  1. The Oil Kings unveiled a new shoulder patch back in August. I don't hate it, but I can't help but feel there's something "off" about it. Maybe it's because of the size and shape. Side note, the Oil Kings have created an identity issue for themselves with the black and green alternates. It's like they can't decide, especially now with a white version of the black/green jerseys, which team they are and they don't want to entirely commit to the black/green. Living in Edmonton for school, all the ads I've seen have been black and green and their internet presence is mostly black and green, but the red and blue still makes a lot of appearances.
  2. Here's Calgary's flag. It's hard to tell here on the white background of the of the site, but there's a strip of white above and below the red. It looks like it could have been a logo for the Calgary Cowboys WHA team.
  3. I think Edwards would sell the team in the case of them moving to Houston and who knows what would happen with the other teams. Though all four have dedicated fanbases here in Calgary, though will major overlap. Okay before was the wrong word and obviously the Saddledome is priority, but it terms of amenities and fan gameday experience, McMahon Stadium is in worse shape than the Saddledome, especially compared to the new ones in the league. And calling it minor league is kind of flippant. But yes, an arena is needed and people here are in favour of a new arena, just not of what’s been proposed. By and large, I think most in Calgary are on the City’s side and not the ownership’s.
  4. Another distant Houston candidate the could be Flames with their whole arena situation. There was this article from Eric Francis (someone who has been obviously pro-ownership throughout the arena discussions and many Flames fans have probably rightly called him a shill/don't like him) back in December where he feels the Flames will be in Houston within the next three years and I have heard from a guy who heard from a guy who apparently knows people in the ownership (take that as you will) that there's more to the Flames and Houston thing than the public knows (also take that as you will). That Francis article is not good and he's clearly on the side of the ownership, but there might be some inkling of truth to this. Another wrinkle is that the Flames ownership group, CSEC, also own the CFL's Stampeders, the NLL's Roughnecks and the WHL's Hitmen, the latter two share the Saddledome with the Flames and if you recall the CalgaryNEXT proposal that started this whole Flames arena saga, the plan also included a new stadium for the Stamps along with the arena for the Flames, Roughnecks and Hitmen. The Roughnecks and Hitmen are directly affected by this whole arena discussion with the Stampeders also along for the ride (and personally, I feel the Stamps need to get a new stadium before the Flames do), so a forgotten issue is how the ownership's and the NHL's posturing with the City of Calgary will impact the other three teams.
  5. Ehh. The stars look like they were placed from a different logo and the 20 has a weird sideways drop shadow. I'm assuming the one big star is for their Memorial Cup championship and the three smaller for their WHL championships. As per the 17-18 thread, for some reason the ICE (which I believe the team decided is supposed to be capitalized like REDBLACKS) decided not to throwback to their own history for their 20th anniversary, but instead to the Cranbook Junior A team they forced to fold when the Ice moved there from Edmonton.
  6. I think that's my problem with MiLB identities (and some MLB). Is it necessary to have what sometimes seems like a home hat, an away hat, a home alternate hat, an away alternate hat and a Sunday alternate hat, each with their own different logo? There should really only be a home/away hat and an alternate. And all four of Gwinnett's hats are the same colour, so it's especially unnecessary. If you're going to have so many hats, at least change up the colour on some of them.
  7. ^ Oh yes, the Quad City Flames. One of the members of the Flames AHL wasteland.
  8. Augusta GreenJackets new logo. I think the plaid hat is a nice touch, but I will miss the actual Masters green jacket from the old logo.
  9. The glasses are part of the PFT Commentor anonymous shtick. He always wears them.
  10. So on this morning’s PMT they sort of explained what happened with the ESPN show. PFT said ESPN came to Barstool eight months ago wanting a PMT show and the name was “Pardon My Take” based until a couple weeks ago. PFT didn’t like the name change but Big Cat understood why Barstool changed it. The two were angry with ESPN for mismanaging it and the people from ESPN who got the show cancelled but they were also angry at Barstool for putting them in the scenario. The two threw Barstool/Portnoy under the bus a bit but Big Cat is more of a “company man” than PFT. It remains to be seen how this effects the PMT and Barstool relationship because PFT (and Big Cat in a roundabout way) said PMT shouldn’t be lumped into the other things Barstool has done. They also said the first episode almost didn’t air because of why it was eventually cancelled. The show was also supposed to be 20 episodes.
