  1. I wasn't referring to IP theft. Fact is, by purchasing an illegal fake, you are robbing a company of their money. If you were a musician, would you like it if people bought illegal copies of your CD instead of paying you the money for your content? If Derek here has no problem with stealing money off of companies and breaking the law to save a buck, then so be it. But I hope he understands what he's doing and why it's wrong.

It doesn't make it right, but the major sports leagues and apparel manufacturers definitely brought this one upon themselves.

    I can agree with this.

Not sure about the musician part, but I guess they would knowingly be ok with something stealing the concept work of someone here on the boards.

  2. It's naturally a lot easier to counterfeit a soccer jersey. With the exception of the crest, which is small, the only other printing is screen-printed and typically standard text.

Unless there's a lot of little details on the shirt, it wouldn't be ridiculously hard.

it looks terrible indeed . i buy from http://www.weiketrade.hk and never have a problem.

Too bad that site is also filled with terrible counterfeits.

If I saw someone wearing this, I would compliment them on being as ass.

No you wouldn't. You would get all internally angry and riled up over nothing, and then come on this site and vent about it.

    No, I wouldn't.

If you really would be that compelled to be that much of a smug jerk, I hope the dude who's wearing it is huge. And drunk.

It was just a play on what looooooooooogodude said in the last page about complimenting someone on wearing a knockoff jersey....

  4. One thing that nobody has seemed to acknowledge in this thread is that most people who buy counterfeit jerseys do not realize that what they're buying is fake.

A lot of sites steal images from NHL.com, NFL.com and the like to advertise their product. The average consumer sees a good price, a somewhat legitimate-looking picture and they think they've stumbled upon a great deal.

  5. Bobby_Orr_Minnesota.JPG

What apparently happened to get him in the gold and green is hardly what it appears to be. An oldtimers game in Minnesota had been set up, a few years after Orr retired from hockey. It featured former North Stars players versus NHL alumni, and as the story goes, the Minnesota side was short a few players, so Orr decided to don the Minny colours to even the teams up.

Even by numbers? Probably. Even by talent? Not a chance.

  6. So how about this scenario - I know that I've posted about the guy here who got prison time for selling counterfeit jerseys. I just found out that they are now selling a group of those at a local resale shop (no idea of the price, but I think I'll stop to check it out on Monday). Interesting development that I'll have to check out...

Somebody got time? I thought we were told there is no legal issue here?

I don't think there's isn't a legal issue. I think the point is that a lot of people just don't think it's a "crime" that should necessarily be given so much attention. People break the law everyday, hell, you break the law everyday, though you don't like to admit it.

So speeding and intentionally violating intellectual property laws are equally as bad? I'm sure you probably think jay walking and murder are on the same page too, eh?

There's a reason we have "misdemeanors" and "felonies"....

  7. We live in a very individualistic society

Exactly. There are some people think it's ok to help break the law and there are some who don't think its ok.

Nobody is going to convince the other side of anything. Best thing to do is just end it.

Yeah, if we are going to run with the imbecilic wallet-stealing analogy, the board members who don't care would be the people who the wallet thief sold Looooooooooogodude's $500 Best Buy gift card to for $100.

Or the fact that he didn't acknowledge my other point. Such is life.

  8. It does still bother me that people on a sports logos message board are defending the act of copyright infringement. Might as well go to a SAG forum and defense movie piracy, amirite?

That's not a very strong point. I visit this site because of my interest in sports logos and uniforms, not because of an interest in trying to root out copyright infringement. They are two totally separate issues. It's possible to enjoy sports logos and not care about copyright infringement, just like it's ok to enjoy movies via bootleg, or to enjoy beer despite the fact that it has caused deaths.

So you would be perfectly fine with some of your fellow board members having their designs ripped off, stolen or otherwise taken for monetary gain while they receive 0% of the profits, correct?

Yes, I would. Just as they would be perfectly fine with someone doing something to me. I mean honestly, if someone stole my wallet tomorrow, and I bitched about it here, would you really give a :censored:? Because if you did, I think you seriously need to consider your priorities. We're not really "friends" - I save that for real life.

Because your wallet being stolen and people's work that they do for a living are the same exact thing. You've proved nothing in this thread. Goodbye.
