I'm sure this has been done already... NHL realignment Atlantic and Northeast remain the same. Southeast WSH TB FLA CAR NSH Central DET CLM CHI STL DAL Northwest MIN WPG COL EDM CAL Pacific LA ANA PHX SJ VAN Recap: * Nashville moves to the Southeast * Winnipeg moves to the Northwest * Dallas goes to the Central * Vancouver moves to the Pacific I feel it makes the most geographic sense; solving most of the timezone issues. Would Vancouver be OK with moving away from the other Canadian teams? Obviously Minnesota would want to be in the Central, but at least they get a natural rival in the Jets. Aside from Detroit crying about not being in the east, is there any reason this couldn't work?

People go to Florida to watch TV? I've been to Florida numerous times, and maybe have watched TV for a grand total of 30 minutes. What? This has nothing to do with people visiting Florida on vacation or business. My point is that, resident or tourist, there's so much to do in Florida besides watch TV. This is the biggest misconception about Florida. The locals also don't go to the beach. Museums and art galleries are in short supply down here and the ones they do have are tiny or full of "dolphin art". Locals may go to the theme parks a few times a year, but it seems like they just enjoy complaining about the prices instead. Having lived in Pittsburgh and Indy (Two cities not known nationally for having tons to do) before coming to Tampa I can tell you that they blow this area away with the diversity and quality of attractions and people willing to put in the effort to experience them. I live less then a mile from the Trop. People make a ton of excuses as to why they don't go. The only one I buy is most of the "locals" are transplants and don't care about the Rays.

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Pitt and Syracuse have applied for membership in the ACC.

They were doing pointless realignment on Mike and Mike this morning. They were saying that there are rumors the NBA might contract two teams, Greenberg suggested Memphis and Toronto, he then goes on to suggest that the other leagues (possible exception to the NFL) do the same. His plan for MLB would be to contract Tampa Bay and Oakland, move the Brewers back to the AL along with Arizona and institute interleague play throughout the season. Anybody heard these NBA rumors anywhere else?

Sorry to break up the fun, but I have a bit of "real" pointless realignment that local radio was talking about. Driving home yesterday some DJs were talking about how they believe Selig proposed the floating realignment mostly as a way for the Rays to compete and bring in more fans. Selig doesn't want to look bad that a team is failing and with more success he believes a new stadium would have to be built. (Thats their theory, not mine.) They made a simple suggestion which I actually kind of like. Just swap the Rays and Nationals. The Rays then get more natural rivals in Miami and Atlanta and Philly and the Mets will still bring in good crowds, although not as good as Yankees and Red Sox. The Nationals in turn get to play Baltimore more and the added crowds that NYY and BOS bring in. Of course, the downside of their plan is that then Washington is in the same situation as the Rays.

Just thought of another reason Pitt might not want to move. Over the past 10 years some of their best basketball recruits have come from NYC. Would these players be less likely to choose Pitt if they aren't going to be playing infront of their hometown fans every year at MSG during the Big East tournament?

Too bad Pitt, WVU, and Syracuse can't all join the Big 10. I'd be in favor of that! Seriously though, the Big East has already been raided once. Losing Pitt or Syracuse would make it an even bigger joke to national sports radio people. For that reason I hope they go for Mizzou.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the Rays are going to put their $150 million up right at the start instead of over the original yearly increment plan. I hope this gets done. Looks like it could be an awesome stadium and the Rays have great young talent, should make for a fun atmosphere. My soon to be wife, only 3 months left of the single life, is looking to doing her residence in Tampa and I need some major league ball back in my life.

I think it looks amazing. I would love to see that "netting" used, a really interesting design element. With the Rays picking up a large part of the cost hopefully this can get done. My wife-to-be is starting to look for her residency options, Tampa is on the short list, and if this park gets the green light I might have to bump it up a few notches.
