Ah.  I thought we were speaking from a spectator point of view.  Knowing which guy of various size and appearance who's wearing a tank top and shorts seemed easiest for keeping track of who's who.

I was speaking spectator. Offensively, you go 'station to station'. Defensively, there's no screens to escape.  Believe me, when there's a crash of bodies under the boards for a rebound, it isn't easy to know who is supposed to get credit for the rebound (speaking as a part-time statistician for a D-1 program).

because southerners are spiteful, petulant asswipes and the people who willingly move there are even worse. it's really just as simple as that.

I'm in New Jersey for the first time in my life on business this week. Thank heavens all Jerseyites aren't like you.

Ok. For all the kvetching done around here about injuries and such, I'm just pointing out the obvious financial angle.

Me and my four season tickets are on the paying end of this, not the moneybags end of it.

Surely if the schedule gets expanded to 18 games, the roster size would also get expanded.

It didn't when it went from 16 to 17. I don't think it did from 14 to 16, either.

I think this is an unpopular opinion, but I could be mistaken..  I'm sure people complained when it went from 14 to 16, just like some (including me) pushed back on 16 to 17 and 17 to 18.

Going from 16 to 18 is the same as MLB going from 162 to 182, or NBA going from 84 to 95.  That's not insignificant.

I want every game to be relatively critical (which the extra playoff team has also affected) and for players to have a chance to be not be broken down by the grind.  If you're a WC team, then you're potentially playing 22 games in 24 weeks.  That's a lot of football.  Too much, in my humble opinion.

I get that it might be unpopular here, but I'd bet it will be popular where it counts - in the NFL's wallets. In being popular there, it's a pretty good indication that fans are supporting it, if only because advertising dollars and (more importantly) rights fees will continue through the roof. Mark Cuban won't be correct with his 'pigs get fat - hogs get slaughtered' line.

I understand where numerically 16 --> 18 is akin to 162 --> 182, but it's only one game per week, not three plus additional weeks to a season. This also isn't a net increase in game time, but I do agree that it's more playing time for the starters. If anyone can't point to real data that shows an increase in injury rate with a 17th game -- please do so.

  6. Hey all you Canuckleheads - Rob Black's son Tyler was called up to Milwaukee today, and inserted in the lineup in the first after an injury to Gary Sanchez. Rod is at the game, and was just getting interviewed by Brewer field announcer Sophia Minnaert . They gave him play-by-play for his second at bat (the first was a double), and Rod got to call a two-strike single.

How have I never seen these alternate logos? Post the rest.

Are they real, or an after the fact creation? I recall the Hound Dogs logo was shown to be the M from a more modern version of Mountain Dew.

Alternates and uniform changes aren't the problem. It's the sloppiness of the uniforms. I can accept changing uniforms, and some of them are an improvement. But there is no reason teams can't have matching socks or tucked in undershirts. It's about professionalism more than anything else. If your job has a dress code, you should follow it.

OK - if we're expressing pipe dream wants, then I want each team to have one 'home' uniform with a non-white jersey, and one 'away' uniform with a white jersey. One helmet. Socks that aren't a single color.

Again - we're saying these things with an expectation that the league cares, but clearly they don't, or they'd do something about it.

That needs to be nipped in the bud. C’mon, Goodell - give Merton Hanks his old job back and tell him to crack down on sock violators with extreme prejudice.

Seriously, I wish the league cared more about presentation. Non-uniform uniforms, slob shirts, looks that would stink even at a collegiate level…even coaches who didn’t care about design would have told you that uniformity in appearance across a team is important for what it signifies…maybe not Shula since the Dolphins wore different helmet designs in the Super Bowl, but Lombardi, Landry, Noll, Walsh, Madden, Grant, etc. are probably rolling over in their respective graves.

I do too, but any time I read things like this, I sigh and think 'not everyone is a nerd like we are'.

Do you know what the league thinks about? Making money. This presentation doesn't cost them money. In fact, I'm certain that the league makes money due to all of the uniform changes and alternates, because if they didn't -- it wouldn't be allowed.

