Panthers updated their template. Why can’t Green Bay?

Deleted some other stuff that was probably meaner.  How about I paraphrase Sam Wyche?

'Would you stop updating your template?!?! You're the Green Bay Packers. You don't live in Carolina!'

Packers could just join the trend of updating the template only to add faux mesh/perforations to the numbers

Or not. Timeless. Classic. Not just marketing speak.

Speaking on the Rams again, the biggest travesty is still changing the horn on the helmet. They have changed color schemes and uniforms over the years so it's not unprecedented for them to come out with something new. But for F's sake, you had quite possibly the most classic helmet in the entire world and you changed it! It was so simple, so effective, so identifiable. Blue/yellow, blue/white, blue/gold who cares. Just keep your damn horn.

And the worst part is, changing the horn led to changing the horn on the shoulders, changing secondary logos, adding lines inside the numbers. It just led to more gimmicks. Mix all of that up with highlighter yellow and bone... well thats another topic 🤣

The old horn must have been outdated.

I sort of disagree with this. There is something I love about the Packers jersey being slightly outdated. Plus I love the collar of their jerseys.

How exactly is it outdated? I mean, it's not like it's bell bottoms in the 21st century. A classic three piece suit is always classic.  What's 'outdated' are chasing fashion trends on NFL uniforms, only to revert to something more timeless. This look is essentially what the team has worn since 1961. It works and is immediately recognizable as the Packers. Sorry (not sorry) that it isn't on the latest template designed to be 0.022% lighter/faster/drier, but it's the right color green and it isn't unintentionally different shades of green on the jersey due to the latest technologies that can't replicate a color properly.

Buffalo basically asking for a 1 day extension on their homework that they had all year to do?

Or they had two guys graded equally and gained 60 positions in the draft later on.

TF is with this?  He was out by a full foot.  The knee didn't even come into play.

Yeah, but he didn't have a path to the bag. You're completely right -- just like how Dez Bryant didn't catch it at Lambeau.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what's wrong with Soldier Field? Doesn't it have historical significance? I know it's old as dirt, but so is Lambeau, Wrigley, Fenway, and half the stadiums in college. If it's just a matter of modernization, couldn't some renos be done and save say, $4 billion dollars?

Other than the first 60 rows of the main bowl, nothing in Lambeau is older than 1994ish.

You really just gotta stand back in awe at how in 3 seasons, the uniform rules went from-

“the color has to be present on one of the primary uniforms to be considered for an alternate uniform”

    straight to-

“f*** it, add any color you want.”

But is it really that? It has to be present to serve as a main color, thus the black swoosh on the Colts uniform so that they could have a black uniform. The Jets added black trim for the same reason.

The Texans (or any team) are free to add any trim color that they want to add at any point -- you just can't base an alt uniform on a color that isn't already there. This might be where they're headed. They've added Charger Blue (dammit I'm calling it that now, much like I refer to Patriot grey and not wolf gray) as a tertiary color - so they could unveil an alt in that color down the road.

I do want to circle back on this question because doesn't T-Mobile have a very specific shade of magenta trademarked? What leads to that because then obviously that opens up a new can of worms, but if the Titans cannot prove something about the Oilers blue, why doesn't Houston just use it?

    No.

You can't trademark a color (I'll wait now and be proven wrong). You can trademark your logo and name, and confusion of colors in conjunction with business use and logos and names could lead to problems. For example, if I started a shipping firm tomorrow and called PJ's and used brown trucks, I'd probably get a Cease and Desist. That same name with a green truck might not cause a problem.

ETA - from the google machine:

Can you get a trademark in a color?

While you can trademark a color, you cannot own it outright. The likelihood of confusion between two different products in varying markets is low. While "Barbie" has its trademark pink in more than 100 categories, the likelihood of the brand being confused for similarly pink "Pepto-Bismol" is highly unlikely.

Maybe instead of Black Diamonds they could be the Utah Double Blacks?

Double black diamond runs are the hardest/most dangerous

EDIT- Nevermind, never even crossed my mind that some may think its racist. Hell there is a CFL team called the Red Blacks..

What did you think 'Black Diamonds' was?

I understand the whole concept of Black Diamonds, but I feel it instantly invokes a gambling/cards/Vegas vibe, no?

Nah - it's a skiing thing. Playing card diamonds are red.

I understand I'm being totally pedantic with the response, but I think it would be a reach to go from Black Diamonds to Vegas/gambling.

It is too soon for the UFL to relocate teams after the 2024 season as it shows instability.  Give these teams one more year with proper marketing and moving the practices to the respective cities.

Because attendance figures of 5-7k show what, exactly?

Same. While I'm in the minority here, I think variety is good. I can also understand the worry that it can turn the league into a free-for-all like college. But that means team switching helmets every week. As it stands now I have no problem with teams wearing alternates 3 times a year. Out of the "big 4" major leagues in America the NFL is still far behind everyone else and has shown the most restraint. I'm completely okay with "city" uniforms in other leagues but can agree that it's not necessary in the NFL. If the H-Town unis are the closest we get to that, I'm fine.

Like it or not this is the way the world of sports branding has gone.

It depends on how you measure it. Do you look at it as 4 games per season, or as just under 25% of the season? I lean toward the latter, so I'm not sure that it is the most restraint.

The Texans new home jersey baffles me. Just took the old jersey and removed the shoulder stripes, updated the font(removing outline for tv numbers) and slapped the logo on the sleeve.

Because they needed something for those who liked the current uniform in one of their 4 different iterations of this uniform?

I'm not trying to justify it - because I can't, but that's my guess at their explanation.

That navy looks DARK! If I only saw the helmet, I'd think I was looking at the bat suit.

I'm with ya...Gulls is a cool identity (I love San Diego's) and I know there are gulls everywhere. But, it's like calling a team from Des Moines the sharks.

Yeah - like those lions and tigers found in Detroit 🤪

PS - this is sarcasm. I'm out of blue italic font already this week.
