  1. Chicago can stand up to the Bears since now that LA and LV are off the table, there's nowhere else to go.  The White Sox, on the other hand, could start talking about Nashville or... well, I guess just Nashville (FOH with any SLC nonsense, seriously.)

Not sure how much the White Sox contribute to the league from a revenue perspective - is being the second team in Chicago better than being a shiny-new thing in Nashville?  MLB would probably put an enormous relo fee on him, which could be prohibitive, unless they deem it another Oakland situation (which would be silly.)

  2. This is kinda fun.  No idea how they keep all the pick numbers straight or get it approved by the league so quickly.  I imagine there has to be cases where someone says something wrong and accidentally tries to trade a pick they don't actually have.  Maybe that's why there's 45 computers in the room.

Blame for the 76ers also goes to Kyle Lowry for also scoring 0 points, Harris and Lowry scoring 0 points in an elimination game at home are a disgrace and Philly fans and media should absolutely blast them both. It's a shame Joel Embiid is going to be trolled because of those two folding like a cheap suit, Embiid played his butt off. Sixers bench was also phenomenal.

Harris has been a non-contributor for 90% of his contract's duration.  This isn't about one game.  Certainly had higher expectations for Lowry, but gotta be realistic about a guy from the buy-out market that's at the end of the line.  He's also not online (or has someone online on his behalf) saying how great he is.

  4. I heard a stat that I didn't fact check, but based on my mental math, I'm sure is accurate:

Tobias Harris has earned been paid the 2nd most money of any athlete while playing in Philadelphia.

I'll never blame a player for signing a contract that was put in front of him, or a guy that was drafted too high - that's on the teams for mis-judging talent - unless those guys simply quit.  I don't know if Harris (0 pts last night, mostly invisible during his entire tenure as a $40m/year season) took the bag and quit, or was never good to begin with (I'm assuming the latter), but it's unreal how much loser-ass players can make in the NBA.  And some dummy team will give him another huge contract next year, because once you're in that range, you tend to stay up there and not get deals that are in line with your actual value.

Not only that - but he has either a burner account, or a family member on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter, for nobody that doesn't already know that) that vehemently defends him when there's negative articles or fan tweets, posts crap on teammates, and posts propaganda about his true value to a winning team.  Sixers already had their share of burner-account nonsense with that loser-ass loser Coangelo and his wife, but if it's true that it's orchestrated by Harris, that would be icing on the cake for a miserable tenure.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Marvin Harrison Jr stays firm on not signing the agreement and ends up selling his own bootleg version of an Ohio State Cardinals jersey for a bit.

I wish there was some way of just posting the relevant one and not both.  Anyway, he's basically protesting a contract that Fanatics offers to college sophomores under the NIL agreement which pays them for exclusive rights to their autograph and other stuff for 4 years, which, depending on when they leave college, could extend into their first two NFL years, where their value is considerably higher (but they take the bag in college, because it's hard to say no.). Harrison didn't take it because he didn't need it, but this is like a "silent protest" against it on behalf of other players, and he'll eventually sign the NFLPA deal.

TL;DR - nothing to see here.

That 2008 title was such a fluke, given the rest of Doc’s resume.

Glenn Rivers.  He's not a doctor.  He's not even smarter than a literal basketball.  He doesn't deserve any special professional designation.

Glenn Rivers or Jerk-Ass Rivers will be fine.

  7. Would it be 32s rather than 32's?  There's nothing being omitted that the apostrophe is standing in for.

Whether 32s on everyone's helmet would be legal or not could be a thing, but if it is, I think simply "32" might be a little better.

I'd consider swapping the number and wordmark / helmet fonts.  Maybe go very basic / traditional for the logo and name, and then a little "fancy" for the numbers.  I think the helmet would represent the brand a little better if it was slightly simpler / older school (old schoolier?)

Its because the Jets won the Super Bowl when he was there. That being said...

Or because some people think it's a good uniform.  People like me.  Put a decent helmet logo on it and it's a solid-traditional look.

The new NYSE ones are fine, but the Jets "iconic look" will always be the white-lidded Namath-based sets.

  9. I don't love black in either of those palettes.

The black only really works with the copper and the yellow, but not the purple or light blue.

I'm curious if they ever said what they were going for with the current look.  Without any context, I actually like it, it's just so ridiculous for the Jazz to be wearing it.  Off the top of my head, I can't think of a black and yellow NBA team (which, if true, is a shame) but maybe someone could pull off that look a little bit better.

Maybe the next time the Hawks lose their minds, they can try it (they'd have to abandon red though, or at least relegate it to one of the 32 alts they'll have.)

Having the main two colors not contrast well is bad design

I'm not sure that's always true.

I'm still holding my breath for silver helmets (either throwback wings in solid midnight green, or midnight green trimmed in black, or the current wings but with midnight green swapped in for the silver), midnight green jerseys, and shiny silver pants.  With or without black.

These CC uniforms are just Nike trying to make the monochrome look a thing in baseball. I don't like the colored pants. It feels very college or girls softball to me. Not MLB. But most of us on here are baseball purists. These uniforms are for younger people. I'm sure these are "fire" or "lit" for them :)

im a purist and like dark pants / monochrome looks (in some cases). I hate 80% of the CCs, but not always for that reason.

dark pants have roots as far back as the sport itself.

More football in the regular season?

I think this is an unpopular opinion, but I could be mistaken..  I'm sure people complained when it went from 14 to 16, just like some (including me) pushed back on 16 to 17 and 17 to 18.

