jrh31584
I find it very hard to believe that the Braves are #2 on that list.... Ya, me too. No one cares or like the Braves. They were the only team in the southeast U.S. for nearly 30 years, plus they had most of their games more or less nationwide from the late 1970s to whenever Turner South was created. GeorgesL
Id think the Red Sox would be in #1 and by a mile. The Red Sox oughta be #1, they came back 0-3 last year to beat the Yankees for the AL pennant last year, that needs to count for something. pcgd
This poll was about popularity not on the field success. The teams that are on top are a result of 1 big thing...television and radio. The New York teams were in the center of television for years. WGN and TBS lead to the popularity of the Braves and Cubs. And KMOX is what lead to the popularity of the Cardinals. Boston is a result of television as well and being in the megaopolis of the Northeast.I grew up in a non-MLB market. A majority of people were fans of the Cubs and Cardinals because of the location (half way between both). The rest were fans of the Red Sox, White Sox (location again) Braves and Yankees.
