ucnu112
I'm flipping through SI.com's "Greatest #32s" photo gallery; .... Karl Malone, Marcus Allen, OJ Simpson, Steve Carlton.... As I hit next to go to Franco Harris, something catches my eye.LinkSteve's jersey has a zipper! I know it's not the only team that's ever done that, it just looks so unusual! pjinners
Giving away my age, but I used to own a Carlton replica just like the picture when I was in high school. I even had the maroon raglan sleeve undershirt. I know from looking through old Ebbets Field Flannels catalogues that a lot of teams used zippers from the 1930s on. winghaz
We had zippered uniform tops when I played Legion ball, and I hated them.Of course, those were the days of the pullover double-knits without the belts, and we were envious of teams that wore those kinds of unis. griffelh
Besides the Phillies, other teams using zippers in the early 70's were the White Sox and the Astros. The Phillies continued to wear the zippered jerseys until 1987.
