  1. That would be cool in theory--but 0% chance the Douglas family (which owns Indy Motor Speedway) allows it. They are super-duper protective of their intellectual property (and for good reason, but still). That added to the fact that they've had the same since 1887 (?). I'm not even sure if I'd want them to change their name...as it is the Indy Indians have some of the most unique branding in all of sports--and it wasn't until today upon closer look that I realized just how versatile the potential for it is and can be. Aaaaannnnnd they're not making any jerseys for retail--at least not this season. I spoken with some team reps over at Victory Field earlier today and as it turns out, the reason they chose not to produce any Circle City alternate jerseys is that they were not sure they would sell well. Meanwhile, their other Circle City merchandise is flying off the shelves...so perhaps they should've pulled the trigger on that one. (I did get a nice consolation prize, however: one of their Circle City 108 Stitch shirts with the "Circle City" script minus the big tail on the Y. I got the cap, though!)
  2. ^ Be that as it may, I'm coppin' me one of those--and the cap--the next time I pass back through there. I'm loving that.
  3. This right here also illustrates the mindsets of far too many in the western PA region, which I have no doubt also largely contributed to the push to return to this paintbrush Pitt script. (They also don't like to acknowledge the times when their teams weren't winning championships out the wazoo, but we won't go there. ) Still though, super solid update all around.
  4. Setting aside the whole "that's the Steelers' stadium" thing, I think a better reason for the bright yellow is that it's one of Nike's stock yellow colors. Don't discount this...Nike and other manufacturers would rather either get all it's teams with similar comes onto their own, sometimes proprietary, stock swatches (this happened with Florida State's garnet, going from it's more unique reddish to one of Nike's stock "dark red" swatches), or at any rate, produce as few color swatches as possible (which I'm sure the whole Seattle Seahawks fiasco under Reebok's watch had something to do with). It just makes good business sense on the supplier's end...even though it may rob us viewers of some of the more unique shades--such as Pitt's former mustard yellow. (I do however love the shade of blue they paired with it, so that to me makes up for it--plus yellow has always been my favorite anyway, so I'm good with it. ) Speaking of Pitt...I wanna see what the rest of this Cathedral-of-Learning-inspired number set looks like. Oughtta be interesting. But here's what's not interesting... What up with that placket piping tho?? I'm sure that's probably a casualty of Nike's baseball template...but why do they continue to do things like this??? It gets irritating...)
  5. [Originally from the "Overrated Uniforms" thread merged into this one.] New York Yankees. Don't @ me, bro.
  6. Unrelated, but I'll see your Cincinnati Cyclones and raise you the Toledo Storm...
  7. "Yinz kids red up your room; we're goin' dahn to the ballfield to catch the game later." "Hey hun...yinz call Gram yet and let her know where we're taking the kids?" "Yes, you jagoff--I called her already! You know she gets nervous when we take the turnpike." "Well, hun...a couple of my buddies are also comin' with--they're bringing their kids, too." "WHAT?!! Yinz didn't tell me first!" *calls buddies on cellphone* "Hey, bud--yinz got arns in the cooler for the Yinzers game n' at? Yeah? Cool! Last thing I need is to be sober watching a bunch of jeffies run arahnd the ballpark and up and dahn the bleachers n' at--I can watch that in my own backyard." *gets in car* "Hey where the hell ya goin? Siri didn't say to go this way--you can't get there from here! Yinz gotta hit that right hand back there at the split to get dahn to the turnpike dahn 'nere. Go dahn past that old Pizza Hut and turn arahnd dahn by where that old train thing used to be." If you understood any of that, you might be a Yinzer--or have spent entirely too much time living amongst them, as I have.
  8. Hehe. Not... quite. (I used to do a LOT of traveling back and forth into/through/out of NE back in the day. It's the only reason I know anything about "Nor'fork"...)
  9. I'm sure which is crazier--the fact that I even know where & what Fremont is (W Dodge Rd to 28B link to 275, loop around the 30/275 concurrence to the junction @ 77 & you're on top of it--been through there way too many times)--or the fact that a summer collegiate team has a logo as genius as that secondary. Why not make that the primary? That F-cow itself makes for a great cap logo on a purple cap, with or without tawny-colored brim and squatchee. (Seriously, if their real hats turn out that way, I may have to order me one.) As it is between the two marks, there's a real and present disconnect between the two in terms of art style and execution--as if they were designed by two different people/entities. As for the nickname, Moo, I don't mind it at all--I mean, this IS the greater metro Omaha area we're talking about here, which at one point held the largest stockyards in the country (talking about Union Stockyards here), overtaking Chicago back around 1955, until they got sold [out] to capital interests in New York in the early '70s (as things often go when companies look to deunionize/seek additional financing/cut costs/keep more $ to themselves). Shoot, even the city chamber of commerce declared the cattle industry "the lifeblood of Omaha's economy" way back to the late 1880s. (Don't ask me why I know or care about all that....)
  10. Repeating myself from the Forward Madison thread: Pink is the new black. Book it.
  11. That looks like something of the Klavika family...if you can't find a match in there, Klavika will at least get you close.
  12. That one actually isn't TOO terribly bad, since I doubt anyone will see that and automatically think "Jaguar" (the auto brand) or the Carolina Panthers. However, since we done brought up hotshots, THIS is the one I was referring to previously (and those of you up in the Toledo area have probably seen a couple of these)...
  13. I'll see your Knight (you're on my turf now!), and raise you a Stevens Transport: This one I've also always liked, in a soccer-badge kind of way: Then of course, there's the outfit I started out with, with it's NASCAR-ish look and finish: Actually, there's a good number of trucking companies out there who really do value their branding-which I'll gladly take over the ones that straight-up ape existing sports logos. And it's a couple of them out there, one of the most egregious being... (How they've not been taken to task over this yet is beyond me. And there's another example out there even more egregious than this...)
  14. If i recall correctly, its called Wilson block. That style of 6 and 9 was prevalent throughout the '80s and mid-90s. Didn't realize it came back into vogue of late.
  15. More fun with flags... This one isn't new, but I don't think it's yet been covered: This is the civic flag of Des Moines, Iowa--long been one of favorites for its uniqueness. There really isn't a good reason stated for the angled edge on the red canton...but the three white aqueduct-looking shapes are...pretty much just that, which represent the Grand, Walnut, and Locust Street bridges across the Des Moines River into its downtown. The colors are meant to mimic those of the U.S.A. (with the blue having the double entendre of representing water).
  16. Montpelier VT has also gotten in on the fun. Just last week, the city announced its new city flag winner, seen here: The runners-up and the stories behind them are here: And of course, the outgoing monstrosity (seriously):
  17. Apparently now Columbia SC wants in on the fun, too. Quick look at the current.... ...And the 19 finalists. Quick hits from the link: - The three lines Columbia's three rivers. - The single star represents Cola being the state capitol. - The six stars represent the six colleges in the city.
  18. ^Looks like something similar to Klavika (aka the "Chevrolet" font) to me.
  19. "Combination game" should not be a thing in the NFL. Ever. #getoffmylawn
