Chuo Raccoons - Kantoh Collegiate American Football Association - D1 TOP 8

Chuo Raccoons football

In 2015 (from best as I can tell), Chuo used jerseys with red numbers for the spring exhibition season and switched to new uniforms with white and blue numbers for the fall regular season. So I thought I would include both.

Rikkyo Rushers - Kantoh Collegiate American Football Association - D1 TOP 8

Rikkyo Rushers football

A man by the name of Paul Rusch, from Louisville, Kentucky (my hometown), came to Japan and introduced football in 1934. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Rush was deported back to the US and would return with General MacArthur during the US occupation of Japan. There he worked on MacArthur's staff and continued to promote football. The details from here are a bit fuzzy, but Rikkyo University is also known as St. Paul's University because of Rusch's links with the university, helping to rebuild it after the war. Not to mention the religions ties the university has. Again, confusing. So you can call it Rikkyo University or St. Paul's University. But I'm also confused on the formal name of the team. Sometimes they are referred to as the Rushers and sometimes St. Paul's Rushers. In any case, I'm just going to call them the Rikkyo Rushers for simplicity.

They also only wear the "R" on the left side of their helmet, leaving the right side blank. I could also not find a single photo from the 2015 season of them wearing any jersey other than white. So I'm going to make the assumption that they only wear white like LSU and Dallas. At least for the past season.

Fun fact: Hosei University has a legal agreement with Boise State University to allow the use of their trademark. Specifically, the Smurf Turf. From the shade of blue to the numbers on the hash marks, it is exactly like Boise's. This field is used for both games and practices.

Better then their counterparts in Britain, most teams don't even have enough helmets for a full team. You get some really weird mixes of uniforms and helmets.

I expect Paul Lukas to start a crusade against this team name and logo any moment now.

Please tell me the team they are lined up against in the second pic from the bottom is not located in either Hiroshima, Nagasaki or Fukushima.

The helmet logo looks like it might be referencing an explosion? like the old Denver Dynamite arena football logo.

The team they are playing is the Health Sciences University of Hokkaido, located in Tobetsu, Hokkaido, which is in the north part of the country, opposite of all the places you mentioned. The team name is the First Molars (they are a dental school). The logo has something to do with teeth or is a star, but not an explosion or anything.

The Hokkaido prefectural flag features a seven-pointed star, so the logo is probably related to that. The flag is navy, red, and white, so the team colors match too.

I honestly never thought about that. Yeah, it bares a resemblance to the flag. I'm in Hokkaido and I didn't even make that connection, despite seeing the flag all the time.

Tohoku Gakuin Kayaks - Tohoku Collegiate American Football Association (東北学生アメリカンフットボール連盟) - Division 1

So if the posting dates are to believed, TGU went though two types of uniforms in 2015. They stated 2015 with a traditional red, blue, and white uniform, not unlike Kansas or the NY Giants. During the year they switched to Carolina blue helmets, but still had the red and blue uniforms. At the end of the year they switched to full Carolina blue, dark blue, and white. I'm not sure why this is, I'd have to contact the school, but based on the dates, that seems to be exactly what happened.12186608_821060344671432_6390602628718928031_o.jpg
