  1. The Montreal Canadiens are giving away 1 jersey for free with an ad on it. Poor Habs account runner had to post a picture of an ad-free jersey, so that they don't get blasted in the comments. Like I said, they're feeling the heat. Viewers will still watch no matter what. But it gives me hope that sales will tank and the NHL will reconsider turning teams into Euro League hockey, for the sake of merch dept. employees. We shall see. Nascar toy cars have ads on them. Corporations see sports merch no differently.
  2. Quebec City not having a team is leaving money on the table. It's become embarrassing the lengths that the league is going to. This is suppsed to be an NHL franchise. Slav is going to have a double-sized audience watching him develop in Laval.
  3. Amazing how Quebec City still loves their team, even after they've been gone for decades.
  4. It's nice that the number 1 hockey franchise in Arizona is sharing their building with the Coyotes. The Mullett Arena font, the seats, the guardrails, and everything are all in Sun Devils maroon and yellow colors. From the several Google pictures on the new facility, that's gonna be the building's look.
  5. Not buy merch with ads on it is the most likely.
  6. Sometimes I asked myself does it bother them, when they do things that no one agrees with? I thought it didn't. But then I remember that Montreal pre-planned announcing fan favorite Nick Suzuki's captaincy, immediately after the RBC announcement. They knew it was coming. Montreal may be the most vocal and passionate fanbase in the world about the sports teams and wrestling promotions that are the most popular here. That said, it may not bother the managers at the top. But I bet the Habs Twitter account runner and many media people probably had a hard time, on that day. It would have been worse without the Suzuki announcement. If they tried to tone it down, it's because they were feeling the heat. The team already makes so much cash. Then I wonder is it really worth upsetting litterally everybody?
  7. It's about time, tbh. They are the GOLDEN Knights, after all. It made no sense that their minor league affiliate called the Silver Knights had a silver jersey, but the big club called the Golden Knights also used to have a silver jersey, or at the very least a graphite color closer to silver than gold. They finally fixed that issue.
  8. RBC don't care about anything in regards to sports. They're not paying the Montreal Canadiens franchise a few extra dollars to have a small ambiguous ad that's barely visible on the jersey. They're here to go KHL on the Big 4.
  9. Too bad he never got to raise Lord Stanley. Still he had a great career and was one of the best defenceman that I've seen play to ever wear a Habs jersey.
  10. It's going to take a little while to get used of the black numbers. But it's a good choice of font.
  11. Yeah, if the ratings tank, that could send a message too.

  13. This is what the current logo would look like with matching outlines.
  14. Don't know if it was brought up yet or not... Big 4 pro sports jerseys and apparel are major sellers, specifically because they have designs that look nice and stand out, specifically to make large merch sales and lots of cash. I don't believe MLS make as many jersey sales as the NHL, MLB, NFL, or NBA. Soccer needs the sponsorship money because their niche audience isn't as large. Now I see RBC going out of their way to sell Habs jerseys to fans with ads on them, by using the sick kids charity tactic. Companies clearly want to turn the Sainte Flanelle into their own personalized guinea pigs for corporate advertising. Chances are RBC doesn't care about hockey or watch Habs games. Perhaps if jersey sales with ads plummet, they'll put a stop to their littering on professional sports. If money talks and fans are that revolted, fans need to speak with their wallet.
  15. I don't think this would be well received, if the Yankees did this, in 5 years from now...
  16. Very good point. Manufacturers want to sell merchandise, which is why their label on the piece of merch doesn't take away from the visual aesthetics. Corporations want to make money by turning soccer players and racecars into walking billboards and billboards on wheels.
  17. The tricky thing is that even is Nike had no hand in producing these jerseys whatsoever, the swoosh may come off as a manufacturing tag, even if it isn't. If the mismatching crest that's still loaded with orange was fixed, it would be a lot better. The crest should match the shoulder patches that contain thick black outlines with a thin teal trim. Secondary logos are totally devoid of orange.
  18. The Nike swoosh is small symbol all in one color that I can compare to vintage hockey jerseys that had the CCM manufacturing brand stamp on the uniform. --- RBC slapped a large light blue and yellow patch from an outside company onto a red, royal blue, and white jersey. The Yankees are still monotone. The Habs now have 5 colors.
  19. They knew Montreal fan outrage was incomming. Had they unveiled jersey ads on a regular day when nothing was going on, it would have got hectic on social media.
  20. I'm glad it's not KHL level of cringe (yet). But I'm still in agreement with you that it's a needless addition and a big downgrade, compared to ad-free jerseys. On the day Nick Suzuki was named team Captain to univeral acclaim, they also received the complete opposite reaction when unveiling their new jersey ads sponsor. I could tell that they're feeling the heat of the negative comments because they have to bring up the CHC Kids Foundation, to justify jersey ads. Sponsors have been helpful before, even pre-ads. The youth aid organization has been up and running for a while. The ads only bring the uniforms down. It's a disgrace how it sticks out more than the CH logo itself, the same logo that was worn by legends like Jacques Plante, Guy Lafleur, Maurice Richard, Saku Koivu, etc. Imagine the Yankees with a big ugly red Papa John's patch slapped on the front of the most sacred baseball uniform of all-time.
  21. I'll add to this, to further elaborate why I think ads on uniforms is a croc of that only benefits the ones that need it the least. Major profitable corporations who are high priority sponsors will always have first dibs for ad space on the players in the spots that are the most visible. The companies who make less money, many of which who were hit hard by the pandemic, will have to settle for their same tiny little space on the arena boards. And then when other big companies see what's happening, they're going to want in as well. So, chances are it will start with one small ad, and then the NHL may turn into the Euro League. It feels like these execs have a juvenile mentality, wanting to show off that they make more billions than all the other billionaires.