  11. I just don't really know what ESPN expected with Barstool in the title. To add to Sodboy's point, the actual vehicle (Vanny Woodhead) the PMT vehicle was filmed in is PMT's. I'm sure they wrote if off as a Barstool business expense or something but the show was all Pardon My Take. IIRC, outside of PMT (Big Cat, PFT and their producer Hank), there was little to no Barstool in the actual production of the show. It was all Embassy Row and ESPN.
  12. Their first (and only) episode with Scott Van Pelt as the guest. ------- I will admit, I am a Pardon My Take fan and I listen to all the podcasts. It's a fun, smart show and has clout in the sports/sports media world but they're only going to get so far in the "mainstream media" with the Barstool name attached, even though it's not really the "Barstool brand" people think of when they hear Barstool. A lot of people at ESPN like PMT and I don't think the cancellation will have an effect on the podcast but I feel for the PMT guys. The way the statement reads it seems it was less about PMT and the first episode, it's more about Barstool (read: Portnoy, Dave). Calling the show Barstool Van Talk didn't help ESPN either, it should have just been something related to Pardon My Take but I don't know if that would have flown with Barstool.
  13. Plenty of people. Probably not, especially not the CalgaryNEXT proposal. Cost being only one of the multiple reasons that proposal wasn't good. The last three new CFL stadiums to be built cost $278 million (Regina), $145.7 million (Hamilton) and $210 million (Winnipeg). But it will be interesting to see if and when the Flames go back to the city to see if they still include the Stamps in a proposal because the hockey arena will include three out of the four CSEC teams.
  14. No the Saddledome isn't falling apart but it is showing its age and lacks a lot of the ameneties of all these newer arenas, same with McMahon (so much concrete), so admiral is right in saying Calgary is due for a new arena/complex. But what the Flames want from the city isn't going to work. The admiral's also right about the concerts. Calgary gets skipped over for Edmonton all the time because of the Saddledome and its limitations. And if acts do come, it's often stripped down a bit and the acoustic aren't the greatest. (Keep in mind, I've never been to a concert at the Dome. This is just the common knowledge in Calgary). I will say I never found the Saddledome's bowls wonky though.
  15. I don't think Saskatoon could work either. I don't think it's big enough and the two professional teams already in the province get supported by the whole province. Everybody in Canada knows about Rider Nation for the CFL's Roughriders and the two year old NLL Rush have become a smash hit, but both leagues play a weekly (football) schedule with the Roughriders playing nine home games a season out of Regina and the Rush playing their nine out of Saskatoon. Both teams draw from out of their respective cities with season ticket holders across the province. Since the homes games are only once a week at most, people are willing to make the drive to "home" games. I don't know if Saskatoon itself would be able to fill 41 home games a year, much less games played on different days of the week. The current arena would also need renovations to make it up to NHL standards. Saskatoon has been approaching the idea of discussions on a new arena, but I don't know if NHL is on their minds.
  16. The Swift Current Indians of the WMBL (summer collegiate league in Alberta and Saskatchewan) are now the Swift Current 57's. The name comes from the 57 years they were known as the Indians. The change was made to drop Indians in order to "promote the team in a more current and sensitive manner."
  17. Huh I didn't know that was a thing. That's kind of a cool touch then. I did see the ladder part but was thrown off by the wheels on the top of the thing but it appears to be for rolling it like a wheelbarrow.
  18. The top right logo holding the three bats, what is he holding in his other arm?
  19. Is that not how you read in England, directly downwards? Like how Japan reads from right to left.
  20. In my stories, I usually clean up the quotes and I actively make an effort to not change what the person was trying to say. Mostly it's just taking out the filler words and fixing some grammar. (e.g. has to have and writing the word they meant to say if they flub it) The biggest change I'll ever make is when a person has a long quote with lots of "ands". I'll replace an "and" with a period and a new sentence if it's a changing thought and still makes sense.
  21. I don't know about you but I met a beautiful single girl and started making $600,000 every month, so I'm in favour of them.
