bosrs1
Hadn't seen anything on this. Looks like breakaway portions of the North American League are in the process of forming a new independent minor league called the American West Baseball League. The effort is being led by Godfather Media, the owners of the former Yuma Scorpions/Panthers of the old Golden Baseball League and North American League. They've supposedly already got franchises lined up in several old Golden Baseball league cities including Fullerton, San Diego, Long Beach and of course Godfather's own Yuma Panthers as well as Mesa. They're also in talks with groups in Henderson, NV among other places. The Yuma Panthers logo and such were already known from their aborted season in the NAL this year, and the Fullerton Flyers will undoubtedly remain the Fullerton team's name since they're also owned in part or in full by Godfather. Yesterday the Long Beach team revealed their name and logo. Still no word officially on where the 3 California teams and Mesa will be playing or San Diego and Mesa's team names. Opening day is slated for 2013.
-kj
"Splash" is an awful name, but that's a fantastic logo. Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop! bosrs1
I have also heard they were in talks with Surprise, AZ for another go at Minor League Baseball.Wouldn't surprise me. No pun intended. They're talking with a bunch of groups in the southwest supposedly. And God knows the Phoenix area has enough small stadiums. Question is does it have enough people who want to come out. There's a reason the Diamondbacks built a dome. To say nothing of the Diamondback's own effect on the market.
