My suggestions for the logo is like add sometime in the center of the rectangular shield like Funkatron101 suggested, maybe a silhouette of a batter swinging a bat and make the ball go upwards instead of its current direction. Or insert a silhouette of a pitcher throwing the ball and leave the direction of the ball the way go got it. I don't know if that makes since. It makes more sense in my head... Also this will help for fonts My link its got all the MLB fonts football etc. as for program I strongly suggest Inkscape.
