Bold and tough and rep the city. I'm excited!

If those words lead to a good design, it would be the first time. I can't wait for all-navy with an unreadable number font.

IMO the Vikings throwback is how they’re supposed to look.  Period.

Agreed, with the classic UCLA stripes being their forever away uniform.

Rumor has it that the Coyotes' move to Salt Lake City next year is confirmed. If this happens, then we're practically guaranteed new uniforms and quite possibly a new identity altogether, as the Kachina look would make no sense in the Beehive State. But, SLC does have a history adopting regionally incompatible team names...(looks at Jazz)

This is more fit for the 2024-25 thread

Fair. However, they essentially took their 80s/90s design and updated it. From what I’ve been able to see, most loved that design. Is the current design a step down? Perhaps, but it’s certainly not a jump. Obviously it’s all up to interpretation, but IMO it’s what I’ll always want to see out of a set and it certainly beats the crap out of their Reebok fiasco.

I refuse to give those Cardinals uniforms a single chance until they're worn in a non- monochrome manner. I don't care what each individual uniform element looks like when every element is the same color.

It might also strengthen my point. The NFL may decide it wants fans to know who is playing and stick with identifiable uniforms. MLB has a similar issue with City Connect, but the NHL's Reverse Retro had uniforms similar to their primaries.

I will continue to maintain that the NHL overall has the best visual identity of all four major US sports (yes, they ruined it somewhat with ads, but 3/4 major US sports have them). Even the more "radical" NHL designs show a lot of restraint. The state of NHL uniforms is so traditional that we've been freaking out this season about colored helmets being worn with white jerseys.

These White/White combos don't suck at all...in large part because the teams wear White helmets.

I always advised my clients:  White helmet = White pants.  If you wear a dark pant under a White helmet & White jersey, you're just going to have a very unbalanced, bottom-heavy look.  The exception was teams that had a very light color that they wanted to use for a pant, such as the Chargers with Yellow pants or the Buccaneers with Creamsicle Orange pants, or the Dolphins in Aqua pants.  Even then, it's slightly unbalanced and just doesn't look as good as White/White/White/contrasting sock.

Examples of this being a bad combination:

As someone who watches hockey, where every single away uniform is white helmet/white jersey/colored pants/white socks, I disagree. I always prefer colored pants with a white jersey, as long as proper contrasting white socks are worn.

Unpopular opinion: I don't care what numbers defensive players wear

Really unpopular opinion: I don't care what any players wear. The trend of players wearing numbers that aren't traditionally assigned to their position isn't going anywhere and I never saw it as that big of a deal. As long as the numbers can still correctly indicate which players are eligible to touch the ball, I don't care if there's a WR wearing number 1 or a DB wearing number 6.

Yes, but do you think the medium red (it is darker than the Kansas City Chiefs red they use) would work with navy blue? Because if you make the white trim at least legible similar to the Raiders white throwbacks from their 1970 look where the black trim was slightly thicker to make the silver numbers look in place instead of a thin black trim which would make the silver numbers hard to read.

Yes, I do think it would work. I think we just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Ok, but that WFL Portland team has navy blue numbers with white trim on an electric lime jersey and you wasn't sold on that?

No. I just don't like the "electric lime" color. I think of it more as "puke green".

But that is indoors. Most NHL and NBA teams can pull that off. Being that some teams have outdoor type stadiums, it couldn't possibly work you can try it out for once.

This was literally an outdoor game jersey. And I know your next argument is gonna be that this is a night game and it would look worse in the daytime, and my only response to that is that I disagree. The Texans should wear red jerseys, and if the jersey itself isn't red, the numbers should be.

White pants would be the least offensive IMO.

White pants with a highlighter green jersey would not be nearly enough contrast.

Not a single one of the primary uniform components (helmet, jersey, pants, socks) should be in that horribld green color.

aren't they the ones wearing it? you wouldn't want to be told what to wear.

Hate to say it, but designing a good uniform and designing a uniform that the players like are becoming two very different things. From what I understand about current players' uniform opinions, they'd be estatic about every game being all-black 🔥🔥🔥 vs all-white 🥶🥶🥶

That will not look great. The color rush was a one-time deal, the new uniforms are better off with white numbers with red, navy, or Houston blue trim.

I'm biased (my favorite team features red numbers on a blue jersey) but I completely disagree. I've always been a proponent of the Texans embracing red more to differentiate themselves from the other navy/red teams, and I was disappointed to find out that the new road uniforms will replace their red/navy trim numbers with navy/red trim numbers. I was hoping that the red alternate would serve as the basis for the new uniforms.

The Vegas Golden Knights would like to have a word with you...

I forgot about the Golden Knights' original home uniforms. Mostly because whenever they wear them nowadays, they're paired with that horrendous gold chrome helmet.

It looks incredibly wrong for the Dolphins, Bengals, Jaguars, Broncos, and Chargers at minimum. I’d say the Rams, Saints, Seahawks, and Ravens also look jarring.

That said…I agree that most of these are passable, and a few might even be an improvement on their teams’ current helmets.

Jarring for sure, but I wouldn't say it looks "wrong" for any team. Gray is a very natural color for a metal facemask.

I don't think those 90's unis were bad, they just aren't as nice as what they have now.

They were terrible uniforms. They were meant to take inspiration from the 1994 throwback uniforms, but ended up being a downgrade in basically every way.

    Inferior shade of red

    Inferior helmet

    Inferior helmet logo

Inferior shoulder striping (they added a logo and black shadow to it)

Inferior numbers (the additional gold accent made them way too busy)

    Inferior pants

Of course that uniform was an overall downgrade.  But red mask doesn't have to mean that uniform.  Red on the current uniform is light years ahead of red on that older uniform.

The main problem was that they darkened the red when they switched to that uniform. Even the current uniforms have a slightly darker shade of red to the 80s uniforms (the 80s red was the same shade as the Chiefs). I'd prefer the original 80s shade of red, but the current red is light enough that it isn't an issue.

I don't think they need to add it, I'm just saying that since one argument was that it didn't appear anywhere else, it would look nice if they did.  I'm perfectly fine with it just being the facemask color.

They're one of about 2 or 3 teams that I think can get away with gray as a facemask-only color.

    Who are the others?

maybe even replacing white in some of the striping, or even having gray pants on the road (though if it was up to me, they'd only have orange pants.)

That's taking it way too far. Gray is a great facemask color, but putting it in the official color scheme and using it for other uniform elements would look horrible. The only time gray is an acceptable uniform color is in baseball.

Pre that era. Early Dungy era, end of the creamsicles. 94-97 is when I really fell in love. Them spanking the Niners in their first game in pewter sealed it for me.

I’ve talked about it before recently, but I’m 36 and my :censored:ty football team has two Super Bowl wins, while all of my friends who have made fun of me my whole sports life haven’t seen the Niners win any.

Look, I still don't understand that decision in any way, Niners were still a great team from 1994-1997 (they won it all in 94 and made the NFC Championship in 97), but if that's the choice that you made and you're happy with it, good for you. Maybe one day the Niners will remember how to win the whole thing when they make their 1434380893498th NFC Championship appearance.
