Silver with the Carolina Blue is kinda what makes their brand so unique.

One could argue the Detroit Lions did it before the Panthers came into existence. Detroit's Honolulu blue is pretty close to the Panther's shade.

  2. It always bugs me during international sporting events when teams from places like China, Japan, Korea, Israel, etc has roman script on their uniforms. I can understand jerseys numbers for all teams being in Arabic numerals, but I don't like seeing the country and player names in English. Is it just me?

I would have loved seeing 日本 instead of "JAPAN" on their jerseys last night. Let them truly represent their home countries!

At least that logo has Testudo holding the flag. They haven't used a logo with Testudo since 2012, and the turtle shell helmets were back in 2011. A whole decade of nothing but flag imagery across all their sports. They may as well be the Maryland Marylanders at this point. They've been so focused on the state's unique flag that they've forgotten about the school mascot that is also incredibly unique.

By virtue of being from Maryland I've blindly supported their athletic programs my entire life because, homer. With that being said, Testudo is a lame mascot in every form. And this is coming from a guy the was a Ninja Turtles fan growing up. Give me state flags, banners and the letter M any time over the Terrapin.

SN: The turtle shell helmets were nothing special. Just made they look like they were wearing gray helmets.

I hope not. That *is* Maryland to me. The only change I'd hope to see is for the flag to cover the entire helmet. The back of it looks odd after they stopped painting MARYLAND across the back.

Did you only become aware of their football program in the 2010s? Because they've had other (IMO superior) helmets prior to that.

Short of Under Armour completely collapsing and getting out of uniforms entirely, I don't see that happening. As long as Kevin Plank still has a flag fetish, Maryland will plaster it all over.

The state flag branding isn't exactly a recent trend for UMD.

The use of the flag/banner on uniforms should definitely be toned down, but not completely scrapped. Like mentioned before the football team's uniforms are pretty tame from the neck down. The flag design needs to stop covering the entire helmet. It's never been a good look.

  5. OT: that pic of the Panthers almost uniforms has me wondering, when exactly did the shoe companies (Nike, Adidas and even Reebok at one point) invade the sports uniform market? And at what point did they become the elite uniform brands? I remember a time when Russell, Champion, Wilson and Rawlings were on the tags of most uniforms you saw from youth leagues up to the pros.

I think this illustrates a problem in both versions, which is that they can't figure out how to implement all three colors at once. 2020 was a navy and orange team; now they're an orange and navy team. Which is obviously a fine combination, but your logo is dang near entirely green.

I think at some point a decision was made for the 2020 Vipers to be the green team of the XFL instead of Seattle. Everything about the 2020 logo screamed this is a green team, then came the navy blue uniforms.

  7. Looks like things are back to normal on the MLS YouTube channel. The highlights from all of yesterday's games have been posted as of this morning. Even the LAFC/Portland match which was on Fox. In previous years highlights from nationally televised games were posted a couple days later.

A pro soccer tournament that has never happened previously and isn’t even notable enough to merit a Wikipedia entry? I just think we could be more selective about what counts as “news” there frankly.

Don't know what to tell you then. It meets my criteria 🤷🏾‍♂️

  9. As I've stated before I love Austin's colors for my own nostalgic reasons, but I honestly wasn't a fan of their first jerseys. Especially since they chose to make the back of the jersey, shorts and socks black. It was a black kit with a couple green stripes on the front for a team that's primary color is supposed to be green.

If I could rewrite history, I would have given Seattle's current jersey design to Austin in 2021. I just think it would look better in Austin's colors, swapping the greens and black in place of blue. A green dominant jersey with enough black in the design to please the cool crowd. Hell, the shorts and socks could have still been black and I think it would have been a better look for them than what we got in our timeline. Just my two pennies though.

Even though I like seeing Austin wear more green than black now, the front design on the new jerseys was a huge miss. Fingers crossed they decided to move on from stripes in 2025.

If green verde is Austin FC's thing, they join the pack of other clubs that have found their one-color- plus-black colorway:

Why not use DC United here? Their nickname is literally the black and red

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.  If the sixes format remains limited to the PLL championship series and possibly  international lacrosse I would be okay with that. As someone that enjoys good defensive play in sports I want traditional 10 vs 10 field lacrosse to remain as is (stated this in previous post).
