Just saw the highlights on SportsCenter:

Aparently FIU got delayed and had to scrable for a flight from Miami to Minneapolis Friday night, then took a bus to Madison in time for the game.

One problem: their uniforms never made it to Wisconsin, so the staff there had to round up practice jerseys, shorts, shoes, and other gear for the game. Talk about embarassing.

Given the state of the airlines these days, it's surprising this doesn't happen more often.

Anyone remember the Astros game against (I think) the Braves in the early '80s during the Astros' "rainbow guts" era? The umpire crew arrived ahead of their luggage and for the first game of the series had to wear Astros warmups -- basically the Astros' unis with navy blue where the white was.

I think the home plate umpire was the late John McSherry. He looked like the setting sun that day.

I really feel for Florida International on this. We had a similar situation last season when I was coaching at McNeese State. We were going to UL Lafayette to play on the road. The trip started off bad with a couple players being late and the bus was delayed on I-10 due to an accident.

Right before we pulled into Lafayette, we found out that the managers forgot to load the uniforms on the bus. Quickly I called a former player back in Lake Charles to pick up the uniforms and drive them to ULL. I tried like crazy to get a police escort, but to no avail.

Our uniforms didn't make it in time and we had to play the game in ULL's bright red practice gear! The head coach was pissed! I was embarassed. To top it all off, it was a televised game! Wouldn't have been quite so bad if we'd have won, but we lost by 12.

We had a situation last year at Northeastern with our men's hoops team (I'm an alum, but a former manager, so I can empathize with all of these situations).

We played Georgia State in Atlanta on a Thursday night and UNC Wilmington on a Saturday night. On Friday when the team flew from Atlanta to Raleigh, the equipment bag with the road (black) uniforms was misplaced/lost/disappeared.

Since we were playing a home hockey game on Friday, someone was around to field a call that night when the uniforms were deemed "missing" and the home whites were Fed Exed from Boston to Raleigh/Wilmington where the team wore them for the game against UNCW, and in one or two other road games.

The black uni's weren't worn again that season, as replacement red uni's were ordered as an "alternate" in case the blacks ever showed up.

This year, we wear red on the road, and don't have a third uniform.
