  1. And this, boys and girls, is one of the reasons why the nation despises The Ohio State University. Technically, if the entire nation "despises" us, that would mean that the Buckeyes have no American fans. Judging by the fact that we pack every place we play, I'm guessing at least a few (million) people in the nation don't despise us. Sounds to me like you're just jealous that you couldn't get accepted to THE Ohio State University. Now that we've settled that, I think I'll put on my Ohio State class ring, stare at my diplomas, and be arrogant for a while. Seriously though, I'm not sure how I feel about that ring. Part of me thinks it's OK that they had it made, but a bigger part of me thinks that it's kind of stupid. In either case, it's ugly as .
  2. I like that one better than thier last one. I'm the exact opposite. This one is nice, but I like the first one better. Still, they did a great job on both rings.
  3. First off, I already have a World Series ring. Second, "fit of anger?" I wasn't angry at all. Annoyed maybe, but not angry. That aside, I think you misunderstood what I meant. When I said I always wanted a World Series ring, I meant that I wanted one with my name on it etc. As in I wished I would have made the big leagues and won one. My ring is as close as I'll ever get to that. The point I was trying to make was that my GF bought me the ring because she thought I would like it. She wanted me to have a World Series ring with my name on it. (God knows she's heard me talk about my failed baseball career more than anyone should have to.) I thought that was a pretty cool thing for her to do. That's what I meant when I said my ring "means something." Whether you meant to or not, it came across like you were trying to show off and belittle my ring by flaunting your "real" rings. Apologies for any misunderstanding. With regard to buying one like the ones you have, I appreciate the advice, but the money isn't the issue. If I want one I'll just buy one. I think I'd rather wait until the Packers deliver another Super Bowl so I can buy a shareholders ring - with my name on it. Anyway, that's another nice addition to your collection. Do you ever wear any of them? Also, of the rings you have, how many are actual players rings and how many are staff and salesman samples?
  4. Update: Turns out my wonderful GF was way ahead of me on this one. The last Christmas gift she gave me to open this year was a little black box and inside it was one 2011 Cardinals World Series ring. Yup, she's the best. All it takes is some doings and you can have a real one..see If by "doings" you mean dropping a couple K on a salesman's sample, I'd just rather not. My ring is "real." And I'd rather have my ring. My ring has my name on it and it was an extremely thoughtful gift from someone important to me. Your rings, while "real", are pretty meaningless. They all belonged to someone else before you ended up with them. Every day when I put on my ring, I'm reminded of how wonderful my GF is. I don't look at it and think "yup, won another auction" or whatever. Just to be clear, you don't have some sort of magical formula. Championship rings aren't hard to come by. They're actually pretty easy to get. It's just a matter of whether or not someone chooses to spend the money on them. You have a nice collection, but I'd just rather have my ring. It means something. I have one of those "mine" rings also.. No offense dude, but this isn't a contest. I get that you have a bunch of rings. Good for you and all but what does any of it have to do with my ring? Anyway, nice ring. I was hoping for one of those this year, but the 49ers kind of screwed it up last night. I should have bought one when they were still available but I screwed around and waited too long. Maybe next year.

  7. I'm seriously considering buying one of these. I'm not exactly a Cards fan, but I've always wanted a World Series ring and this is probably about as close as I'll ever get.
  8. I could not agree more. Apparently, clean and good looking equates to lazy, poor design in some circles around here. (see what I did there as I move on to my next reply? ) This would make for a very nice debate on a certain podcast we're both acquainted with. I happen to think that roundels are cool more often than they aren't.
  9. What entity purchases these and chooses the design (MLB or the AL/NL)? I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say that it's a gift from MLB (i.e. not the team). The conferences leagues are run by the same commish anyways. Based on how similar the rings are, that would be my guess too.
  10. If memory serves, the high stirrups look started in the late 60's. (Maybe mid 60's?) Jim Bouton talks about it in Ball Four as (I'm paraphrasing)"the latest uniform craze." He mentions how guys like Frank Robinson started "cutting" their stirrups to look more sleek or something. I remember as a kid playing little league, we all wanted to wear our stirrups "up high" like the big leaguers did but we could never get ours to look like theirs. We had no idea that they cut their stirrups to get that look.
  11. Well done. Misinformation is the only way to keep the tightly guarded POTD process a secret. Don't let Joshawaggie fool you Chawls. He's on the inside. He knows how it really works. Get that first ribbon and you'll get to be on the inside too. A rotating panel of previous winners, and the 26 members known as the "Majestic 12" make up the POTD committee. They are the only ones who really know how the process works. "The Inside"? Thanks for inviting me to the meetings. We haven't rotated to your turn to be on the committee yet. Your packet is in the mail. Burn after reading.

They are the only ones who really know how the process works. He claims he has received a "highly-coveted" POTD, but there is a lot of speculation that it's actually a "teeny-bopper" ribbon. Those don't really count. "Teeny-bopper" ribbons are hard to keep track of but when the committee comes across one, it is immediately retracted. To my knowledge, loooooooooooooogooooooodude doesn't fly his POTD ribbon so there's no way to know if his ribbon is legit or not. The investigation is ongoing.
  13. You sure about that? Baseball is pretty popular too by the way...
  14. I'd say it's the best since the Saints ring but the point remains. That's a nice looking ring. Glad to see they didn't go gaudy.
  15. Just saw these on twitter. Very nice I must say. Yeah I like it. Same here. That ring is a really nice example of "less is more."
  16. That's the equivalent of a "everyone gets a trophy for playing soccer" trophy. A ring for 11 wins? It's kind of pathetic.
  17. Yeah, quite a few of us did. There's a thread on it in Sports In General.
  18. Ah, got it. Good one. Obviously, I didn't follow the finals very closely. I thought it was a legitimate ring question.
  19. Doc had to sell his '83 championship ring. What a shame.
  20. Looks worse than Boston's record in the finals... Curious, do the refs of the SCF get one too? Don't quote me on this but I think officials get a special ring commemorating that they officiated the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup finals, World Series, etc. I'm pretty sure they get something.