Regarding the Guardian caps, is there any advantage / disadvantage to making your head extra huge? Like a DL taking up more space when trying to fill holes? Or a RB grazing a defenders shoulders due to the cap and losing balance or being otherwise affected?

You're more likely to be in the neutral zone at the snap, so that's a strike against them.

The forums site is being bogged down by ads on a computer, and as of today it doesn't work at all anymore on mobile (I use Safari), leading to a site location that's something along the lines of boards.sportslogos.net/admin/install (going off the top of my head). That leads me to ask a few questions:

    1. Is there still the ad-free option available for the boards? If so, how much is it and will it run smoothly on mobile?

    2. What in the world is going on with the mobile site? Is there an app that covers that?

    3. Would anyone consider integrating the board with some kind of  mobile app that doesn't spontaneously combust when you try to use it?

The ad free version still exists and works on both desktop and mobile. I'm on it now. I think there's a thread about ad free yet.

I ran into some glitches yesterday where the board didn't load, and since I'm on ad free, there must have been a larger issue.

The Panthers were able to get a booth near the NFL Draft, if not inside the main area itself, so at least this should help get some fans interested in the two remaining games they have. Hopefully they get at least 10,000 but I think that depends just as much as how they do before then as it does their marketing pitches at the booths.

That would be great if it did, and I hope that it does.  But...

Do you know what sort of football NFL fans like? The NFL and to a lesser extent NCAA.

Overall folks need to chill out on the "sky is falling" mentality over the attendance. I'm quite sure there are a lot of folks like me that have bought in heavily on past spring leagues to only see them falter and vanish and are taking a more cautious approach to fandom this time around.

I'm watching at least parts of almost every game, catching highlights on YouTube and the like, but I'm not "all in" as I have been in the past.

I'd bet this is even more rampant in towns (Birmingham, Memphis, San Antonio) that have seen many spring football teams come and go.

Patience, I'd bet the folks running this thing are a little better at making the decisions that we are.

None of what you are posting addresses why I made the comment about attendance range in the 5-7k area.

For some reason, I prefer this throwback for the Packers. I don't know, it has a classic vibe to it and it's visually different from their normal dark green and athletic gold colors.

It's not our best look. It shouldn't see the field.

ETA - hot pink would be visually different from our normal green and gold. I only think one member here would think that is a good thing to wear.  Different doesn't equal good, nor does unique.

    Mark Kelso would appreciate this.

I have to say it's been weird to see UFL players practice with them, but not having them in the same colors as the team, but I'd expect that won't be an issue for NFL players that want to wear them in games.

So do you guys agree with what Mike Florio says about defensive head coaches in that if the OC that they hire becomes a head coach, that team is most likely to hire a new OC who may have a new system that stunts a young QB's growth?  He also says that having an offensive head coach is better for a young QB because they will have the same system in place even if the OC leaves for somewhere else, so because of that he thinks that Nix and McCarthy will do really well.

There's seems to be a logic to that. If the HC is a defensive guy, and the offense does well, the OC becomes the latest hot HC candidate. I think he has pointed out instances where that is the case. You could also suffer at QB by playing on a team whose offense and coordinators suck. It happens both ways.

Unfortunately, UA appears to have only one shade of purple for all of the uniforms it provides to schools and teams. They're a summer collegiate team. It's ridiculous to expect perfection at that level. Personally, I admire the uniforms. Oh, and they do not appear to be blue. It's more of a dark purple or violet.💜

    Opinions vary.

    I'm team blue 🙂

I even love the gradient and segmentation in the numbers! My only issue with the Rams set is the bone and a little too bright yellow. But honestly it only bothers me in a few photos, so most of the time, the yellow works. It’s not quite the travesty that people make it out to be.

    That's the joy of opinions.

Mine are that the yellow needs to be toned down, and the fruit rollups need to be peeled off of the numbers. I think the horn was change for the sake of change, but I'm not convinced it's any better or worse than the previous versions.
