  1. One could argue they did that. Their current identity is straight out of the "in" design trends of the 2000s. Piping everywhere. A custom number font that might as well be block but isn't quite block. Tapered multi-coloured pants stripes. A new wordmark that looks exactly like every other wordmark from that era. The Cardinals went to their current identity in 2005 and it's a VERY modern identity by 2005 standards. And it's never really fit them. You're right. This is a team that, despite not having much to celebrate, feels like they should have a uniform that veers toward simple and classy. They're the oldest team in the NFL and even with the less than glamorous history they have they should look it. There are teams in the league that can experiment and push boundaries. The team established in 1898 shouldn't be one of them.
  2. Kupp was the right choice. He was basically their only option and he stepped up big when he had to, and caught the game winning TD twice. Also don't make me rename this thread "Adults Arguing about Matthew Stafford."
  3. I mean sure, if that final drive hadn't happened or gone wrong then we're singing a different tune but I mean...what happened happened. What's the point of trying to minimize a win like that?
  4. I swear every time a team or player wins you don't like it's some kind of conspiracy on the league or refs' part.
  5. The Rams finally have a Super Bowl without St. Louis stink on it!
  6. I look forward to ASU gymnastics outdrawing the Coyotes on a regular basis.
  7. Remember when Gary Bettman threatened to move the new Jets on day one, because the then-MTS Centre's 15,000 seat capacity was on the small side?
  8. The Washington Commanders deep-6'd that pretty quickly.
  9. Yeesh. It means that one of the most tired tropes here is "guy who likes something most people don't and accuses everyone else of being wrong or group think." Like what you like but bashing the majority for not liking what you like is silly.
  10. Not really. It might be tricky if they had a Cup in the purple and gold, a Cup in the black and purple, and a Cup in the silver and black. Then what do you do? But not only are all the Kings' Cups in black and silver, but their most well known non-Cup memories- the Gretzky years- happened in black and silver. The Kings of the purple and gold and purple and black days were bottom feeders with not much to show for themselves, aside from wasting Rob Blake's career and an admittedly pretty sweet pad/mask setup by Felix Potvin. I REALLY like the RR with the Gretzky-era uniforms in the purple and gold colours. If the Kings went with that as their identity I'd be hard pressed to complain. But if you're looking at which Kings identities and colours are associated with the franchise's high points? It's the black and silver and nothing else. The Broncos' uniforms were dated ten years ago. Fan support for the old look in some form is strong. Yet they keep with their identity. I have to think three Super Bowl wins in four appearances is why. It may be dated late 90s/early 2000s, but damnit it's their winning look. And they see value in keeping it. I can't say that's wrong.
  11. And a lot of people don't like that they did! The reason I'm hesitant to mess with a championship-winning look is two-fold. One, you should look like your best selves. Two, it's important to connect younger fans to the glory days. The team playing today dressed as the same team that won the titles in old pictures and video will help fans not around for those championships connect the team they're watching to the teams of the past.
  12. Well it is terrible 99.9% of them time. Cool if you think that, but you may wanna own being the minority opinion on that one.
  13. A teal base also keeps the nautical theme intact.
  14. RR wish lists? Sure why not... Ducks- Jade version of their inaugural set. Coyotes- Katchina/brick and white mashup with the howling coyote logo. Bruins- Gold version of the 48-49 blacks. Sabres- Red version of the goathead sweaters. Flames- Gold version of the pedestal sweaters. Hurricanes- Black version of the inaugural set. Blackhawks- Red version of the 35-37 set. Avalanche- Unused Nordiques wolf set in Avs colours. Why the hell not? Blue Jackets- 03-07 alternate with black trim swapped out for neon green. Stars- Inaugural Dallas black jersey with green and black swapped. Red Wings- Red version of the 26-27 Cougars sweaters. Oilers- 01-07 robosperm alternates in either navy/copper or royal blue/orange. Panthers- A red version of the last RR set would work great. Kings- Black and silver versions of the late 90s look. Wild- Green version of the 03-07 alternate. Canadiens- Green version of the 10-11 throwbacks. Predators- Go with those crazy 01-07 mustard alternates but in the present-day athletic gold. Devils- A black version of the Cup winning set. Islanders- Teal fisherman. Rangers- Red version of the 78-87 "NEW YORK" road. Senators- Black version of the red 3D Senator sweater. Flyers- The 97-07 black alternates with orange sleeves. Penguins- A white version of the 97-02 gradient/pinstripe sweater. Blues- The 95-98 trumpet set in the present day double blue and gold colours. Sharks- Black version of the inaugural set. Kraken- Seattle Metropolitans barberpole sweater in Kraken colours. Lightning- Black version of the 96-99 "storm" alternate. Maple Leafs- White version of the 67-70 blue sweater with the modern logo. Canucks- Blue, white, and green Flying V. Golden Knights- This is tough...perhaps some version of the old Las Vegas Wranglers ECHL uniforms in Knights colours? Capitals- The inaugural look in slate blue, black, and bronze. Jets- A red version of the 90-96 set.
