USA's uniforms are both boring and ugly

Yet still the best uniforms in the tournament.

All the different manufacturers are making the tournament look amateurish, USA is the only team that truly has a big league feel to its uniform.

Imagine leaving a market like the Bay Area to play third (probably soon to be fourth once the NBA expands) fiddle in a desert wasteland filled with transients and no water. Good :censored:in luck, you clowns.

    Truly a shame.

We should start taking bets for which Vegas team will be the first to relocate?

  17. Read this article from The Athletic about Messi going to Miami..

Will Lionel Messi come to MLS? In Miami, everyone has an opinion - The Athletic

Miami is planning to begin playing in their new stadium in 2025. But IF they get Messi, could they strike a deal with Hard Rock Stadium to play games there until the new stadium is completed? It would be pretty sad to see Messi playing home games in a 18,000 capacity temporary stadium located in an industrial part of Fort Lauderdale. Messi would be the biggest signing in MLS history after all.
