  1. I guess I'm not sure which one's the unpopular opinion, because I thought I was the only one that absolutely hates that "Twins" script.

I know I'm one of the few that misses the road pins.

I loathe that old Twins script also. So, so messy, and it still doesn't match their boring road script. However, while the road pinstripes were cool, the generic block script wasn't. I don't understand how the Twins still refuse to see the obvious solution: a Minnesota script in the same font as their awesome regular Twins script.

  2. Of course it's about money but Boise State still won't be in the Pac-12

    Nah, they'll be in the PAC-16. B)

But seriously, when the superconferences form, it will represent the old pretensions about academics, scheduling, tradition, etc. being fully replaced by an overt focus on money and ratings first. If it wasn't all about football money, there'd be no reason to have all this realignment, the mega TV deals, the bowl system that concentrates most of the money in a few select conferences, etc.

And yes, Nebraska was booted out of the AAU last year. Almost lost their status in 2000, even.

  3. So with this whole new championship deal looking more and more like a Pac 12/B10 vs. SEC/B12 affair, doesn't that basically render the rest of D-1 college football useless?

Pretty much. The Big Four conferences will probably just end up raiding the remnants of the ACC and the new Big East and that will be that. Thanks, BCS, for ruining college football.

  4. I'm not an NHL fan, but I've been following the Coyotes' bizarre situation. While I have no problem with them winning it all, it's impossible to look past how the residents of Glendale have been screwed over to prop up a (financially) failing franchise that they largely don't care about. That's all people are saying - winning in sports should never have to come at the expense of the city's wellbeing.

  5. When they both moved up, Idaho was the better program.

On the field head-to-head, they were. In every other capacity, BSU was better. Idaho's outdated facilities, shoestring budget, and tiny 16,000-seat stadium are not generally harbingers for success at the FBS level. This should have been obvious at the time, but the Idaho state government was full of UI grads who were desperate to keep up with Boise State, so they allowed it despite all the built-in disadvantages. Now, UI is in the position of either somehow pulling half a million dollars out of their ass to renovate the Kibbie Dome with little-to-no help from the state, or finally admitting defeat and moving down to FCS.

Meanwhile, BSU has been fortunate enough to rise to the FBS level at a time when their market underwent a major increase in population, creating a bigger market for the school's athletics programs, especially football. This has allowed them to raise money, upgrade the stadium and facilities numerous times, gain a distinct recruiting advantage over UI, and ultimately survive as a successful FBS program. They've also been fortunate enough to generally hire the right people and have plenty of success on the field of play. A couple bad bounces here and there and they could also be in the position of basically having to move down alongside Idaho.

  6. I gotta be honest, every time I see an Idaho home game on TV (mostly clips). It has the feel of watching an FCS game. Something about the Vandals seems like they don't belong at the highest division. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's the success and popularity of Boise State that makes them look minor in comparison.

Besides the aforementioned ugly dump of a stadium they play in, the real reason is because they don't belong at the highest division. They saw BSU moving up to FBS years ago and demanded that they be allowed to move up too, despite lacking the infrastructure or support to have a successful program at that level. Idaho would be right at home in the FCS, and I don't mean that as an insult.

  7. When it comes down to closing libraries and layingoff teachers in order to subsidize this failed team, people on both sides of the aisle know what's the right choice.

What's truly sad is that shutting down libraries and firing teachers in favor of keeping the freaking Phoenix Coyotes in a market that doesn't want them isn't considered radical, but refusing to spend a :censored:load of resources and time on unconstitutional wars abroad and overly-invasive policies at home is. This country has some messed-up priorities.

  8. I think you're all confusing actual conservatives with GOP neocons. The GOP party-liners are perfectly fine with spending beyond their constituents' means on things like a failing hockey team with no fans, just at a slower rate than the Democrats. Why? Because sadly, there's a substantial number of uneducated voters who will vote for anyone with an "R" next to their name. And slowing down the tax-and-spend, intrusive policies allows neocons to smear their opponents as "radical" while keeping just enough of the corrupt status quo to keep getting special interest and lobbyist money. Actual conservatives would have kicked this albatross of a franchise out of Phoenix a long time ago instead of continuing to waste money during a recession.
