  1. Plenty of people. Probably not, especially not the CalgaryNEXT proposal. Cost being only one of the multiple reasons that proposal wasn't good. The last three new CFL stadiums to be built cost $278 million (Regina), $145.7 million (Hamilton) and $210 million (Winnipeg). But it will be interesting to see if and when the Flames go back to the city to see if they still include the Stamps in a proposal because the hockey arena will include three out of the four CSEC teams.
  2. No the Saddledome isn't falling apart but it is showing its age and lacks a lot of the ameneties of all these newer arenas, same with McMahon (so much concrete), so admiral is right in saying Calgary is due for a new arena/complex. But what the Flames want from the city isn't going to work. The admiral's also right about the concerts. Calgary gets skipped over for Edmonton all the time because of the Saddledome and its limitations. And if acts do come, it's often stripped down a bit and the acoustic aren't the greatest. (Keep in mind, I've never been to a concert at the Dome. This is just the common knowledge in Calgary). I will say I never found the Saddledome's bowls wonky though.
  3. I don't think Saskatoon could work either. I don't think it's big enough and the two professional teams already in the province get supported by the whole province. Everybody in Canada knows about Rider Nation for the CFL's Roughriders and the two year old NLL Rush have become a smash hit, but both leagues play a weekly (football) schedule with the Roughriders playing nine home games a season out of Regina and the Rush playing their nine out of Saskatoon. Both teams draw from out of their respective cities with season ticket holders across the province. Since the homes games are only once a week at most, people are willing to make the drive to "home" games. I don't know if Saskatoon itself would be able to fill 41 home games a year, much less games played on different days of the week. The current arena would also need renovations to make it up to NHL standards. Saskatoon has been approaching the idea of discussions on a new arena, but I don't know if NHL is on their minds.
  4. The Swift Current Indians of the WMBL (summer collegiate league in Alberta and Saskatchewan) are now the Swift Current 57's. The name comes from the 57 years they were known as the Indians. The change was made to drop Indians in order to "promote the team in a more current and sensitive manner."
  5. Huh I didn't know that was a thing. That's kind of a cool touch then. I did see the ladder part but was thrown off by the wheels on the top of the thing but it appears to be for rolling it like a wheelbarrow.
  6. The top right logo holding the three bats, what is he holding in his other arm?
  7. Is that not how you read in England, directly downwards? Like how Japan reads from right to left.
  8. In my stories, I usually clean up the quotes and I actively make an effort to not change what the person was trying to say. Mostly it's just taking out the filler words and fixing some grammar. (e.g. has to have and writing the word they meant to say if they flub it) The biggest change I'll ever make is when a person has a long quote with lots of "ands". I'll replace an "and" with a period and a new sentence if it's a changing thought and still makes sense.
  9. I don't know about you but I met a beautiful single girl and started making $600,000 every month, so I'm in favour of them.
  10. I can't seem to find the option to change my signature.
  11. Update: Lost in 2OT. Now BASS' Flin Flon Bombers are going to the finals.
  12. I guess I'm technically part of the sports media and now we're (do I get to say we're since I do colour?) about to go into double overtime facing elimination right now. Man it's intense.
  13. No, the midget teams were beating the womens team. And it's a paying professional league. The first of its kind in the sport. That's why people are talking about it,
  14. Come on now, it's not Bantam AAA. The Canadian National team, or at least the national program, has played Midget AAA and CIS teams in exhibition games, though to your point I do believe they did lose quite a few to both levels. People aren't talking about their local Bantam AAA teams because those are 14-15 kids playing after school. The NWHL is the only paying professional womens hockey league, so yeah people are talking about it.
  15. You can quote specific parts of someone's post by highlighting text in it and clicking the "quote this" bubble that pops up. I think it's kind of neat.
  16. But on the other hand, it's harder to see what the original person was referencing.
  17. Does it? And apparently you can't quote a quote anymore. This post here is quoting a See Red post which quoted a sportstar post, but you can't see the sportstar post in this post. I would like that fixed as another forum I'm somewhat on does that and it's hard to read comment threads.
  18. I don't like it. And it beeps at me whenever someone replies in the thread.
  19. The WMBL (summer collegiate league in Alberta and Saskatchewan) is adding two new teams, the Brooks Bombers and the Fort McMurray Giants.
  20. So this is from a guy on Reddit, take that as you will. Coach John Gruden?
  21. That's just wow. I don't even know what the CHL and the OHL will do. I don't think there's precedent for an entire team walking out.
  22. I'm a pretty sure I could write a storyboard for an SVU episode now, but I'm not sure about if there ever will be an episode about this though. Not that Dick Wolf hasn't done other ripped from the headlines before and higher profile ones before, but this one could be closer to home for them.