Going from 16 to 18 is the same as MLB going from 162 to 182, or NBA going from 84 to 95.  That's not insignificant.

I want every game to be relatively critical (which the extra playoff team has also affected) and for players to have a chance to be not be broken down by the grind.  If you're a WC team, then you're potentially playing 22 games in 24 weeks.  That's a lot of football.  Too much, in my humble opinion.

Congratulations, Arte. Let’s see how much you love baseball now that the best player in your lineup is Logan Freaking O’Hoppe. Ain’t karma a :censored:?

Ironically, O'Hoppe was a top prospect from the Phillies system that was being held on to be part of a potential package for Trout, before they panicked and swapped him for Brandon Marsh (which turned out to be a win/win.)

Assuming the Sixers get beat tonight, Mike Trout is the Joel Embiid of baseball.  Among the greatest talents of all time, incredible numbers, no playoff success* and ultimately too injured to make a lasting impact on their sports.

*Embiid at least has playoff appearances, and stats that are amazing, but the team has accomplished nothing... just like Trout.

The NFL has given Labor Day weekend to college football now. I don't think they'd move back up, but what I can also see the players say is to completely get rid of the Pro Bowl week if they want that 18 game schedule.

The week before the SB isn't going anywhere.  Moving the season up is a non-starter.  It'll be tight to add a second bye and an 18th game, but that's what the jerks are going to try and do.  I already think that 17 devalues the games, and the 7th playoff team devalues the playoffs (let alone takes away the bye for the 2 seed, but I get that some people may think it was unfair to begin with.)

But it's happening, and there's nothing any of us can do about it.  We're not going to stop watching and not going to stop paying.  Even a Labor Day weekend game, I'm sure places would still sell out, even if it's mostly resale tix.

The original USFL used to play 18 games, although they had shorter playoffs. I'm not even sure they had preseason games...they had one 'postseason exhibition' in London in 1984.

One thing I've wondered about...what if the NFL season is so long that the Super Bowl has to be played on Valentine's Day? How will that go over?? I can imagine a lot of fights that day...

The plan would be to play it on Presidents' day, to capitalize on the 3-day weekend that a lot of people have.

I HATE HATE HATE that idea, because 1) it completely devalues the meaning of the holiday (though it's basically been about applaince and furniture sales anyway), but more importantly, 2) it's a big travel time for many people.  I almost always get a ski house rental for the long weekend, and I'm sure that it's extremely common for people to get out of town for long weekends.

NFL should avoid Labor Day and any other long-weekend holiday.  In theory I get it, and I'd certainly love a free day off after an Eagles SB, but realistically those are so few and far between that I'll deal with using PTO.

How often does the league change templates?  There should be some type of restriction on that as well. If a team has to wait 5 years for a change, Nike should have to wait 5 years to implement a league-wide template change.

I don't see why it matters, as long as the template isn't forcing teams into a non-trivial design change.  Back in the not-so-distant past, teams would have players in different templates on the field at the same time, and while there were only a few variants, only the Broncos (I think) were really locked into a particular one.

It's hard to see here, but here's a game used Brian Dawkins jersey in a Broncos-ish cut (note the curve of the side gusset and the angle at which the seam connects to the collar.  While in the minority, he was not the only player to wear this style, so I don't think there's anything custom about it:

    Here's another one:

    84865a_med.jpeg

    and another one:

    s-l1200.jpg

Here's another 2007, game-worn jersey.  I know the other examples were all white, but the majority of white ones from that era are the "normal" template, just couldn't find any game-worn ones to show good images from.

Here's another from the same '06 season as the Dawkins one from above (note the patch).  Also interesting is that these have another seam that runs up around the numbers - I thought it was custom, but since so many have it, maybe it wasn't?  That's a detail I'm sure I'd remember if it was prevalent, but maybe I was slipping back then.

    1309b_Auc50_sm.jpeg

NINJA EDIT: I'm seeing more and more white ones in that style, and not many green ones, so maybe there was some reason for that - definitely not all white ones, but a lot more white than green had that cut.

Here's a 07 image with white jerseys in the "normal" cut (weird that Kolb has the 06 patch while McNabb does not)

It appears that for '07, some guys wore '06 jerseys with the patch applied.

The MLB's pants/jersey problem could easily be applied to all the overhauls Nike has made since they took over (below is from today's UniWatch):

“This has been entirely a Nike issue,” the memo to players read. “At its core, what has happened here is that Nike was innovating something that didn’t need to be innovated.

As many of you know, concern with Nike changes is not new. We cautioned Nike against various changes when they previewed them in 2022, particularly regarding pants. MLB had been, and has been, aware of our concerns as well. Unfortunately, until recently, Nike’s position has essentially boiled down to — ‘nothing to see here, Players will need to adjust.’”

    Truer words were never spoken.

Have NFL players been complaining about materials or templates? I’d wager that most of them think the designs are 🔥🔥🔥, and the changes in templates / tailoring are, while IMO unnecessary, at worst benign (to players - I hate the big V seam on the current model).

Tuck in the undershirt and put both sleeves either up or down, and I really don't dislike this. The socks and sleeves and number provide a nice pop of red; the logo, wordmark, number trim, gloves, and shoes give a nice pop of light blue.

The colors on that uniform are so hard to judge because they could look extremely different whether in daylight, in a closed dome, or an open-roofed night game.
