RyanB06 Posted March 2, 2009 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Isn't there some sort of irony in the Yankees being the team to break tradition?They were the first team to add numbers to the back of their jerseys on a full-time basis, so there is a precedent.That being said, sometimes being the first team to do something untraditional like putting a patch on the back of the cap isn't a good thing. Especially one so tradition-bound like the Yankees. Gothamite Posted March 2, 2009 Share Posted March 2, 2009 In this case, it seems to stem from wanting to maintain their uniform tradition in the face of modern merchandising techniques - given that they want something special for the new stadium to sell more caps, they're downsizing the cap from three patches to two.