  15. For the Texans race is immaterial. It's how willing you are to toe Megachurch Rasputin's (thanks to @the admiral for that one) "praise Jesus" line. I have no idea what Lovie Smith's religious beliefs are. Smart money is he's at least nominally Christian. And probably willing to play along with Easterby. That's all it takes.
  16. Narrator: It wasn't. It's amazing how winning tends to make being cocky tolerable. Mayfield gets slammed because for all the swag his team sucks. Burrow made it to the Super Bowl. Come on man. This isn't hard.
  17. The amazing thing is that there's not one part of this I like. The W- it's fine on its own but this is a ninety-year old franchise. You look at the older teams with monogram logos and they all use something that's far more traditional than this very modern typeface. The helmets. The fact that's there's two is an unforgivable sin and ushers in the great degradation of NFL identities. The black one is total garbage. The burgundy one is ruined by the satin finish and the single stripe that matches nothing else. Burgundy jersey- Probably the best jersey, but ruined for me by the giant COMMANDERS wordmark. White jersey- Dot matrix gradient? The hell? The team and Nike describe it as forward thinking. In what way is dot matrix forward thinking in 2022? Black jersey- trash. Just...trash. They're going to look awful in black head to toe. Pants- monochrome always sucks, and the fact that these don't have stripes makes them worse. What's even more egregious is that the team openly admitted to replacing gold on the whites with black to justify a black alternate. That's the most blatant case of BFBS as I've ever heard.
  18. I doubt any of these unis will double dip. The appeal of one-and-done alternates from the teams' perspectives is a new design every go-around. See the ongoing cluster in the NBA. So I'm not sure the Wild can, or even want to, claim "dibs." It might actually behoove the league to increase sales by letting Dallas have a go at the North Stars while letting the Wild draw from another point in their history. More choices for everyone to keep pumping these things out bi-yearly. I'm not seeing anyone clammering for the Mooterus to return. Like the Ducks and Coyotes had ugly 90s sweaters they brought back because they became kitschy and popular. Has that same historical reassessment happened with the Mooterus? I haven't seen it. It's just bad.
  19. Tossed this together after work. I donno. I like it.
  20. Calgary and the Rangers brought back logos people generally liked though. Everyone hated the Mooterus at the time and it hasn't even gotten any retro kitsch charm like the Islanders' fisherman. Honestly given the sheer amount of unlikeability the Mooterus got? It's best to pretend it never existed.
  21. Someone somewhere else remarked that they look like unis ASU would bust out for a Tuesday night game. That tracks.
  22. The roundel logo is so desperately trying to be the Ravens' Maryland state flag shield. It had no hope of surpassing it, but the decision to omit the actual DC flag from it is a letdown. The ring with "Washington Football" and the years they won a championship also adds way too much and makes it overly cluttered. The dates are wrong for the SB era, but that could have been avoided if they'd just not done it. Working in stuff to represent the number of times you've won a title is always bad. Best case scenario you win another and have to change the logo. Worst case scenario you don't and your ever-increasing drought is front and centre on the uniforms. The one nice thing I'll say about this rebrand is that the name "Commanders" is fine. It's not the best, but I'll take it over something dumb like "DCFC" or staying "Washington Football Team." Shame all the logos and uniforms suck.
