As long as the secondary helmet stays only with designated alternate uniforms and follows the same rules as far as how frequent a team can wear them as said alternate uniforms (and safety is up to par), I have no qualms with this change.

I do hope they keep the current uniform regulations in place, though. Two alternates is the perfect number and allowing alternates to be worn only 3 times is also the optimal amount. Alternate uniforms are just that and shouldn’t be shoehorned in to act as a “Home 2” jersey imo. Similarly, uniform continuity is important, and it signals brand continuity; the NFL needs to avoid the jumbled mess that the NBA and its plethora of ever-changing uniforms have become.

Teams like the Titans, Jags, and Rams already have a jumbled mess of an identity because they constantly swap out different colored pants, socks, undershirts, and push the alternate jerseys to the limit. Alternate helmets will only make that worse league-wide. There are only 17 games in the season, the NFL has no room at all to be churning out alternate looks like the other three leagues

Teams can pair the second helmet with alternate, throwback or Color Rush uniforms

Little bit more than just the throwbacks.

I saw on ProFootballTalk that the Washington Football Team was unable to trademark that name. A it was too generic and B a squatter already applied for it.

Good that's what they get for having a non-name for two years

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here as I too hate the look of them, but that money is crucial to recoup the costs of the season. Especially the Canadian teams. It sucks but it’s necessary right now. But Adidas and Fanatics are doing everything in their power to not take my money when they decided to give us sub par hats and shirts and not going for another run of Retro reverse jerseys or offering a bigger line of jerseys through NHL history. But in the end those ad revenues are valuable to the teams this season and the next few.

They just made $650 million from Seattle. There are more ads on the ice, ads on the glass, ad banners by the scorebug show up throughout the game. More split-screen ads every time there's a slight lull in play. Not a single team would face serious financial hardship if they got rid of the helmet ads.

edit: Lol I forgot about the huge ESPN deal too. The NHL is rolling in money right now.

I just don't see it, honestly. The neon orange is garish as hell, especially combined with a navy that's so dark it looks black on camera. Besides, teams around the league are moving away from navy blue anyways; the Sabres dumped it in favor of royal, the Isles dumped it a while ago; I think only Winnipeg's left of the NHL teams using navy besides Seattle.

Plus royal blue is the color they wore during their Stanley Cup dynasty. Navy blue has...like, the 2006 run? Getting swept by Winnipeg in the first round this season? It's not exactly a color the Oilers have historically had much success in.

And why would they use a picture of a fan wearing a jersey that isn't their main dark jersey or current alternate if this means nothing? Why specifically use one wearing the Reebok royal blue? There's plenty of photos they could've used of fans cheering in the orange home jersey they wear now.

St. Louis still uses navy. They have the same problem with it being so dark it looks black, too

So Las Vegas is going to take a 2nd franchise from Oakland? The Las Vegas Athletics is a terrible sounding name, just like the Las Vegas Raiders.

I know that they just slapped the Raiders name on whichever city would host Oakland's team because the NFL or whoever didn't want to retire that identity. I just don't agree with that decision because there should be better care given to sports brands. The Golden Knights went out of their way to make a stunningly attractive grey jersey and branded every aspect of the franchise to make it stand out and connect with Vegas scenery, including consistent names with their minor league affiliate. The NFL did the total opposite.

They should do like the OKC Thunder did and get their own name so that the Sonics could use the name, if they ever return. Same for Oakland, if they're forced to relocate the Athletics. OKC's logo is awful, but at least they got the name part right.

I understand where you're coming from, but the A's have been the A's for 120 years across 3 cities.
