NHL 09 Custom Covers

Your images need to be a lot higher resolution to make this look right. Compared to the template they look terrible.

Also, you need to work on your cutout ability in Photoshop in order to make them look believable. Especially on the Koivu one you can see where you used just straight lines to cut it out. Work on blending, feathering, and smoothing to make your cutouts more lifelike and dynamic.

Dude... you have the right idea on these, but you need to do a better job with the hockey players. There are several problems with your covers thus far:

1) Bad cut-outs. The black lines outlining the player make it look like a 5-minute Photoshop job.

2) Proportions. When you resize the image, make sure you keep the same proportions. That way the won't look like fat midgets or tall slims...

3) Image effects... A little bit more skills, you can make the player look similar to the way the original does...

For example look at the NCAA 09 cover:

Now look at the Michigan cover I made for myself....

Ive found that, especially if the image is large enough, you can get a similar effect that EA does by using diffuse glow, turning the graininess all the way down and playing with the glow and clear amounts, then kicking up the contrast pretty high and taking the saturation down a bit.

And when resizing images in photoshop, hold down shift as you drag on a corner to resize it. That keeps the proportions the same.
