The Rite of Spring: 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

If the Oilers get swept, the one positive is that they could come back stronger next year without the neon jerseys, if they choose. They should just wear their regular home jerseys because the entire crowd is a massive sea of orange. -

A 30 year no-move clause for a team that got kicked out of their building and that always struggles financially. What could possibly go wrong? -
It's better. But it's not that great because they just slapped some quick graffiti patterns onto the NFT shaped hexagon. This looks like a last-minute re-do with some more standard Street Fighter colors. The next one will probably be better, if they heard fan feedback. They'll have more time to fix up something nice from scratch. Maybe in the 90s some sports teams moved away from traditional looks in favor of something "revolutionary", at the time, and made a few bucks for several years. But nowadays, unless there's an absolutely strong and convincing reason for making a 360 to the logo, these kinds of changes don't get well received.

3 quick goals less than 10 minutes into the 2nd period. Maybe a huge comeback, but it's not looking good. -

Rangers lead 6-2 in the 3rd. Chants of "Igor's Better" in MSG. -

Mike Smith is finished. Assuming they want to win this series, who will the new starter be for Edmonton? I checked Wikipedia. I'm not familiar with any of these names, but the team somehow has 3 backups listed on their current roster: Mikko Koskinen, Stuart Skinner, Olivier Rodrigue. -
Not bad at all. I think "Depuis 1993" (which is french for Est. 1993) would have better than just the year by itself.

Just the shield on its own, minus the circle background, could be used as a secondary logo.
-
Sacre bleu, that is a beautiful logo! I believe there's no more "Foot". CF Montréal now stands for "Club de Football Montréal", according to reports on a Saputo conference that I didn't hear. It's fine because all their main branding is branded as CF for short, in most if not all scripts. That's how they brand soccer, when there's 2 types of football.

The Leafs fell short and blew another lead. Maybe by definition it's technically not a choke. But from an emotional standpoint, it's the Leafs, it's the first round, and they had a chance to end it but they didn't, opponent completes the comeback and wins. Their repeated history of failed attempts is probably why the word "choke" trended so much, during round 1. -

The Oilers can, if Mike Smith doesn't blow the series for his team. He's a former All-Star goalie. He needs to play his best game. If we get Edmonton vs Tampa in the final, the Oilers may have a much harder time tying the game over and over again, after repeated blunders. Vasy is a far superior goalie. Toronto was leading the series 3-2. I consider their loss a choke. -

Glad the Oilers escaped with the win. But that was a bad goal. -

The TV camera on Sportsnet didn't show the puck bounce off the net. But then, we got a view of some blurry camera. I don't know why it took so long for them to figure out they had that spare camera the whole time. -

At least 2 posts, 2 TB overturned goals, and they still can't get on the board. -

They were the correct calls, though. Refs only doing their job lol. -
The Oilers should have went with the orange jerseys because it would match the Sea of Orange inside and out of Rogers Place.

Who's starts in net for Edmonton for Game 3? Tonight, Mike Smith made up for his earlier bad performances. But if he starts slumping again, it could cost Edmonton the series, even though we've been getting McMagic On Ice, every game. -

The Panthers are playing against the 2x defending Cup Champions, who are playing their best game right now. They have a huge mountain to climb, just to have a shot at making it to round 3. They'll need to play much better that that, to take down the Tampa Bay Lightning. -

The Edmonton Oilers, currently, have one of the best assembled rosters in the world. But they also have some of the worst goaltending. -

Exactly. I know it's ASU's property. A pro team should be able to afford their own property. If this was a temporary arrangement, I get that things happen. The Expos went through this, when they had stadium issues. The problem is that there's no clear future, when it comes to the Coyotes surviving on their own. If their survival depends on a minor league team being nice enough to loan them their high school-sized rink of 5000 seats, maybe....just...maybe it's not a good fit for the NHL. -

The NBA & NHL are both major league. I've never seen a minor league team boss around an NHL team and tell them what to do. -

Also, apparently the Sun Devils have priority over scheduling. They have final say. After they set their own NCAA schedule, they'll give whatever remaining dates to the Coyotes, who will have to accept.
