Wait… you hate the Minnesota Vikings?  That’s hilarious!  That’s like hating…. I don’t know, like the Indiana Pacers, or old Scooby Doo reruns.  Or your four year old nephew who occasionally says annoying things.  What could the Vikings have possibly done to the fans of any other team to create the least amount of offense?

The Vikings are completely inoffensive because they never really win, and they wear purple on top of it which makes the whole thing more magnified. I’m convinced their whole vibe would be different if they would’ve worn royal blue instead.

If you’re gonna wear purple and wanna be taken seriously, you gotta be the Ravens. Win more than you should, and have the face of your franchise be a legit murderer. It’s the only way to counter that being your primary color.

  2. Back in the 1970s the San Diego Padres nearly moved to Washington DC. They put out a very rushed, very generic looking Washington Stars uniform set, and had the players (or front office staff. I can’t remember) model them before the whole thing fell apart and they returned to San Diego.

It’s obviously not exactly the same, but man, does that new Nationals road script give off a similar vibe.

    Washington Stars story, for reference.

Looks like the Marlins will be updating the legibility on their dark uniforms (probably just filling in the wordmark white) and seem to be bringing out a Miami blue jersey with a Marlins word mark. Much needed, details will be revealed tomorrow at Fan Fest.

I love that Billy Gil is dropping Marlins news now in the same manner that Roy does for the Panthers and Mike Ryan does for U of Miami football.

  4. I’m almost positive at this point that the 49ers are going to crush the Lions like a bug, then lose the Super Bowl on some more bull:censored: to Kansas City. Then we get the gift of the media talking ad nauseam about how much “adversity” they overcame because they lost a game or two extra which made Mahomes really really mad, and they had the tough distraction of their tight end dating the most famous singer in the world (did we mention that to you, btw? Well just in case you missed it, here’s another 30 minute wankjob video about it).

Like I said. Wal Mart brand Patriots.

Put me in the category that the only constant thing with the Jets is that they consistently underwhelm with their uniforms.  For me, it all comes down to the logo on the helmet.  Right now it's garbage, but I'd say the only halfway decent logo they've ever had is the 80's era as it's the only one that has a jet on it (I forgot about that hideous logo back in the early days).  I really wish they'd get more creative with their branding and do more than just a wordmark on their helmet.

YES. And that is so frustrating. You’re called the Jets , for Christ’s sake. Why are you trying to emulate the boring ass Giants with a script helmet rather than, I dunno, use an actual jet, which is one of the COOLEST things on the planet, as a logo? It’s legit SO easy, and they’ve fumbled the bag every single time outside of that one 80s logo which I still don’t think is all that good.

After the Sharks teased black shells and gloves that match the striping of their primary teal equipment their new jerseys became a second thought. A new third is cool but the idea of them being able to pair their black equipment with their home jerseys is the biggest news that comes from all of this.

Not sure I’ll read that much into it, but yes. Absolutely. The new set is nice, but getting to see that jersey with black breezers, gloves, and helmets in particular would be such a nice throwback. They should absolutely do that for games like Joe Thornton’s upcoming jersey retirement. A nice, subtle nod to the past without having to bust out era appropriate throwbacks.

Nobody there will care about or support the A's, but at least it provides people an opportunity to see star players on visiting teams, kinda like when some superstar is rehabbing in AA.

If I was in Sacramento, besides working on a plan to not be in Sacramento, I'd certainly buy tickets to see Ohtani and company.

Ehh. As long as I’ve been here I’ve wanted to see the Sacramento A’s become a reality. But not this way. That would be a real twist of the knife for my sports soul after all the :censored: I went through with that doomed Republic MLS bid. I’m not really that interested in going to MLB games anymore, but I think I’d still rather go the extra 100 miles west to see the Giants.

Also, housing that clown show for 3+ seasons is basically a guarantee that the RiverCats are toast once this is all said and done. Absolutely not worth it in any way.

The shark biting the stick is just so utterly stale to me now. The original shark looks like a hand puppet while the second shark is right out of “learn how to draw manga-style” books you find in the worst parts of a bookstore. They’re both terrible and overplayed.

I really wish the fin got promoted when the new set came out, if only to demonstrate the Sharks were truly committed to tearing down their outhouse of a franchise and refreshing everything.

I say this all as somebody who used to be a Sharks fan.

Yeah same here. I like the idea of the shark biting the stick logo more than the actual execution. The original was awesome for its time but looks really dated now. The current logo I’ve never liked. I saw it before it was released with @Cujo and @Puckguy14 and we were already calling it PikaShark. It just looks really goofy and not really like a shark. It looks square and kind of gives off a BTTFII hologram shark vibe. The updated logos they put out a few seasons ago were fine, but really generic and stale. Very strange that they crammed it into that logo set and even used it as a shoulder patch. It was painfully amateurish.

The fin roundels have always been great, and I have no idea why they ever went away from that logo. I’m so glad they brought that back and are featuring it more prominently now. I hadn’t really thought about just bumping it to the primary logo status, but yeah I could get behind that.

Just a funny little anecdote for all of the rest of y'all: both Fiddy and I had a cousin on those Super Bowl teams, one on each team. Of course, for one of us those blood ties ain't mean jack, but both of us ended up celebrating after it was over (or rather, once we knew it was over for good...after one of those cousins ran back a pick-six to ice it.)

Yeah Doug is a pretty distant relationship to me (dad’s cousin’s kid), and my dad had an ENORMOUS family. I think I’ve only ever been in the same room with him once, and it was when I was very young.

I actually have two extended family members that played in the NFL, and the other one is probably more well known (not well known like your cousin, though), but is an even further association. Peyton Hillis. He’s my late uncle’s (by marriage) nephew.

I don't know how you felt about this, but that game to me felt like Tampa Bay's Super Bowl. Once they won that (and a/ exercised the demons of both Philly phatigue and b/ the cold--which actually happened a week or two prior, at Chicago), I knew they were winning the whole thing. (Think Miracle on Lake Placid...as humongous a milestone victory as that was for the US Olymic Hockey team, it was still only the semifinal game.) That they went on to wreck Bill Callahan's Raiders as thoroughly as they did was just icing on the cake.

The actual Super Bowl was a bit weird for me, as my cousin was on that Raiders team, and I grew up going to Raiders games and a ton of people I knew were HUGE Raiders fans. I was the only one who was really happy in the room for that one. Oh well. It was still great.
